I treat lifting like I would brushing my teeth: I'm thorough and diligent. Although unlike brushing, I do set aside a day for some R&R, but usually reserve that day for cardio. Not necessarily meaning a treadmill or bike, but running around in the backyard with the kiddo, going for a walk, etc. is still considered a steady state exercise, too, and allows my muscles to re-energize!

when watching a tv show, my girls and I get up during the commerials and do something.

Jumping jacks, squats, crunches, leg raises, whatever you want to do that day.

There's a "name" for activity outside of regular, scheduled strength training and/or cardio! It's called N.E.A.T. which stands for Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis!

I don't sit very well at my desk and get up a lot and walk around to talk to others. I also sometimes dance while making dinner

I teach young children with disabilities. I am not sitting at a desk all day. I try to stand up more throughout the day and incorporate lots of movement during my work day. I park farther away from the entrance to the building and have some face to face conversations with co-workers when I am able.

So do you feel that extra movement is helpful? I'm just curious because I don't do it and aside from my 5 day a week exercise I am pretty sedentary. Do you do this in addition to regular traditional exercise activities (cardio, strength training)?

Being at a sedentary job, I usually try to make sure I get up and walk around every couple of hours. When I make it home after work I try to keep myself moving too.

If I can't get a workout in before leaving the house, I always get to work early enough to walk around the building, which is just about a mile in 12 min.

I pull weeds while outside with Benny. Yesterday I pruned rhododendrons while he chased butterflies 😊

I think about doing things less efficiently, like making several trips up and down the stairs. My Garmin reminds me to get up and move every hour so that helps too.

I make sure I put my shoes and socks on even on days when I'm home. I can't sit and put my feet up with shoes and socks on .. And at the office, I make sure when they call me over because of questions I walk the LONG way .. around the building (retiring in 3 weeks) ..

I have a pretty active job, but I park at the very back of the lot at work and when shopping and I always take the stairs, just to get those extra steps in. I also have a little peddler under my desk at work to use when I am actually sitting for a minute.

In order to get in extra steps and activity I pace or do "laps" while doing household activities such as cooking; doing laundry; flossing my teeth.
