emoticon Me too! I work in the mining industry, 12 to 14 hour days. And I'm going to school. It is very hard. And I'm old. I travel for work all year round. I live in my RV when I can or motel rooms. I have limited space, and cooking can be a nightmare. But I still plan. If I don't I'll die an old fat woman. I put some very high fiber, high protein veggies in my crock pot for the week. It can't get any easier than that. You can get a terrific workout in as little as 30 minutes even less. I use my dumbells while I'm at work and while I do homework. NO ONE IS GOING TO MAKE TIME FOR YOU. YOU HAVE TO MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF. Come on get with it. You seem so young to have a defeated attitude. Don't give in. Work hard. Try hard. Be healthy. It's not written anywhere that you can't go to school, work, and be healthy all at the same time.

I have a hard time finding time to sit down and plan everything I'm going to eat. I go to school full time, and I work full time. If I'm not at work or school, then I'm probably doing homework. Since I do not usually plan my meals, I end up eating foods that are high in fat. It is also hard to find time to exercise. I am currently in a weight training class at school, but that will be over soon, and I have no idea when I'll ever find time to do anything like cardio or weights. There just isn't enough time in the day!

emoticon I don't get around cravings. I go through them. I know they are coming and I face them head on. PLANING. Planing I tell you. I take my lunch with me everyday. In there I pack my snacks I planed. Maybe sometimes they are chocholate. But they fit into my daily plan. Sooo, no guilt. Usually I stick to apples and bananas. If that's all I bring with me that's all I can eat. Life is good with just a little planing. If you don't plan you won't see success coming let alone when it gets here.

How to get around the cravings? In my case, it is fairly simple! I am basically lazy! I start craving something, check out the refrigerator, check out the cupboards, then tell myself, "If you eat that, you're going to have to log back in, change your Nutrition tracker and probably have to take something off from what you wanted to eat for dinner or an after dinner snack." It works for me - don't know if it will work for others. I have dial-up still and by the time the silly computer has loaded SP, the craving has passed!

You know, the whole plan it-then eat it idea is so simple!! I can't believe that never came to my mind. My only problem is I am an impulse eater...how do you get around the cravings?

Donna -

I really like your idea of going to the meal planner before checking emails and postings. I found that I would run out of time to do that ... I will switch things around tomorrow and see how it goes.

Have a wonderful day. Mk

Good Morning!
The first thing I do before I look at the boards, read my other emails etc. is go to my Menu/Nutrition and plan my days meals. I love it that way! I can add and subtract while planning rather than just add AFTER it's gone into my mouth! I then write it in my journal and follow it carefully. I'm not losing much weight doing this, but the inches are coming off and I'm feeling much better.

I'd love to see some of the Asian recipes. Rice is allowed on the SP Menu and I think you can incorporate your meals with some of the things SP allows. It is time consuming, but you can "Add" the other things and watch your calorie intake. My problem when I started was too much fat in my diet!

Have a good day everyone! Where I am in Nevada, we just got the edge of the storm so I only had to shovel about 2 inches off my walks first thing this a.m. Brisk and a pretty good workout! Now the skies are that wonderful Nevada Blue, the sun is shining and everything is so pretty and white! It's cold - but we are in North Eastern Nevada and that is normal!

Good morning everyone! It's going to be a great week. Let's all remember to drink plenty of water. Plan what we are going to eat for tomorrow. It helps. I can't wait to get off work and go for my walk with my doggie love. We got 12" of snow yesterday here in Nevada. Very refreshing.

Happy Monday everyone! I hope it's as sunny where you are as here in VT. The sunshine sure has a way of changing your outlook.

I brought a healthy breakfast and lunch with me today. I also brought a ff yogurt & blueberries with me incase I needed a snack. Much to my own surprise I even brought my sneaks to take a walk at lunchtime.

Have a healthy and happy day everyone!!!!

Good Morning Everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend!

Have really enjoyed chatting with all of you! What wonderful support...thank you all of you!

