My meals for yesterday started with my usual morning "tea." It consists of fresh ginger, fresh turmeric, pepper, himalayan pink salt and fresh lemon.

First meal was bacon and eggs.

Snack was an acai bowl with banana Yuck. Won't do that again.

Afternoon snack was oolong tea and a handful of walnuts (no photo).

Dinner was baked salmon on top of a salad of greens only topped with vinegar (no photo).

I won't be posting anything until possibly Monday. We are celebrating our 27th Anniversary and will be out and about quite a bit. Husband has planned weekend, so a little unsure about what we will be eating.

My daily walks usually have me passing by 2 elementary schools, a high school and then I turn around when I reach the University. So much trash along the way, I decided to bring a bag with me to start collecting some of the debris.

Please help me to understand why it is so easy to self-sabotage.

I have successfully lost weight many times in my life. Most recently (Sept 2016 to April 2017) I was able to lose 30 lbs without one bit of exercise. In April, I thought it was a good time to start an exercise program, so I joined Orange Theory. This is such an amazing workout and something I felt was perfect for me. However, within the first month, I gained about 10 pounds and over the next several months continued to gain. I can't imagine I was eating any differently than before and I know that it was not muscle weight.

I seem to be one of those people who reacts negatively to strenuous exercise.

Then in September of 2017, my mother-in-law passed away and we were forced to drop everything and move to Florida for 6 weeks to manage all her affairs. My husband is the trustee of her will and there are 8 beneficiaries (blood and step). This was the most stressful time of my life, dealing with these horrible people on a daily basis (all in their 60s and stealing anything that wasn't nailed down, including jewelry and vehicles.) Since all of this, I have gained back 20 of the 30 that I originally lost and am now starting over. And wow, it is so hard to start again.

Recently, I quit Orange Theory since my knees and shins are a mess. I know what I need to do, I know what works for my body, then why does this seem so difficult? You would think this would be easy to jump right back into things.

Can you tell, I am throwing myself a pity party?

I research and research for the latest in diet trends, when what I should be doing is what I know works for me. Calories in/Calories out is not a very popular way to lose weight nowadays. Keto seems to be the "it" magic pill, but the idea of eating so much fat makes my stomach churn not to mention I am allergic to coconut. Intermittent fasting was I tool I used in the past, not because I felt that it helped me lose weight any quicker, it was just easier to only eat 2 meals a day. There was a lot less planning, meal prep, etc.

So, I am back after being gone for about a week. My youngest came home from college and as always, my focus becomes him and his needs. He is a cadet at a senior military college, so he comes home with duffel bags full of clothes and uniforms as well as all his army gear. My house looks like a war zone.

He will only be home for a short time since he has military obligations all summer. Hopefully, I will be able to stay on track.

SUGAR- should come with a warning, more addictive than cocaine! May I say sugar can not be played with at all. Delete from any food you consume and if you survive the next three days, you will find so many of the cravings disappear. It's like being reborn.

wow Can I relate to your post. The gray thing I have been debating for awhile. But I have let my hair almost grow all the way out and I look so old and washed out. So I keep coloring it. Wishing your great luck and happiness with your new move. As far as the sugar goes, an everyday battle for me also. I am very addicted to it. Good luck

Enough with the obsession!

There are two things I want most to change about myself. One is to be thin enough that I don't cringe every time I look in the mirror. The second one is to let my natural hair grow out (grey). Both of these things take time, perseverance and resolve.

The grey hair thing should be easy enough...just stop coloring it! Although, when you have everyone around you saying it will be a bad idea, it's not so easy. I was thinking that this would be a great time to do it, since we will be moving to another country. Start fresh in a new place...

The weight loss issue isn't as cut and dry (hair pun!). This probably isn't the best time to try to lose weight, but I am determined to give it a go. Sadly, I tend to obsess about being perfect with my food choices. Making sure I eat enough, getting the right nutrients, etc. consumes me. I wish I could just choose to eat the right foods no matter the situation, eat until I am full and move a little more. Why am I so addicted to sugar? Maybe that could be another day's entry.

WOW! Moving to another Country kind of jumps out as a major life change. I must admit I have never moved more than 20 miles from where I was born. I wish you luck and pat on the back for thinking outside the box. Good luck.

It is true that when I start a "diet," I become obsessed. My focus is on what food I am going to eat, when I am going to eat it and I also focus on what others are eating. It consumes a lot of my time!

Why can't I get to a place where I just eat like a normal person? I am so much happier when I am not counting every calorie, every carb, every macro. Sometimes I wonder if I would just be happier living my life as a fat person.

