I weigh 140-45 and am 5'6. I take a M top, 6 or 8 bottoms and size 8 dress usually. It really depends on the clothing but those are the most common. For me, bathing suits are super challenging to buy because I am a M bottom and XL top.

I’m usually about 115lbs but gained a lot of weight really fast recently and weirdly enough haven’t gone up any sizes. I was a size 2 when I was 108 freshman year and was still a size 2 when I got up to 130 not too long ago senior year. Everyone says I look the same 🤷‍♀️

If we're talking about shoes or socks though well... 🤣🤣 I can wear sizes anywhere from 4-6 in a half depending how small or big they're made. So yea I can wear kids shoes 🤣. Socks are difficult since kids socks are always ankle socks that don't cover my ankle and long socks the ankle goes way over my ankle and because they're too big they slide off

On another note I always tend to want to buy baggy shirts/clothes to 'hide'. Even when some people say oh you can definitely fit into that you're small enough I'm like.... yea there's no way in hell.... and most of the time they're right but still hard to think. I see a small or extra small I automatically think I'm not skinny therefore that's not for me , or I don't think I am anyway

I'm 130 , a size 8 in like pants leggings or other pants medium. Shirts are different I can wear small or medium in those. But because I'm short some pants are too long lol (5'2 🤣) , I'm pretty happy with my weight considering I was at 175 this time last year now I'm back to the weight I was in high school which wasn't that long ago . (Well 7 years but could be longer) I do wish I could have the toned perfect stomach and long legs or my stomach was just idk flatter, not very body positive but I also have BDD...

Size: anywhere from a 16 to a 2X, depending on the brand. US sizing is a friggin' joke! I have a long torso and broad shoulders, plus I wear a size 12 shoe (43 European, about a 10.5 in men's).

So shopping is just... frustrating. I'm typically in between what's considered "normal" and "plus size" - the "normal" stuff isn't quite big enough, typically across the shoulders or across the belly, but the "plus size" stuff assumes I have *ahem* "large tracts of land" to fill out the fronts of shirts, which this cup size B lady most certainly does NOT have. It's not uncommon blouses and shirts that look pleasantly modest on the models to be so low-cut on me it's frankly hilarous.

Shoes are just hilarious - I tend to stick with men size Toms because they fit reliably, and I own exactly two pairs of heels (black velvet wedges and black leather pumps). All of my workout shoes are mens, because apparently women with big feet don't work out? Or have really flat feet? Women's workout shoes inevitably can't handle my high arch.

Also, I find it hilarious I'm the same height as LACKOFWATER and nearly twice the weight - all shapes and sizes, indeed!

I'm a 5'7" elderly woman and currently weigh 205 pounds. I wear a size 14W to 16W and fit nicely into the XL and 1X fashions. I'm actually between a large-size and extra-large size at present. To update my wardrobe, I purchased a number of size large sweaters and they look really nice on me.

All things are possible.

I'm 5'5" and 150 today (a 10-lb loss from starting, woot woot). I was shocked to find that a pair of jeanshorts I bought at the beginning of this journey (that fit me comfortably) were size 14W. I've NEVER worn a 14W. My usual is size 8, and in dress sizes that are fit and flare I was a size 2 about 18 mos ago (I was really into a fitness kick at that time). I'm definitely more slender from the waist up than from the waist down. I can now pull the 14Ws up w/o unzipping/unbuttoning and soon I'll likely need to donate them.

Re: sizing: I read something recently on Huff Post that size 0 would have been a size 5 in the 1970s and the clothing manufacturers have had to keep up with the ever expanding American human's body by increasing the measurements for sizes. The average American man now weighs 194 pounds and woman, 165 pounds. In 2002, the average American woman weighed 153 pounds and in 1994, 147 pounds. I tried on a vintage '50s dress once for a Halloween party and found out that my size 4 (at that time) was actually a 12 in the days of the Fonz.

I think the food industry and the pharma industry are in league to keep us all super sized and on meds. I take no meds at age 58 and except for a sluggish digestion am very healthy, but would still like to lose another 25 lbs (125 is a normal weight for my height).

I've been doing keto/IF for the last three weeks and feel really good on it: lots of energy, no hunger or sugar cravings. I'm also dairy free because my son has some dairy issues. I plan to do strict keto/IF (with my son, age 19) for at least 90 days to see if it makes a difference for him for some minor health issues.

Wherever you are on this journey, this is your life! Make the best of it!!!

I can not only give this for right now, but basically every step along the way of the last 70 pounds/7 sizes.