Well I have set my mini goals for this week...to keep up with the ones set last week, and have added tracking my food (which I tend to slack off on or think it takes too much time sometimes), and to reach or not exceed my caloric intake. I seem to fall either way under it, or go over the top on it. I'm sure tracking my food will be a big help in changing that and making better choices.

Hope you all have a wonderful week. Another week closer to Spring and getting outdoors again! Can not wait!

Hello, I am new in this site just 2-3 days ago. I am aiming to lost 20 lbs by summer, and what motivates me most is that my husband told me that I have no curves anymore, imagine he told it to me last valentines dayemoticon after giving me a sexy lingerie as a gift. Until now I am not wearing it and took a picture of it and post it on the fridge. The problem I had is I had no time to cook, if I will it should be an easy to prepare food I got 5 kids and I am now preparing for a licensure exam, so my life was so stressful and sedentary that makes me eat a lot. Secondly we are asians and my kids and husband are used to eat asian food, asians mostly eat rice, even in breakfast and sometimes snack time. My concern is does it mean that I had to prepare separate food for them and for me, and to buy separate food for them and for me, and also most of the recipes that I know are asian recipes.I need a lot of motivation and hoping shares a lot of recipes too.emoticon

Good Morning, everyone!

Congratulations on losing the 46 pounds this past year, Ava! I will be happy to be your Buddy and help if I can. I think all of us slip at one time or another. Sometimes we just hit a plauteau and the fun of seeing the pounds drop off is gone. This will pass! At least, I'm hoping it will pass! My turtle has been hung up coming off that mountain for three weeks now!

Winter time is hard for me. I'm bored inside and spend every waking hour thinking about what I want to cook/what I want to eat.

Hi Nanny...and welcome! Wtg on your success to this point! That's been a big achievement. The last leg of the trip is always the longest and sometimes the hardest, isn't it?

Have you recalculated your caloric and exercise needs since you lost the first part of your weight? You may need to reset your body to start losing again.

If you'd like to buddy...plz feel free to e-mail me! Everyone that has responded to my first request here for buddies have been so nice and supportive! I would be happy to buddy with you as well!

Hi Mk

First, don't beat yourself up! Did you do anything positive this weekend? Exercise, track your food?

When I slip, I get back on this site and start going through the sparkspoint list...filling everything in, reading everything, start to track again if I've quit or missed...it really helps to me refocus myself.

How about 15 minutes of quiet meditation...kind of a personal pep talk? Think about your goals...choose one small one and work on that for the day...then give yourself a hug for doing it!

And the last thing I can think of....talk to all of us! We're all in the same place!

Here's to a successful week for you! emoticon

Shannon, I empathize with you! I have two granddaughters going through the same thing. Slim active girls all through high school, but they really "blossomed" in college. I wish they had time to join SP because it would help them! Like you, they have both gained at least 30 pounds and both are short, so it really shows! Both work full time, are taking a full load at the local college, and live on their own. I think the problem is they grab whatever is fast and run! The hectic lifestyle you are going through with classes, homework etc. makes it very difficult to maintain proper nutrition. I wish you the best!

Fallshiker, I'm glad I'm not alone with the Cabin Fever! I was raised in Colorado and now live in Nevada, so am used to the cold. DH and I took early retirement when he had a heart attack, and that's when my weight started coming back! Last year, I had redecorating projects in the house that kept me fairly happy, but this year all I want to do is cook and eat!

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Hi Ni

I'm an emotional eater too...it's either feast or famine for me. When I'm doing ok I have a hard time reaching my calorie point. Then there are those days...
Can be so frustrating. I'm trying to find other ways to deal with the emotions now though...and instead of grabbing food, I try to grab a bottle of water! Someone sent me an interesting fact sheet about our need for water this week. Said something like 90% of what we think is hunger is actually our body needing more water! Interesting!

Good luck, and welcome to our little group!

