Hi,

Please give this way of connecting a try to see if it will work for you now:

1. Uninstall the SparkPeople app
2. Install the SparkPeople app from the App Store on your iPhone (not from
iTunes on your computer)
3. Login to the SparkPeople app
4. Go to the Log screen using the main menu at the bottom. This is the
screen in the app that controls the Apple Health authorization request. It
should prompt here.
5. If it doesn't prompt you, close SparkPeople and open the Apple Health app
6. Go to "Sources" in the bottom menu
7. Find SparkPeople and turn all categories on

If this doesn't work, please provide the following information:
- iPhone model (iPhone 5, iPhone 6S, etc)
- iOS version (Settings > General > About > Version)
- SparkPeople app version (SparkPeople > MySpark > Settings > Application
Info)

I hope that works for you!

Any update on whether the new release is available yet? I cannot get Apple Health to show up as a source and it would be great to have this linked.

Having the same issue - does anyone know how to get SparkPeople Mobile app to connect to the Health App first? It didn't show up when I went to log as suggested below

SparkSue, I couldn't get mine to Health App to show SparkPeople as an option either - until I went back to my SparkPeople Mobile App and connected to the Health App from there first. Then when I went back to my Health App, I was able to confirm that all my settings were mirrored there to share data between the two apps. Unfortunately I am not sure how I got to the screen on the SparkPeople Mobile App - I think I clicked on Log and it just came up as an option.

Hey Spark_Merle, thank you for the quick reply!

I haven't been entering anything manually, just letting the Health app sync with the Spark app. The walking miles are only picked up by my Watch and iPhone, no other sort of tracker, but Spark reports a much higher number most of the time. The steps are closer, but not the same. The workout minutes are accurate, but unless I enter manually, Spark will say something like 35 minutes of activity but 0 calories.

It will be a pain for several quick workout breaks during the day, but I may have to start using a heart rate monitor strap, then transfer the calories manually. :(

Hopefully it will improve over time.

Also, found an article with a lot more information about using the Watch for weight loss. Not everyone is as geeky as me about this stuff, but for me, the more I understand, the better I'll do. :) http://mattgemmell.com/losing-weight-with-apple-watch/

Happy Friday!

Hi WRITERFIT.

We should be receiving all steps that were tracked by a device. If you manually enter an activity and/or steps, that will not sync to SparkPeople. If you have not manually entered anything, maybe try syncing again at the end for the day to see if the numbers will match up then.

The calories burned portion that is brought over from Apple Health is only what Apple Health sees as your most/highly active minutes and calories burned. We don't have any control over what they consider those to be. So if the number that comes over as all day activity looks too high for that, I would just enter your actual workout minutes and estimated calories burned.

Hope that helps!

Hi all,

I seem to have my Watch connected, but the data transfer is quite inconsistent. The numbers showing up on SparkPeople for calories burned, exercise minutes, steps, and mileage don't match what's on my Watch or iPhone display. Sigh...

So if I am going to have to break that connection and just enter these numbers manually, which I hate to do, I'm a little unclear about how the calories on the Apple Health app relate to what Spark is counting. Should I enter the full amount I see during the day, around 900? Or should it only be workout minute rather than all-day activity?

Thank you, and everyone have a great weekend!

Thanks for letting me know, Sue. I'm sure sorry it didn't work for you.

We do not have any other tips/fix at this time. There is a new release of our app planned very soon. Although it may not specifically have a fix for this Apple Health issue, I recommend you give it all another try once you have the updated app.

Sorry I do not have a better answer at this time.

Hi Merle

I tried this but it didn't work. In detail:
1. Open the Apple Health app on phone. (The app icon is a white box with a pink heart in the upper right corner.) YES I COULD DO THIS.
2. Tap "Sources" in the bottom menu. YES I COULD DO THIS.
3. Locate "SparkPeople" NO. SP DIDN'T APPEAR ON THE SOURCES SCREEN
4. Tap "Turn All Categories On"

Thanks anyway.

Hi All!

Here is the response from our app developer. I hope this helps you get Apple Health connected!

"I've been researching competing apps and they all seem to have similar problems with Apple Health. From that research, I did find something else we could try, though.

1. Open the Apple Health app on phone. (The app icon is a white box with a pink heart in the upper right corner.)
2. Tap "Sources" in the bottom menu.
3. Locate "SparkPeople"
4. Tap "Turn All Categories On"

It also seemed like some people had success doing an uninstall, phone restart, then reinstall."

I hope this helps! If you don't mind, please me know either way. Thanks for giving it another try.

One more tip: I had a member who said they were able to connect Apple Health only when they turned off wifi and used their phone's data connection. If you've tried everything else, this may be worth a try.

