I'm so sorry to hear about the ulcerative colitis - that is a truly terrible disease to live through. I've had one coworker have to nurse her father through that, and it was awful.

It's wonderful you're able to return to running! Given how long you were unable to run, is it possible that you lost significant muscle mass, and the 10lb you've gained are your body replacing that lost muscle tissue?

Take life one day at a time - enjoy today before you worry about tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about those 6 months! Hopefully you are seeing things turn around for the better already!

Are you tracking all your food and exercise? If so, what is your typical calorie burn and calorie intake? Is it possible that you are eating too much or too little for the longer runs? How are your clothes fitting? Are you also taking measurements?

Sorry to hear about your tough 6 months.

Running, especially when you get into longer distances, can make you terribly hungry. My only recommendation is to make sure you are eating enough to support the long distances and track everything.

Hi All.

I have been a runner for the last several years. I had to take an extended period off beginning last summer because of illness(a terrible flare of ulcerative colitis that left my hospitalized) and then my mom became very ill and passed away. It’s been a long 6 months :(.

I started to run again about 2 months ago. I have been slowly adding mileage as I work back up to long distances and I’m feeling really good about my runs. My long runs are now 10 miles and I’m doing another 10-15 spread out over the rest of the week.

My issue is weight gain. In the past 2 months since I’ve been running again I’ve gained 10 pounds!! Has anyone experienced this? I’m so discouraged :(. This has never happened to me before. Any insight or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks !!
