really depends on the week. summer is easier, right now we still have so much ice and slippery roads that only treadmil is safe so about 2-4x a week. in summer 5-6x.

I have pleurisy, 3 types of anemia from Iron,folic acid,other vitamins not working,chronic pneumonia,chronic kidney disease and low blood pressure & blood clots in both lungs for 3 years..I am 55 years old. I had 6 operations recently. I had cervical cancer 6 years ago, no signs last 3 years as well.

I don't do much cardio as a standalone. I'll run up stairs; I'll run up the hill from the parking lot; I'll play basketball; or I'll do 10 mins on the elliptical.

Cardio or not has nothing to do with losing weight - it has a lot of benefits, but it's not going to affect your weight loss. Losing weight happens by eating less than you burn. Cardio can give you a higher burn so you can eat a little more and stay in your deficit, but that's about the extent of it's affect on your weight.

That being said, depending on where I am in my training plan, I do steady state cardio (elliptical or bicycle) for 30 minutes 3x/week, and for 15 minutes (as a warm up) the other two days. Two days a week I do a "muscle endurance" training session for 90 minutes that has a heavy cardio factor (burpees, box jumps, etc). On my deload week I do a longer SS cardio session (60+ minutes), and I'm thinking about adding a weekend bicycle ride in when the weather is nice which would be another longer session.

That being said, I'm training for my race season and my racing goals, so this isn't a "typical" person's workout plan. I wouldn't call it "fun" unless you really enjoy those things for that long LOL. My training plan was developed with my trainer, not something I just "came up with" on my own, either.

I am not a fan of cardio and used to do primarily strength but it really wasn't working to take the weight off so now I do cardio almost every day, incorporating it into my weight training.

Actually, regular moderate cardio is recommended to all people in the years precisely for keeping the cardiovascular system in order and in general for prolonging life.If you are engaged in building muscle mass, then cardio is not recommended, since their effect on muscle growth is somewhat the opposite of hypertrophy. However, during the fat burning period.The presence of cardio in your training plan (but only together with force) will make your fat burning even more effective.

With 16 lbs to lose, a normal rate of weight loss is probably around 1/2 lb per week, so you're not far off that mark. The less you have to lose, the slower it's going to come off. It's good that you're measuring now b/c that's another way to see progress.

I just started measuring myself last week. I started sp about mid to the end of January 2018 with the goal of losing 16 pounds. So far I've only lost one. I do have breathing problems and am on a ventilator, so maybe it's harder to get my heart rate up or I don't burn as many calories on a regular basis because the vent pretty much breathes for me.... I don't know, just a thought.

Yes I have been tracking both my nutrition and exercise and staying within the recommended calories. I exercise at least 6 days a week which includes both cardio and strength training. Last week I lot half a pound but this week gained a pound. Over the past month or so I've only lost one pound.

I've joined the plateau challenge and am making a couple of other change (ie. measuring my food, trying to eat smaller meals more often during the day, and changing my weigh in day from Sunday morning to Friday morning).

I don't think you need to do cardio daily to see results. Are you doing any strength training? Are you tracking your food daily, staying in your recommended calorie and nutrient ranges? How long has it been since you lost any weight?

So I've hit a plateau in my weight loss and am wondering if part of it is not doing enough cardio. I usually do cardio every other day for about 15-20 minutes, however some of the information I've been reading hints at doing cardio daily. Do you do cardio daily? What do you find works best for you (knowing that everyone may be a bit different)?
