I exercise every day but 1 or 2 days/week I don't go that hard and usually Sunday is the day when I just do a gentle walk or two. Unusual for me not to get at least 10,000 steps and 30 minutes of exercise.

This is going to depend on a lot.

Factors to consider:
-how intense are your workouts
-how long are your workouts
-how fit are you right now
-what type of workout(s) are you doing

I have very intense workouts that rotate strength and steady state cardio with muscle endurance sessions. They last about 2 hours including 10-15 min of stretching at the end.

I take weekends off from "working out." That doesn't mean I wouldn't go for a nice bike ride, or a hike, or some other form of activity, just means I'm not in doing an intense workout.

If my only exercise was taking a walk for a couple miles a day, then unless your body is telling you otherwise, if you want to do it every day, go ahead. For me, the 1-2 miles I walk during lunches I don't even count against my exercise, it's just adding some activity to my otherwise sedentary day job.

Burnout (both physical and mental) can be a very real thing, however, as can over training, so rest days aren't a bad idea if you need them. Shoot, I plan a 'deload' week once every 5 weeks where I do a lighter workout each day. Gives my brain and my body some time to recover.

It depends on how you feel. Some people benefit from 1-3 total rest days each week. Others prefer to exercise most days of the week, but have a mix of lighter activity and more intense days. But don't feel like you have to exercise every day in order to see results.

Here is the response I posted on your exact same thread in the Sparkcafe:

Yes, a rest day is important! It allows your body to repair itself.

But a rest day doesn't mean you are hanging out on the couch for the day. I always do my normal daily activities and may do a light, recovery type activity like walking. Others might do yoga or whatever.

Listen to your body. Do what makes you feel good.

I walk everyday, but I do make the 7th day an easy walk day.
