i would not run on ice. I would run into the wind on the way out and return with the wind behind me.

Wimpy me. When it is really cold, I just walk in the house! All my 2018 walking has been in the house.

If the weather is cold, then you can bundle up if you choose to run or walk outdoors or you can move your run or walk to the indoor track at your local recreation center.

My general rule of thumb for exercising outside when it's cold is to dress as if it's 20 degrees warmer.

The SP guide Coach Jen shared has sine great ideas to get started but I basically wore what it recommends for the 20 to 30 F on Monday for my 5k. When the race started at 9 AM, it was -14 F with a very light wind. I wore a jacket and pants with brushed fleece on the inside; if I had worn an actual fleece, I would have been too hot. I also wear wool crew sock that are tall enough to tuck the bottoms of my pant into to help limit ankle skin exposure. I also had a layer of Aquaphor on my face and a neck gaiter.

wool long johns, fleece skirt, ski socks, cashmere mittens.
I never cover my face, no matter how cold, because it gives me panic attacks.

Serious props for going outside in such frigid temperatures! I don't think there's enough gear to get me outside in that level of cold!

Healthy choices and actions have positive impacts, even if the scale doesn't move!

What's your favorite gear?

I finally was able to run outside when it was below 10F today because of a neoprene/fleece face mask! Previously, my lower limit was about 15-20F, depending on windchill.
