I actually went to physical therapy for my knee and a lot of exercise revolved around keeping a strength leg (knee not bent) and bending at the thigh.

One example is they had me lay on the floor, keep the leg with the bad knee straight, attach an ankle weight, raise my leg off the floor 6 inches or so, hold it, and then lower back down.

Doing 20 of those were tough.

Walk, chair exercises, strength training, and I find stairs help with my knee pain.

I'm in therapy for my knees. From a sitting position, bend your body forward, knees in line with shoulders and feet it isn't so stressful on the knees.
Hope you are better soon!

Definitely LISTEN to your doctor. Moreover, even if you weren't told to rest, any exercises we suggest could cause you more harm and we would refer you back to your doctor. So, once you get the all clear to exercise, ask your doctor what you can do. What works for me with my knee issues, for example, may not work for you.

And did you know that nutrition is more important than exercise when it comes to living a healthy life? While you are TEMPORARILY sidelined, you can focus on making small changes to making better food choices.

"I did go to the doctor and he said to take ibuprofen, ice it and rest for a week. And if it doesn't feel better we'll take the next step"
Then that is what you do!
Seriously.

The knee is a tricky joint, and you can really makes things worse by going against doctor's orders. Better to be off of it for a week or two and not risk an injury that will have you off of it for a month or two, right?

"I need to start exercising to lose weight. "
Not really. Exercise keeps your body fit, but you can lose weight with no exercise.
Weight loss is more about what and how much you eat, so concentrate on that.

If he said to rest, I probably wouldn't try to start exercising. The good news is that when it comes to weight loss, the majority of your progress comes from diet, not exercise. So even if you can't be as active as you'd like, you can still make progress by tracking your food carefully and making healthy choices.

Yes, I did go to the doctor and he said to take ibuprofen, ice it and rest for a week. And if it doesn't feel better we'll take the next step. It's only been a couple of days but I feel like laying on the couch for a week isn't going to help in my weight loss. :)

Have you been to see a doctor about your pain? Did you do something to cause an injury? If you haven't already, your first step should be to get checked out by your doc to see what's going on and if there are any issues that need to be addressed. Once you know what's causing the problem, then you'll know what exercises are safe to try.

I have recently injured my knee and I stand on my feet all day at work. When I get home from work I am in so much pain that when I sit down I am done for the day. I need to start exercising to lose weight. What suggestions do you have that I can do?
