Linda,

Mistakes happen to us all. You're not a machine who can be perfect 24/7. Whatever happen can always be fixed on Monday. No need to make yourself sick. If you are feeling a little anxious, take a long walk. Walking is not only great cardiovascular exercise, it's a great way to reduce stress too.

That's great news, Linda !

Remember, you don't have to do a lot to be healthy. Just start with some simple changes and they really can be as simple as eating more veggies at your meals, taking a daily walk and drinking more water. Every little bit DOES make a difference.

The cup is half full, not empty.

The flood is receding, that is great news! We are no longer stranded on an island. My mom is back in hospital though. Trying really hard not to be so stressed, to eat better and move more. Definitely not easy but this has got to happen. One day at a time ...

What does "concentrating" on weight loss mean? Do you think eating differently, or doing things differently is a stress, and you can't handle that stress on top of the other things?

Imagine applying the same logic to other things in life. Isn't work a stress? How about this line: "I need to wait until everything is normal and going smooth before I a can go to work."

I wish I had answers. I seem to have only questions.

When there is so much going on such as you have described, most people would be stressed to the hilt. Take a deep breath, and just do what you can and let the rest go.

Does your Mum have any treatment (therapy or medication) for her anxiety? If she does, it needs reviewing.

Hugs.
Kris

LindaAnn, life is good! Your mother is out of the hospital and doing well. Your house is safe from the flood. Your work was moving anyway, now you just get to be more efficient about it. And the flood waters will recede.

Celebrate by eating well.

Linda,

Just take things one day at a time. If you try to do everything at once, you will continue to be frustrated. If you keep waiting for the right moment to take care of yourself, it's never going to happen.

You don't have to do a lot to start taking better care of yourself. One simple thing you can do to reduce stress is to take a walk. Walking is not only great wonderful cardiovascular exercise, it's a great way to reduce stress too.

Sometimes, just sitting and taking a few big deep breathes really can help. There are many simple changes you could make that will help you start being more healthy.

you can take a daily 30 minute walk.
you can eat a small leafy green salad with lunch or dinner.
you can eat an extra serving of veggies at lunch or dinner.
you can sit and sip a cup of tea instead of having a can of soda.
you can eat a piece of fruit for a snack instead of chips.

I've said this before multiple times,"Stop thinking about good health or weight loss with an all or nothing mentality". If the only healthy thing you did for yourself today was drink 8 glasses of water, that's still a step in the right direction.

Stop running away after you've posted a thread. Please, reply. It's difficult to support you when you leave a post and don't come back. We want to help you, but you have to want to help yourself.

Take some deep calming breaths and listen to some nice music or sounds; whales, ocean waves, whatever you enjoy.

There's nothing that can be done about the flooding or the job moving. We will always face stress and the only thing we can change is how we deal with it. Sometimes we think we're dealing with it just fine, but our body says otherwise. That's where the calming/soothing music/sounds and deep breathing come in.

Have any of your mother's doctor's discussed her diet causing anxiety? I've recently been researching the connection of diet and anxiety. Perhaps you can research it and help your mom change her diet to help with her anxiety and avoid hospital visits/stays and in turn help you not to worry about her. =)

Much success to you.

2018 continues to be full of challenges and not so pleasant surprises... first of all, my mom ended up back in hospital, this time due to a severe anxiety attack. 6th time to hospital this year with a stay. A lot going on personal wise with her which affects the rest of the family as well. Anyway, she is out again and doing a bit better but I am always worried for her as she lives 1/2 hr away and lives alone. We are in the middle of a flood as well, thank God I don’t live close enough to the water to affect my house but I have some friends that are affected. I live in a very small community that is surrounded by water and we are not able to get in or out because roads are flooded and expected to be for another few days to a week. Feeling kind of clausterphobic not being able to get anywhere if needed. My work place is moving locations and we had to move sooner than expected because of flood and now cannot get to new place as roads are flooded getting there. I don’t deal that well with stress on a good day, just seems like a lot going on. I know I shouldn’t but I use food to deal with stress... I keep sabotaging myself, making excuses. I for some reason in my head seem to think I need to wait until everything is normal and going smooth before I can concentrate on weight loss. How stupid does that sound ? Just another excuse I know, I just cannot seem to make my head think any other way right now.
