I'm glad that helped!

Luann, that's a great rule of thumb. It just never crossed my mind until you said it. Thank you.

Denise, I understand now what you're saying. You know, I never knew about private SparkTeams. Thanks so much for your help!

If you have your SparkPage set to private or offline, we won't see it, so we wouldn't use anything from there. Same thing with Friend Feed, but the Community Feed we would be able to see.

Private SparkTeams are not searchable. You would have to be invited or create a private SparkTeam and invite others from the team page with the special coded url.

To be 100% safe, you should consider everything you choose to put on the internet as being accessible to everyone in the world forever.
That goes for ANY site, not just this one.
Even deleted things will be around forever.
And hackers can hack.

Ok. So only private teams and sparkmail. Nothing else is private? So if my blog is set to private, you consider my pictures and anything I write as publuc property of SP? What about my friend feed that is set to private?

Where are the private spark teams?

Private correspondence on the site (like in private SparkTeams or SparkMails) would not be used for any public purpose.

If you delete something, then it’s taken off our server and we wouldn't use it, but that doesn’t mean it can’t still show up in a Google search.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for your reply, Denise. And, yes, your response is extremely helpful.

What has changed since I last reviewed it is there was a clause that referred to posts that were public versus private, and that no longer exists. Is there any policy on public versus private?

I also am concerned about things that I have decided to delete. I deleted a lot once I found out that my posts and pictures are available to everyone. I would like to know if that information that I deleted is still accessible to SparkPeople, and if you still claim rights to all that I had deleted?

Those haven't been changed/updated since April, so if you reviewed them in May, it all says the same thing now.

Basically, yes. Here are a few examples of how they may be used that might help:

We'd be able to use one of your blog posts in our featured emails. We could use a quote from one of your Message Board posts in promotional materials for the site. If we wrote another book, we could use content you've posted as part of that without your permission.

Typically we ask permission and we always cite the source (using your username, not real name unless you've granted that permission.) The legal language just gives us the right to use it in a variety of ways.

Hope that helps!

Coach Denise

I recently realised that what we post on SparkPeople is available to everyone on the internet, not only members. I realised this when I recently stumbled upon one of my blogs in an internet search. Much to my surprise, I could access my blog even when I was not logged into SP. I know other people already realise that, and would consider me slow on the draw, but there you have it. I had always assumed what we post is only available to people signed in, i.e. members.

After I realised this, I looked at the privacy, terms and conditions of using SparkPeople, which I had reviewed in May. I believe the conditions I've been changed since May. Be that as it may, from what I understand, SparkPeople has the legal rights to every letter I key in here as well as every picture I post. This right is forever, permanent, irrevocable and worldwide. Is this correct?
