Your first step would be to get a good evaluation by a doctor...and ask for a referral to a physical therapist. In just a session or two, they can give you exercises which will target the cause of your back pain... which you can then safely do at home.
Based on a recent experience of my own (and a referral from a good friend and my doctor) you might also check into acupuncture for pain relief.... patti