Nice to meet you...I'd be happy to buddy with you!
Sounds like you are on the right track catching the gain early! Schroeder on this board is also in college, and looking for buddies.

Does your campus have a health facility availabe to you? Exercise is a good stress reliever too! My son discovered his had a climbing wall...it wasn't long before he was going several times a week.

Granny I soo agree with the winter weather issue! I always lived in the South until we moved to the Midwest 10 yrs ago...weight has climbed ever since! It hadn't occurred to me how much a factor this may have been until we took a trip back to VA this month, and we were reminded of the weather difference this time of year! We had left -8 to go to nearly 50 degrees!

I have a terrible case of Spring fever this week...Cabin fever too! At least we know it's not going to last much longer now!

Hello all! My name is Shannon, and I am desperately trying to lose weight. I am a junior in college, and my metabolism has slowed down; i'm just discovering that I cannot eat like I used to. It's been three years since I've graduated high school, and I've gained 30 pounds since then. I've realized that I need to do something now, or it will be too late. I'm looking for some diet buddies to help keep me motivated!

Thank you! I think the key word is "moving" as in I need to start exercising more! I have a rough time doing exercise just for the sake of exercise! I do fine in the summer when I can be digging out new flower beds, working in the old ones, trimming trees, bushes, mowing lawns etc. but just cannot get myself off the couch when it snows! DH has kindly offered to let me shovel all the walks, but I tell him he needs the exercise too!

Thanks for the suggestions...I'll try those. Had no problem reaching my calorie goal yesterday...had pizza with my son last night, tho we were good and got thin crust veggie, and ate a nice salad with it! I've been under every other day this week, so not going to stress over last night...back on track today. Have three times the exercise time scheduled for the week already...that's a first for me, and a big step! Yaayyy!

I follow Weight Watchers for my eating plan and struggle DAILY to eat all that I am supposed to. (Unless it's abad day and I resort to emotionally eating).

Some of the suggestions that have been given to me are...if you drink skim milk switch to 1% or 1% to 2%. Instead of fat free yogurt switch to light. Same goes for cottage cheese - breads (whole wheat is best). I will also add in an extra piece of fruit in between meals. Hope this helps....

Hello

Did prety good yesterday...didn't get in the exercise I wanted...phone rang before I got to it and whole day sort of went off course!

I did well with my nutrition, but I didn't reach my calorie goal. I feel like I'm eating enough. Wasn't hungry...not sure how to get those extra calories in. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone -

Totally fell off the wagon yesterday and woke up with a food hangover!!! So far I have already had 4 glasses of water and a healthy breakfast so I'm trying to let go of yesterday and focus on today.

Have a good day everyone!! Mk

I looked in the mirror today and i love my body, the way it looks now. I am working harder now. I am going to go workout today! i did sunday, monday, and today, so i am doin pretty good.

Hi Bobbie!

Ohhh me and chocolate...don't even want to go there! First thing I reach for when I emotional eat!

I have actually started to exchange chocolate with Yoplait Whips Yogurt. They have 3 pretty good chocolate flavors---and a whole lot less fat and calories!

Wishing you all a good day! emoticon

Hey there -

Sounds like we are in the same boat! I too am looking for a great group to provide and receive support. I started out very determined last October and then life took over and as usual I put myself on the back shelf. Then something awful happened....the shelf broke!

So...here I am again. I logged on tonight and plan to start journaling and exercising tomorrow.

i can so relate! I have been doin so great, but now that i have started this new workout...i just feel exhausted and i know a lot of it is from stress; i am goin to school and all. I have lost all motivation to workout..to do anything actually. I don't even want to study anymore. I really want a vacation! Anyway, i really need a weight loss buddy right now...if ur willing to b my partner...please let me know!!

Hello I started Sparkpeople a few months ago...started out strong and then lost my way...let myself get off track with everyday life events.

I'm back and just as determined as ever..don't want to let myself get way-layed again. Would really love to meet and share with others on the same journey! Think this will take a lot of support!
