I am single. I live in Canada so also checked online for nearest Canadian city price average for this year, It shows $90.00 weekly Canadian per. person, it only includes basics, no snacks like cookies, granola bars or healthy snacks etc. based on that people buy only basic healthy food. Where I live exchange rate is about 30% so would be $117.00 U.S. per person. Most weeks I spend $50.00- $60.00 Canadian because I always have food on hand and some items I have a few months supply & also get some food donated to me weekly, I do have a choice on most so only take what is useful for me, I sometimes re-donate some food to other friends in need. I also buy Gatorade low sugar as my Dr. ordered it for electrolytes during exercise, it is 50 calories per. 16 oz. versus regular is 150 calories, I also have to buy water at about $2.50 for 12, 16 oz. bottles because my water has sulfur in it. This is included in my $50.00- $60.00 bill. I can boil water for cooking & tea, coffee. Living alone no problem with choices.

I have pleurisy, 2 types of anemia, macrocytic anemia, Iron deficiency anemia, from blood transfusions with wrong antibodies, causes blood to replace daily instead of 100 days, chronic pneumonia, pleurisy, chronic kidney disease, a partially collapsed lung, low blood pressure & blood clots in both lungs for 3 years. Now formed scar tissue.I am 56 years old. I had cervical cancer 6 years ago, no signs last 4 years as well. I have new blood clots now,2019.I am on P.S.T. time zone.

LUANN thanks. Since hubby and I are older with no kids at home we tend to spend a little more for organic, etc.

I'm fine if how much I spend on groceries is less than a trip to the doctor's! :D

Good article! I'll add that to keep from wasting ingredients, you can use a reverse search engine like Supercook.com, or search on "(diet) (leftover ingredient) recipe", where (diet) is the diet you're on, and (leftover ingredient) are any leftover ingredients from your last recipe. eg. "low carb avacado recipe"

I do not consider paper towels and laundry soap to be food items. I know of no one eating them, do you?? :)
If you click through the links and read the reports, you will see that household items are not included.

Interesting. I'm at the high end for my age and gender, but I do buy lots of organics so I guess that makes sense.

I’ve often wondered....do those costs include items like paper towels and laundry soap? That would make a big difference in my case.

Niteman3D you find the most interesting articles. Thanks.

Very interesting. My budgeting goal hits in the middle of what is typical for my age and gender. Of course, now I just need to work on being better with my budget...lol. I am actually already using a lot of the best practices suggested to minimize waste and save money.