I'm 5'3, intersex (this means genetically male AND female/in between) but most people would mistake me for female based on the outside of me and doctors use feminine charts for my weight recommendations.

I have a very notable 'buddha belly' so my high hip is the largest part of me, meaning that I usually wear a skirt two sizes smaller than pants and tops 1-2 sizes smaller. I've aggregated sizes together - if at X weight I wore one pair of 24s, one pair of 20s, and five pairs of 22s, then that's a 22 weight.

250 lbs, size 24
235 size 22-20, depending on brand
220 size 20
200 size 18 PLUS SIZES ONLY
190 size 18 STRAIGHT SIZES, 16 plus size
180 size 16 straight sizes, 14 in plus
170 no more plus sized anything fits, wearing a medium/large top and medium panty, size 14 straight size jeans, small/medium dresses IF my boobs fit into them
160 (current): size 12 but the Ralph Lauren ones are rather tight.

I've also gone down in bra size, from a 36DDD to a 34DD. The only thing I haven't had to get new to wear has been shoes.

This was over a period of about nine months or so, and my current goal is 150 before the end of July. After that it'll be 135, then 125 hopefully by Halloween. I'm expecting some difficult plateaus between here and there. If I can actually make it to 125 I'll stop there and consider my health and whether or not I should keep going. Doctors have often told me I should weigh barely 100 pounds.

I'm disabled so I can't do any conventional exercises; cardio would make my heart explode and DOES make my lungs shut down. So I either swim or walk nice and slow with my walker. I imagine most people have no idea and think it's easy, but using a wheelchair is a great workout for your arms, so trust me, when I'm wheeling myself around is probably the MOST intense exercise I get!

I've been on Wellbutrin/Zyban (bupropion) 300mg for ~2 months, and 150mg for the 8 months before that. When necessary, I augment with nicotine patches or caffeine pills to minimize appetite. I tried an 800kCal/day diet for a while WITH A DOCTOR'S APPROVAL AND SUPERVISION because I had over 100 pounds total to lose, but then my gallbladder got quite cross with me, so I had to scale it up, and now I'm about 1200/day, up to 1500/day during "hormone spike" PMS week. My basal metabolic rate is almost exactly 2000kCal so even without forcing dangerous exercise the diet is enough to cause consistent and countable weight loss.

In general speedy and intense dieting can burn about 2 pounds/week but that's not tenable over time so my general goal is 1.5/week.

One of the biggest things I noticed about clothing is that plus sizes have a lot more space BETWEEN sizes. I could gain or lose 15 pounds and still wear the same 22s just fine; now the pants I bought 15 pounds ago literally fall down my body. Straight sizes are much less forgiving; there's only an inch or so of difference between each size.

I’m 5’3 and weigh 135 lbs. I barely wear jeans, because activewear is usually my go to. I buy pants in a medium and shirts in a small (I’m pear shaped), but I wasn’t completely sure about my jean size so I just tried on a bunch of different pants that I have in my closet.

Side story: I actually weighed more in high school than I do now at 23 yrs old. I lost weight by simply changing my diet. I’ve been a pescatarian for 3 years now, but I’m starting to lean more towards making a transition to vegetarianism. So basically... no more seafood. Anyway, here’s my at home “fitting room” experience:

•Ripped knee skinny jeans-Old Navy: *size 12* (fit)
•Jordache jeggings-Walmart: *size 8* (a little loose)
•Legging Jean- Forever 21: *size 26* [women’s size 6] (required work to get over my hips but fit)
•Skin fit denim- Sam’s Club: *size 6* (fit)
•No Boundaries high waist skinny jeans [they have 4 buttons but no zipper]- Walmart: *size 9* [juniors equivalent to women’s size 8] (fit)

Conclusion: activewear and leggings are far less confusing to size lol

This could also go to show you that sizes have, unfortunately, become more forgiving over the years. I remember in the 90s weighing in at 180-190 lbs (at 5'6") and struggling to find size 16s that fit me. On occasion, I could find some 12s and 14s that worked, and it's interesting to read more recent experiences.

I just got weighed yesterday and today at doctors offices and I almost had to laugh cause I weigh 203! I’m 5’5” and I wear a size small in athletic wear like athleta a 6 in lululemon. I have jeans that fit fine from Express and Nordstrom size 6s and size 8s and all my dresses are size 8. Even the P.A. Had to confirm what the scale said. He’s like it says 203 right? I’m like yep! It was an old scale and he started me at 100 and just kept moving the bar up. That just goes to show you that it doesn’t matter what the scale says! I workout 5-6 days a week and I eat healthy most of the time and I’m happy with my body and size. I’m not gonna lie though it still baffles me and is comical what the scale says when I’m on it!

