You can exercise fairly soon after eating light foods that your body can convert to energy really quickly, like juice, a banana, etc.

For instance, when I trained to do a half marathon, I knew my body would NEED food in order to get through the training - especially on those 8- to 10-mile + days. I'd eat a 1/3 cup of oatmeal with half a banana and some honey before my training. It would take me about 10 minutes to get to my path that I used so that was ample time for my body to assimilate the food.

BUT, that was a special occasion going on there. I haven't trained for a half-marathon in years (probably never will again - running is NOT my thing.) Since I don't have any particularly demanding exercises I absolutely have to fuel up for, I just eat normal meals and then don't work out until maybe 3 or so hours after.

If I feel like I really really need some food in me before a workout, I eat something light like I mentioned above.

I eat a small snack, like a banana, otherwise I have to wait a few hours after a meal. That’s what works for me , but you might have to try a few different way before you get what works best for you.

It depends on a few things. Is it a meal or just a snack? With a meal, usually 2-3 hours is best but maybe an hour or so with a snack. That being said, each person is different. Some people need to wait a while or they feel sick, while others can eat and exercise soon after. It will only affect your comfort level, not your weight loss, so do what works best for you.

How long should wait after I eat to walk my treadmill? I'm just starting out exercising and don't want to injury myself. I have a spinal injury and nerve damage on my left side due to a car accident but I'm prediabetic so I have to get in shape.
