I agree. We each have our own race to run. Yours included the surgery. Did you think about the decision or was it on a whim? Something tells me you can't do something like that spur of the moment. And if you have made lifestyle changes after the surgery, it sounds like you are taking this seriously. I have heard of folks who get bariatric surgery and go back to their old habits and gain the weight back. So you are doing something right. I would also encourage you to seek support from others who have gone down the same path.

Consistency is key. But moderation is up there.

I don't really think you were selfish - you just did what you needed to do for yourself.
I know I qualify for the surgery but have decided to do it naturally - either way it is hard work.

I would suggest you looking for a group for those that have had the surgery as I am sure you will get a lot of help from them.

I was selfish and had surgery for me. I had gastric sleeve surgery last year. I have lost 80 lbs. I'm in my 50's and my health was going down hill fast. I was thin when I was younger. Had babies and just kept adding pounds. I tried every diet out there. I would lose and gain twice as much back. This surgery has given me my new life style. I have lost it slowly. I feel like I cheated. I'm not sure why, it hasn't been easy. My new life style is using this tool and I have gotten years back and added on to my life. Help I know I should not feel bad about losing weight. I don't but I feel like a took a short cut. Make sense?