I'm a little different. I am 5'7-5'8 and currently weigh 126 pounds. I am a size 6 in jeans even though I can fit into a size 4 and 2, but I prefer a comfortable fit rather than tight fit. For top, it varies - a lot. I can fit from a size S to a size L. It depends on the clothes itself and the style I want to go for for that top. Honestly, I could care less about the size of my top.

My body type is a little weird. No, I'm not the golden body proportions; in fact, I'm probably the opposite. I have broad shoulders, some chubby stomach, and basically no hips. They call it the "inverted triangle." To me, it's more of a trapezoid with the longer side up.

This body shape is hard to find good clothes since I want to look cute by wearing some off-shoulder, but that accentuates by broad shoulders, making myself look awkward. It's actually hard to find a pretty top, and that's a struggle by itself since people mostly look at tops to determine whether you're dressed clean each day.

Currently, I'm trying to lose weight to 100 pounds, but Sparkpeople won't let me set a goal less than 108; so, it's 108 pounds. Of course, people will say that I'm already thin and shouldn't lose weight, but I want to. Okay, I'm done ranting.

Sizing is such a loaded topic because honestly, women's sizing (in the U.S. at least) doesn't make sense.

I am 5'-3", 162 lbs and in my closet I have clothing from sizes 6-14. I have some 8's that are too big, then I have some 12s that fit fine. On the extreme end, I have at least one skirt in a 6 that fits, but then I have a dress in a 14 that also fits. I have a number of 10s that are way too big, but also some 10s that I can barely zip.

I'd say I wear an 8-10, since that is about the average. I usually wear a larger size in a dress than in jeans because I am fuller in the bust.

Very impressive that so many people are willing to share the number that the scales say. I have never been able to do that. And very impressive, too, that so many of us are being mindful and losing weight. emoticon

A few years ago I was stuck between 200 to 210 and wore medium dresses and size 16 shorts. Unfortunately, I way 288 and I’m in the 20’s. I wear a 2 to 3X in shirts and 20 to 22 in pants (3X in leggings). I’m 5’3 and live in the US. I would love to drop 80 pounds and be happy in my medium to large size clothing again lol.

Most of my weight is my thighs and my stomach. I’m 28 years old.

I can do it!! emoticon

I'm 43 and 5'8" tall. At my highest weight (220 lbs in January 2017) I wore XL clothes and was about a size 16. Today I weigh 135 lbs and wear size 2-4 and XS/S depending on the brand. The strangest thing about losing weight is that my body shape changed so drastically. I've been overweight my entire adult life and my body was always hourglass shaped. Now that I've lost weight, I've (sadly) almost completely lost my butt as well as my hourglass shaped figure. My bra size is 32DD (I wore a 36DD at my highest weight), my waist is 27" and my hips are 36."

I know several people have responded to the person calling people liars already and that they posted that months ago, but I just had to respond haha.

At my highest weight, I was 309 and wearing a size 22-24 (maybe a 26 but they were big). I'm now at 193 and I'm wearing a size 12. Trying to get down to a 10 and be below 190.

Oh, and I'm 33 years old, 5'10" and carry most of my weight, sadly, in my stomach.

It's so sad that there are people who cannot focus on themselves and be positive about others. Putting others down for any reason is unacceptable. Even on the off chance that they are not being completely truthful, that is something they need and will work through as they go through this process. How does that hurt you? Human bodies are different, there are many factors that contribute to what size a person wears. The brand of clothes, the body type, the body frame, muscle mass, age, etc the list goes on. We are all human beings and we all have feelings. What a wonderful world it would be if we could build one another up instead of being jealous or envious of each other or trying to make ourselves feel better by putting someone else down. I've finally learned in my 1/2 century of living, that the way to be happy is to be grateful, make others feel good about themselves and focus on the positive. I truly believe that what goes around comes around and the nicer you are the nicer your life is. To those who may have been hurt by any posts, just believe in yourself and give no energy to those that have been negative. Their negative comments do not matter.

An example on size. My niece and I both weight about 270, and we are both 5' 5". I normally wear 3x and 26 in pants. My niece wears 2x and 1x and is more busty than I am. In pants she wears 22's. and her hips are larger than mine. But I have a larger waist, so my pants are larger. I carry my weight in my stomach and she doesn't. So you can't go by weight and height alone.