Hi Tina. I think I share your new addiction. Loved the smell of coffee always but hated the taste. Then, about 10 years ago...something clicked. Now I can't give it up. I need to. I really need to. Maybe we can form a support group. Good luck on your journey!

My husband and I used to live in the Pacific Northwest and would make fun of all the coffee shops on every street corner and the crazy drink orders everyone talked about. It always seemed so pretentious to us and has been a running joke for the last 28 years...until recently.

You see, I have been a tea drinker my whole life. When I was about 5 years old, I tried a cup of Constant Comment and I was hooked. I never really got into all the flavored teas, just give me a plain old cup of black tea with one sugar and splash of milk and I am a happy camper.

Our son, who lives in Asia, was coming home this past Christmas. So, I went out into the garage and got the dusty old cheap Mr. Coffee pot, brought it inside and gave it a good wash. I then went to Whole Foods and bought some fancy "breakfast blend" coffee. I decided to make a pot just to make sure it still worked. I don't know what possessed me to try a cup after all these years, but I did and now I get it!

Every afternoon since the holidays, I look forward to one cup of light coffee with a little sugar and milk. It is like pure heaven to me, a treat of sorts. I enjoy it while cruising the internet for healthy dinner recipes.

I am still only a junior member of the club, since I have yet to go into a Starbuck's or order a coffee when I was out a about.

Hello, my name is Tina and I am now a coffee addict.

Studying other people's eating habits and diets, I find that Keto followers are most consistent with their weight loss. However, if you study total amount of calories consumed by successful dieters of various diet plans such as WW, all low-carb diets, Jenny Craig, etc. including Keto, almost all are consuming between 1000 to 1400 calories daily.

The question: Are all successful dieters (no matter the meal plan) losing weight because they are consuming a low calorie diet?

Why are Keto followers more consistent? Is it easier to say no to carbs and sugar and eat a high fat/minimal amounts of protein?

Is it easier to get derailed when there are no restrictions? 160

Question:

On a low calorie diet (1200 to 1500 cal), how does one get all the nutrients they need on a daily basis? I always seem to fall short in almost every category except Vitamin A which I am always way over.

I have spent many an hour playing with various menus on Sparkpeople and can't seem to come up with the perfect combination of foods to fulfill the requirements for all the nutrients listed.

Intuitive eating. I would love to have the ability to know exactly what foods my body needs each day to achieve perfect health. We are bombarded daily with diet and nutrition articles and news stories. EVERYONE thinks they know what is best for us, but with the way our society is growing in girth and dying of cancer, I am not exactly sure anyone has the answer.

This reminds me of the movie "The Island" with Scarlett Johansson and Ewan McGregor. Each morning they go to the cafeteria to eat breakfast and are given only the foods they need to maintain their ultimate health. I would love this!

Keto, Vegan, Low Carb, Low Calorie, Mediterranean, Atkins, Paleo...So much information and I am more confused than I have ever been. I am going to stick to watching my calorie intake and choose the healthiest foods that I can.

I recently quit my exercise program. It was killing my knees and shins. Right now, I am on the hunt for a gentler form of exercise. Walking outside would be my choice, but I am so allergic to all the pollen. I tried a few different kinds of yoga classes and can't believe people actually pay to go to them. My son loves yoga but I just don't get it.

Because of the many health issues I suffer in silence from, I have done some research and have found what foods work best for me. Whether or not I am able to follow these guidelines is a day to day struggle. I want to eat all the foods everyone else can without feeling pain, getting rashes or gaining weight. Sadly, life doesn't work that way for me.

My Ultimate Way of Eating:

No legumes (especially peanuts)
No grains (white rice is my favorite food in the whole world and I do love popcorn)
No soy
No nightshade vegetables
No dairy (I do put a little milk in my coffee each day)
No caffeine (I am a new coffee drinker as of last Christmas and am addicted!)
Nothing processed (I love Larabars though and will figure out how to make my own)
No alcohol (no big loss because I never really cared for it)
Cut way back on sugars (all kinds including fruit)

So basically, my diet should consist of (all organic) vegetables, low-sugar fruit, grass fed beef, eggs, chicken, wild-caught salmon.

Sounds boring!!!!

Big changes are about to take place. We have decided to move to Europe. This might be the best decision we ever made or the worst...only time will tell. Sometimes I am filled with overwhelming sadness because it will mean an end to the family life we created. Who am I kidding, it is not like my boys are coming back anytime soon. The oldest lives in Asia and the youngest owes the military 5 years after he graduates. The family we created was over a long time ago, I am just the last one to admit it.

It is time to get the house ready to sell.

Hopefully, now that I am back on track again, I will be able to maintain a healthy way of eating during all these changes in my life. 160.8
