It's not that I'm not doing well on my food; it's just that right now, I'm "tracking" it by posting photos to my SP blog, and I don't feel like duplicating, so that's where it will be for now.

Yesterday, I made 3 recipes from the Forks Over Knives meal planner (3 of the sample recipes) so I would have good food in the fridge to grab. Really good move on my part, and I plan to do it every weekend.

Today's meals are below. I'm going to put an asterisk by every meal that's completely on plan.

Okay, let's try this again. New food plan starts Monday and I went shopping for the produce today. I do not feel like tracking every bite will work for me right now, so I chose a food plan that doesn't require it (the McDougall plan). Here's the plan, and I'll start tracking now, even though I don't need to really start until Monday.

Plan:

1) For the meals I make, follow McDougall plan (starch-based, vegan, no added fats. Avocados and olives and nuts are okay for now -- also Forks Over Knives, Engine 2, etc.)
2) For the meals James makes, eat one reasonable plate, and if I'm still hungry, grab a McDougall-friendly snack
3) Stop eating and drinking after dinner unless I'm physically hungry/thirsty (because I've been getting up at night needing to go the bathroom, and it's affecting my sleep)

Strategies:

1) Every weekend, choose a few recipes and make them to keep in the fridge for "fast food" needs. At least do hummus or potato spread and a main dish or two.
2) Substitute: when I want dessert, do a smoothie or some fruit. When I want chips, do baked chips. When I want cheese, do the potato spread.
3) No being mean to myself!
4) 100 on-plan meals = new dress

This week, I'm trying out the Forks Over Knives meal planner. I'm using the sample recipes to make spinach/potato tacos, herbed orzo salad, and veggie fajitas. We'll see how that goes. It will be nice to have quick-to-grab food on hand. Oh, and James made a bunch of his vegan black bean enchiladas for me and put them in the freezer in lunch-sized portions. Yay!

Back to tracking. Using the SparkPeople site & app, as usual. I think the break was good for me, and I think I should take breaks from time to time when tracking starts to annoy me, but mostly, I think it keeps me on track. I'm shooting for 50g fat (max).

Planning without really tracking isn't working out for me. I think I'm going to go ahead and switch back to the tracker and see if that is a better option for where I am right now. My most successful times on SparkPeople have been when I'm tracking every bite, even though I'm annoyed by the amount of time and energy that takes.

I'm going to head over to my tracker right now and plan tomorrow's meals. Then tomorrow, and for the next month at least, I will track every BLT (bite, lick, taste) and see how it goes. I have to give it at least a month so I can properly assess how it feels.

Of course I don't mind, Randy. You are practically my Patron Saint of Planning, and I adore the encouragement. I'm re-starting my streak today.

Streak parameters: Plan food every day (either the night before, or first thing in the morning, before breakfast). Stick to at least 2 of 3 meal plans (it's okay to leave something off, because sometimes I don't have the appetite for my whole meal, or the oomph to cook everything on my list).

Today's plan:
B: Oatmeal with butter and honey; fruit
L: Veggie burgers, salad
D: Rice noodles, stir-fry vegetables, seitan
S: Trail mix, fruit, popcorn

Today's actual:
B: Oatmeal with butter and honey emoticon
L: Lunch out with James: mixed grill (chicken/pork skewers), longaniza fries, boba tea
D: Not feeling good. Took one bite of James's dinner and skipped the rest
S: Potato chips, a little trail mix, a little nonfat greek yogurt, stir-fried veggies with ponzu and sesame oil, prunes
# of veggie servings: about 2

Okay, I'm back. Intense few days at work and at home (my uncle was in the hospital), but I'm back to plan. I'm going to give myself a goodie for every day that I stick to my plan. (Not today, unfortunately, but I'm gonna do this.)

Today's plan:
B: Oatmeal and almond milk
L: Lentil soup and fruit
D: Indian food over potatoes (James will make)
S: Fruit, veggies, popcorn

Today's actual:
B: Breakfast burrito, iced coffee
L: Asian pear, popcorn
D: Indian food over potatoes
S: Cookie, berries (raspberries/blackberries), popcorn, lots of tea

Hi Serene, I like how you set out your plans and then actual food eaten. I can't even plan tomorrow meal I just am not that well organized, I seem to think of something to eat at the last minute and know that is not a good thing. Good on you.

D: Way too much party food: potato casserole, salad, jello salad, cole slaw, boba tea, soda, candy. Avoided the meat and butter, but ate lots of everything else.

B: Green tea and plain pinto beans (still feeling a little weak/timid in the stomach from being sick)
L: *Soft avocado tacos (avocado, mango salsa, warmed corn tortillas)
D: *Baked sweet potato
S: *Fresh melon (watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew); vegetable broth; sriracha fries (baked, but they were store-bought and there was some oil in them) with ketchup, corn salsa

D: Party at dad's house

I'm going to put each day's food into these entries, but I'm also going to put an asterisk by any food that I find truly delicious -- that is, I wouldn't mind eating it once a day forever if necessary.

Today's plan:

B: Grape-nuts with almond milk, apple
L: Vegan chili
D: At mom's: shrimp scampi, pasta, broccoli
S: Frozen cherries; hummus/toast; soup

Today's actual:

B: *Grape-nuts with almond milk
L: Lunch out with Dad. Ate one plate of salad and one small plate of buffet food (seafood and veggies); unsweetened iced tea
D: Got sick after lunch and didn't have any dinner. Had a little vegetable broth later on, but that's it.
S: green tea

Tomorrow's plan:

B: Grape-nuts with almond milk
L: Lentil soup
D: Shrimp, pasta, and veggies at mom's
S: Hummus and tomato sandwich; sweet potato