I weight 240lbs and 5’7 right now and I wear anywhere from a 12-16 it definitely depends on the jean/pant type but I am going to say I mostly but a 12 stretch. No it is not too snug but if a 16 fits the same I have no issue buying them. I know a lot of people are saying “that’s not real” to other people so I obviously expect the same but yes that’s my size :)

Glad I'm not the only one who reacted strongly to that post, CKOUDSI617. Your response was much more concise than mine, though! :)

But, yes, people are shaped differently, have different body compositions, and wear clothes differently. That can be true of even the same person at different times in their life -- it certainly was true for me.

And as you point out, clothes sizes have changed over time -- I had trouble fitting into a 14 many years ago at the same weight that a 10 was loose on me fairly recently. And different brands are different as well -- which can be frustrating if you're not familiar with how a particular maker sizes things!

So there's basically no point in worrying too much about the size # on the tag (our own or someone else's). Life is hard enough - let's be supportive of one another on this journey! :)

Starting Weight: 268 lbs. (November 2010)
Quasi-Maintenance: 165 lbs. (June 2011)
Goal Weight: 150 lbs. (reached December 8, 2011)

Size 22W to Size 4

Currently maintaining within 5 lbs. (+ or -) of goal. I weigh daily, but also use a tape measure and the fit of my clothes to guage how well I'm doing.

"Disgusting"? REALLY? Hostile much, Sheryllee3? Please, do take some etiquette lessons or stay off these boards! You're not helping ANYone, least of all, yourself! As DJT might Tweet, "Sad..."

Everyone is different, everyone's shape and body type are different. There are some people with high bone density and/or musculature that weigh more but take up less space. I know someone (female) who is 6'1" and over 200 lbs. and she actually wears size 12! (Sometimes 14 though.) It IS entirely possible. I have another friend who is 4'9" and weighs the same as me (about 160). She has to wear tops that are 2X because of her belly size (where she carries most of her excess weight).

You have no way of knowing who's lying and who isn't. (Sorry to state the obvious.) Despite your negativity and lack of manners, I still wish you all the best and hope you find some light on your journey.

Sizes have definitely increased over the years! I have a size 14 pair of jeans from the 80's that I could never even hope to zip up right now, LOL - yet I have a size 8 pair of jeans from a couple of years ago that fit fine!

5 feet 3.5 inches at 159.2 lbs. today. Size is generally 10/12, depending. Mediums are a bit tight and Larges are a bit loose, generally. I have size 8 jeans that fit, but they were expensive and I'd guess they run larger. My "XL" winter coat from last year is "swimming" on me; so I switched to the "L" I have and I can wear a heavy sweater (or two) under it with the zipper and all the snaps fastened and I still have room.

We CAN do this; so let's GO!

At 267.7 I was wearing 3x and 26 pants. I am 5'3"
I now hovering at am 230 and I wear 1x or xl shirt and can wear a large but it it snug. I am wearing 20 or 22 pants. Some 20's are snug.

I have size 18 pants from 16 years ago and they are way smaller then the 20s.

Sizing varies from different companies. How people carry weight varies. If you workout a lot you will weight more but be thinner.

1 pound of muscle weight the same as 1 pound of fat. The muscle takes up much less space though.

I carry my weight is what they consider and apple shape and am top heavy.

I went from a 50 to 44 band size. The cups on the brand I have been buying are a 3d. If I buy the good bras I measure an H. I don't like the tightness of the 44 so I wear the 46. The lady measured me at 44h. I did not like the fit of those.

Sorry for the long post, but suggesting that other people are "lying" because your experience with weight vs. size is a little different seems more than a bit harsh. The reality is, people really DO carry weight differently, and thus can wear vastly different sizes at different weights. It can also really depend on who made the clothes, and how they're cut.

I am 5'7", and 45 years old. In my profile pic, I am wearing a fitted, non-stretch Banana Republic size 2 dress... and I weighed just under 150 pounds (I think I weighed in at 149.5 that day). That dress was honestly just a bit snug (and was intended to be), but I could breathe/move just fine. The pic was taken on New Year's Eve 2012 and I wore that dress all night through a multicourse dinner and dancing afterward, and was comfortable throughout. (Oh, those pre-kid New Years' Eves!)

