I drink 2 or 3 glasses while I make coffee because I feel so dehydrated when I wake up.

I take in large amounts of liquids within the first hour of waking up. Partly because I do morning workouts, within 10 or 15 minutes of waking, and I drink probably 1-2 liters during that workout... probably a combination of water lost while sleeping and the workout itself. Then, I make a smoothie (with a shot of espresso in it lol).

I've done a couple of different things. Both work! emoticon

* 1 tbspn ACV in 8 oz of fresh well water, followed by another 8 oz. Works to "start" my day!
* fresh-squeezed organic lemon juice + rind in a 20 oz mug of hot water (in place of tea)

No food for at least a couple of hrs. after -- (works well with Intermittent Fasting)!

Nope... if I drink more than about a half cup on an empty stomach, I feel nauseous...which is also why I don't have coffee before breakfast...! Once I've had breakfast...then I can comfortably drink more. (Yeah.. I know... I've already been told I'm "wired funny"...LOL...but that's how it is!)

I drink lots of water first thing to get it over with, and drinking it first thing is better for me because I have all day to get it out of my system. If I drink water later in the day I spend most of night getting up to pee.

THanks everyone!

Now that I think of it, it has worked wonders for my insomnia. Usually I struggle to meet my quota over the course of the day, and then wake up painfully thirsty in the middle of the night. Then of course I have to go pee, and it can take me a couple hours to get back to sleep.

With this routine I get half the day's drinking out of the way so I don't wake up thirsty any more. Now I'm sleeping through the night (and sleeping hard!) so that aspect alone is worth it.

I find I lose two to three pounds overnight, which is two to three pints of water. So I drink a couple pints ASAP just to re-hydrate.

I also drink to take meds.
...and doing so does nothing other than help my meds go down.

Filling your stomach with fluids does allow you eat to less, IF you listen to the cues that your stomach is full.
Since you put this in the Fitness and Exercise board, are you expecting water in the morning to affect either of those?

I drink 2 cups of the water when I get up (thyroid meds, too - so same thing - no eating until at least 45 min after).

I'm not sure I believe any of the hype that gets attached to drinking large volumes of water first thing in the morning, ie: "increases metabolism", but I do know I feel better when I've had those 2 cups versus days where I forgot to fill my glass all the way the night before and only had maybe 1/2 cup of water with my medications in the morning.

I drink a full bottle of water with my thyroid medication in the morning and can't eat for a full hour due to the medication. I can't say that it has done anything for me other than just getting my water intake started. That said...not sure if the fact that my thyroid struggles is why I don't see any difference.

Has anyone else heard of the trick of drinking lots of water first thing in the morning? I came across this thing about drinking a lot of water on an empty system and waiting 45 minutes before ingesting anything else.

It's hard to say whether it's "cleansing" me as promised, but I do find I'm much better hydrated when I do half my drinking before I even get dressed. And it seems to be reducing my appetite which is nice.

Has anyone else tried this? What results have you seen, if any?
