Having just come off of a broken tib/fib pilon fracture that had me laid up for quite some time (and off and on with subsequent surgeries), start controlling your diet NOW.

Eat lots of protein to help with healing, and be sure you're giving your body what it needs, but for me, the real problems started at the in between stage. I was released for weight bearing, but leg was NOT up to working out yet. I did not get on the "control my food" bandwagon, and gained back nearly all the weight I had previously lost (my ordeal lasted nearly a full year before I could handle a gym workout again).

I'm back to regular working out again now, but while my fitness has started to come back surprisingly quickly, the weight, as usual, isn't leaving so quickly!

I love that Coach Jen is so on top of these message boards- I would've directed you to the same place! Also, it's a good idea to ask your doctor for clearance/guidance!

I agree that now is a great time to focus on your nutrition. Your body burns calories 24/7/365, it's just you don't get the bonus calories from a workout.

Now you can concentrate on calorie control and upper body strength. Remember that exercise is an aid to weight loss, but calorie control is the key to weight loss. Good luck and heal quickly!

Need ideas for burning calories/"exercise" as I'm recovering in bed. I'm not creative enough to think of anything more than 'arm circles'.....any ideas?