For comparison, I often took a 2 or XS in Athleta (I had a LOT of their stuff - everything I'm wearing in the vacation photos saved to my profile is Athleta 2/XS), but for suits/work attire (Brooks Brothers, J. Crew, mostly) I mostly wore size 4's at goal weight (~150), but had to have the waist taken in on most of them - my hips are a little wide, so typically needed a 4 to accommodate them - though I could often do a 2 in a "fit and flare" cut skirt/dress, for example. I'm a lawyer - so wear suits or "dressy" fitted clothes for work, mostly - you can't really "fudge" those sizes much. I was even a size 0(!) in most Gap clothes (and a few others with generous sizing). Some brands I liked (like J. Jill) I had trouble finding anything at all that wasn't too big. (Seriously.) On the other hand, in very high end stuff, I took a larger size - sometimes as "large" as an 8. Not that I bought too much "high end" stuff, but just pointing out that "designer" sizes are much smaller than what you would buy off the rack even at nicer retail stores. My point is that I could wear a 0 or an 8 at the very same weight (again that was 150), depending on who made the clothes.

I had not planned to stop at 150, by the way, but I started to look "too thin" when I got much below that. I was very surprised that I was so small at 150 - though if I was being picky, I would have liked my legs to thin out a bit more (you can see from my pics they are on the heavy side) -- but the extra weight was coming off my boobs/face, and NOT my legs, so it was not looking flattering. So I decided to live with it. Probably will this time as well, unless my legs cooperate this time!

For an objective opinion, my cardiologist described me (at 150 pounds), without any irony, as "a very small person." He was right! I have a rather small, although apparently heavy, frame! Nurses NEVER guessed right (or even close) when I weighed in, and were always surprised at how much I actually weighed vs. what I looked like.

I am back here at Spark now to lose my pregnancy weight (my 2nd baby was born in May - and I gained a LOT of weight, due in part to needing hormone therapy to sustain the pregnancy, and due to being in a month long trial at 6/7 months pregnant, with 18 hour days, bad food, and no exercise). I am 185 today (after (re)losing 40 pounds!). Right now I'm very comfortably wearing size 10 fitted pants and a medium top and sweater (all J. Jill - which does run a little big), and suits are in the 10/12 range (12 for Brooks Bros/Eileen Fisher, 10 for J. Crew/Ann Taylor).

Even how the same weight looks on the SAME PERSON can vary over time. I am a bit smaller now than last time I reached 185 in 2011 (I can tell by the clothes I'm pulling from my archives), but not by a lot. But when I first hit 185 (gaining weight) years ago, a 14 was very tight, and I mostly wore 16s. I recall I was definitely still a bit over 200 when I got my first pair of size 14 Lucky Brand jeans last time (2011), and only very slightly under for my first 12s. This time I was still on maternity leave at that weight - but my XL yoga pants were falling off well before I hit 200 lbs. But "back in the day" when I first hit 200 pounds, I was in an 18 (at least, sometimes larger), and couldn't DREAM of fitting into a 14.

This was all just a (very) long way of saying - don't get so hung up on the numbers, either on the scale or on your clothing tags (or measuring tape), and ESPECIALLY don't get too hung up on someone else's numbers. I know women especially feel a lot of pressure to be "smaller" (and indeed I've found myself feeling embarrassed for weighing "so much" even while wearing a size 2!) - but frankly, the numbers don't say anything about your value as a human being. (Yes, I do realize the irony of saying “don’t focus on the numbers” when I can report what size I wore at what weight pretty much all the way back to my teens – I am definitely guilty of worrying too much about my size/weight as well!)

Let's cheer each other on as we reach our goals, not tear each other down. I am truly thrilled for each and every person who reaches a new goal/milestone - whether that's finally getting down to a 4X after years barely squeezing into 5X, finally getting down to “one-derland” on the scale, or finally taking off the "extra 10 pounds" to fit into their skinny jeans from high school. And I'm going to be thrilled for myself when I get back into my pre-pregnancy clothes again (soon!). But we all deserve each other’s' respect along the journey.

SHERYLLEE3 hahahaha, to your post about people lying about what size they take! That cracked me up because I weigh 174 and I am 5'5" and I take size 14/16 trousers. So bravo!!! I started out at 218 pounds and I sure didn't take a size 14/16 pair of pants then!

I depends on where the clothes are bought. I am 5'4 and currently at 231 lbs. I buy the majority of my clothes online at Avenue and wear a 14/16 dress and 16 pants. However, if I buy something online at Roman, the 16 is very, very big. Kohl's---I can't even begin to think of a 14 OR a 16 in anything. At Walmart the Faded Glory pullover shirts, I wear a 2x-3x.