Hi again!

I'm very sorry to see that some of you are still having trouble connecting your Apple Health to SparkPeople. Did you see the more recent update to the instructions suggesting that you make sure the Low Power Mode is turned off in Settings, Battery? That has been the issue for a couple members now; once they changed that setting, they were able to go back to the original instructions and connect.

Please run through those instructions again and let me know how it goes. I've asked the developer if he has any other tips to add; but, to date, all the steps are listed below in my earlier reply.

Sorry! I understand the frustration.

Hi HMBROWN1 - yes it's frustrating isn't it? And it's not like either of these two are little niche products. SP is one of the biggest health sites going. Apple is a massive tech specialist. You'd think it would be possible for their systems to "talk" to each other.

I don't know why I'm posting this really, as nobody from SP seems to be reading it! But, for what it's worth, yesterday I opened a completely new SP account, just in case there is some setting in my existing account which is stopping the sync from working. I opened the new account on the (latest version) SP app on my iPhone. I did NOT get the question about whether to link to Apple Health. It wouldn't link. So the problem isn't to do with any settings on my SP account. I've now cancelled that "test" account.

I still can't see SP on my Apple Health menu in \settings\privacy.

I'm a little disappointed that I've been asking about this since 28th Feb and nobody from SP has commented. Normally the response from coaches and such is really good.

Having searched the forums for an answer to this problem, it's clear that this is a longstanding problem and that SP can't resolve it.

The Polar Flow website is actually very good in itself, showing charts and collated data for day/week/month. So I've decided to stop even trying to link the Polar Loop with SP and I'll just use their website instead.

I'm not going to manually enter data into SP, so I'll just stop using the fitness tracking part of the site altogether. That's disappointing because I liked seeing comments from friends when I reached certain fitness minute levels and so on. Life's too short for doubling up on the work of logging activities though. The whole point of getting a fancy tracker was so that it would automatically display my goals, results and progress over time. SP used to support that but just doesn't work for me any longer.

I notice that Polar does link directly and simply to My Fitness Pal, so I'm investigating that site at the moment.

Hi there, same problem here. Downloaded app today. Logged in - DIDN'T get an option to access Apple Health. Can't see SP on the Settings\Privacy\Health screen. Very frustrating.

I've used the SP mobile app before but deleted it and downloaded a new version in case mine was out of date.

I've followed your suggestions in your 19th Jan post. Is there anything else you can suggest that might help Merle?

Thank you

MYSTERY SOLVED (I hope for others, too.)

Your directions need another line:

* Make sure Low Power Mode is turned off in Settings, Battery. *

(Whether or not needed once I restored full power, I deleted the app, powered off my iPhone and started again. I had done this multiple times before during troubleshooting, to no effect.)

Today I saw low power was on when I could not adjust Background App Refresh, one of the iPhone features that is disabled when the phone is in Low Power Mode.

💡 Aha! Low Power Mode had been on for my grandson's Pokémon Go walks.

It was then such a joy to see the connection to Apple Health in the SP app.

Hope this helps the others! 😁

Merle, for the developers: the only other variable is SP uses a different (albeit, my normal) email address than my Apple account is under. Though, as I mentioned, I see SP under camera access privacy. 😉 Perplexing challenge!

I do have 4.14. Current iOS update. Apple 7 plus. I saw SP under camera for permissions. Nothing is under Apple Health, yet I haven't done much with it except record default steps and distance. I'm fairly tech savvy so looked another hour to understand. I even powered the phone down. Plenty of memory, too. Clueless. Thanks for running it by your developer.

Hi Sue and welcome back!

I'm sorry you are having trouble connecting Apple Health. Those things (age of account, Premium) should not be impacting this. A few members have had trouble getting Apple Healthy connected; but, I have not been able to determine why it's easy for some and not others. One member who initially had trouble and later got it working said they kept "messing with phone settings" and it eventually worked - sorry it wasn't anything more specific than that.

Is your iOS up-to-date? Which phone do you have? Please verify that the SparkPeople app is version 4.14 (or higher). Let me know about those things and I will check with the developer to see if he might have any other tips.

Hello Spark Merle,

I am starting up again with SparkPeople, just joined Premium. The program worked miracles, and I'm happy to see the integration with Apple Health.

I have spent the last hour trying to unsuccessfully connect the two, reading SP blogs and message boards about Apple Health. It doesn't appear in my Apple Health Privacy,

Troubleshooting, I followed your steps. Apple Health is not prompted on the log screen. I just see my meal and fitness trackers. Nothing shows under Health Privacy.

Might this be caused by the age of my account? Or my starting a Premium membership? I joined in 2009.

I deleted and downloaded the app again per your instructions.

