I do targeted strength training to build muscle based on what my current goals are. Example: I'm working toward proper chaturanga dandasana and tricep pushups... so I'm spending more time working triceps, upper back, chest, etc. than I necessarily would during a basic full body routine.

But, as others have said, doing these exercises in the hopes of reducing fat in those areas is a hopeless endeavor.

I use to do target work outs for my butt, arms, things like that with tapes. Then a friend who is a therapist told me that if I work my body from head to toe, front to back, side to side, I have targeted everything.

You CAN target workouts, to work specific muscles. Planks DO work your abs, etc.

However, you cannot target workouts for fat reduction.

i do think they work for making sure you're toning/building muscle evenly on your body!

Healthy choices and actions have positive impacts, even if the scale doesn't move!

If one means "targeting" as a means to make sure you've worked out ALL your major muscle groups....great. Or, if you are trying to improve specific muscle strength as per Physical Therapy for my hip arthritis: YES!
If one is thinking that "targeting" is going to change one's body shape (aka "problem areas") ...forget it!

I still see work outs targeted for butts, tri-cepts, calves, etc. Does any one do these and do they work? I do pyramid work outs and think they work just fine. Just wondering what the thought was on targeting.