Thanks for your help.

Hi all,

I was checking back on some accounts and see that some of you seem to have Apple Health connected to SparkPeople now; but, others do not. I do not have any new tips for you to try (sorry); but, if you want to give it another try now, please go back to my earlier post in this thread on Jan 19 and give all those steps another try. It's important you do each one as written, try not to assume you know what the next step is so you don't miss anything. And before you do any of that, please shutdown & then restart your phone.

I hope it works better for all of you now!

Ciao Kat,

I am having the exact same issue. SparkPeople is not under my Health app either. The only push notice that I got from SparkPeople was for emails as well.
I have iphone 6s so it should be working on it.
I have uninstalled SparkPeople several times and re-installed it, re-booted several times and still unable to get SparkPeople to show up under the Health app in my phone.

I am hoping that I can get this issue resolved. But I am happy to see that I am not the only one that is having the same issue as I am.

Have a great day!
Sincerely,
Shelley

Hi there,
I just installed the app and it did not the the promp me at the log in screen to give permissions for Apple Health. Just a request to send notification emails.

Also, when I follow the instructions, Sparkpeople is not listed as an app in my list under Privacy/Health, so I can't give the app permission to read Health. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I have an iPhone 7 and am running IOS 10.2.1.

Anyone else get it working?
Thanks!

Hi HOCKEYJAC,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble connecting Apple Health. Here are some tips and things to check. I hope this helps you get it going!

- Check the version of the SparkPeople app you have. It must be at least 4.14.

- Make sure your phone's Low Power Mode is turned off in Settings, Battery.

- When you installed our app, did you go to the Log screen? That is where you should be prompted to enable access to Apple Health. There is a toggle for each of the data points for which SparkPeople can pull. (Green is ON, white is OFF) Once selections have been made, tap “Allow” at top right. If you did not see this, you might uninstall/reinstall our app to see if it works better this time. That Apple Health prompt only occurs once though. So if you don't see that, try the following:

1. Open SP Mobile
2. Tap MySpark in bottom menu
3. Tap the Settings tab
4. Tap Connect Devices/Apps
5. Tap the “Settings” button under “Apple Health”
6. Follow the on-screen instructions to do the following:
. a. Exit SP Mobile and open the Settings app.
. b. Tap Privacy
. c. Tap Health
. d. Tap SparkPeople
. e. To enable access, toggle any/all switches to ON (green). To disable access, toggle any/all switches to OFF (white).
7. Re-open SP Mobile and navigate to the Home screen
8. User should start to see data in the Exercise section of the Log screen within 5 minutes.

I hope this helps!

I am having the same issue connect my Apple Health app with Spark people app. I have uninstalled and reinstalled a few times and it still does not list spark people as one of the apps that request access to my health data. Any other fixes?

Update: I fiddled with my Apple Health app for a bit and played with the settings, then opened the spark people app again and finally got the pop-up asking to allow access to the Health app. So, it works now. Yay!

Hi All,

The last update to our app was intended to fix problems like you were having with connecting Apple Health. If any of you are still having trouble with that, would you mind reinstalling our app and then giving it another try? When you uninstall and reinstall, you should then just be able to open our mobile app, go to Log screen and allow access via the Apple Health popup.

Let me know what happens if it all doesn't work right for you.

Sorry it took me a while to get back with you too.

Our app developer is checking into these issues. I will let you know as soon as I hear back from him.

I have tried everything listed below but nothing works. I have installed and uninstalled a dozen times. Sometimes the app won't show like the patron below speaks of. I conintually get a "Unable to retrieve data at this time. (5)" message. Occasionally the 5 is replaced by a 2 or 3. I have googled and found nothing. First when I start to do you spark people I was pretty excited. It was coming from the Fitbit app which I was ravenous user of. I was logging in tracking my food all the time. Since it doesn't seem to work with my apple watch I really just stopped. Not counting anything, not looking at calories, or steps, just nothing.

When I go to settings - privacy - health on my apple phone, I do not see sparkpeople as an option. I'm trying to get my Apple Watch to synchronize with sparkpeople. Can you help?

The Apple Health info is finally syncing although the numbers are off but it's progress.

p.s. to RADCARS - There are no other SparkPeople accounts associated with the email address you have on this account. If you might have old accounts with a different email address, I can search for them if you let me know what your email address was and/or if you remember your username. You can email those to me at merle@sparkpeople.com rather than publicly posting your email here.

RADCARS, JSWP93 & JEFFBENECKE - We have a new update to our iPhone app waiting for approval by Apple. Hopefully, they will approve and post it within a few days. We believe this update will fix the issue you are having.

After you install the update, of course, let me know if the problem continues. Sorry for the inconvenience until then.
