We heat with a woodstove, and sometimes when I wake up it is 59 degrees in the house. It is 63 right now, and I totally get not wanting to drink water. Green tea is my best friend. I have a small pot, and I put one green tea bag and 2 cups of water.

Here are some other things I do
- hot water with lemon juice and sometimes with I add honey.
- hot cocoa made with cashew milk. 25 calories for 1 C milk, 12 calories for 1 Tbs cocoa powder, 45 calories for 1 Tbs. sugar = 82 calories overall.
- chai rooibos made with 1/2 hot water, 1/2 C cashew milk for 13 calories, and 2 tsp sugar for 22 calories for 35 calories all together, and no caffeine.

When it is cold most people find that they want to eat/drink more. When I realized it was really just wanting something to make me feel warmer, I changed from having that something to eat that I really didn't want, to having that warm drink. A cup of tea didn't cut it, so in the cooler times I have a coffee with soy milk (dairy food intolerance) or a milky hot chocolate instead of the cup of tea I would have had. The hot choc is about 1/3 milk and the rest water, and I don't add extra sweetening as it is already slightly sweetened. That also works in cooler times when I might be feeling just a tiny bit peckish and starting to need something, but I don't really want to eat.

You may also need to revise what you actually DO eat for your meals. I use a high quality, high fibre bread, but don't eat it very often. I find that it isn't as filling as other choices I may have, e.g. I make a lot of meat patties which have veges and pulses in them. One about the size of the palm of my hand is about 200 calories. Yesterday I took one, along with 3x 80g serves of fruit, nectarine, pear and apple. I found that quite filling. I always have an afternoon snack, and as I was out all day, on the go, I had my Protein Nut Bar (156 calories) with me. That worked really well (and much better than any sandwich would have) until I had my dinner.

I have some flank steak, Carrot souffle and a serving if mac and cheese that I'm patiently waiting to eat for dinner when I get hungry again. I have pineapple to snack if its not late enough. I really don't want to go home and eat another dinner and go over my calories. I work 12 hour shifts, so 90 % of my meal times are usually at work, breakfast on the way in, and lunch an dinner while I'm here.

STARGAZER838,

Take a deep breathe. Remember, you're not a machine who can eat right 24/7. You're a normal human being with normal human needs. The fact is, you can not force your body to do what you want. Over time, as you learn to live a healthier lifestyle, you will learn to listen to your body's signals.

What to do ? First off, don't beat yourself up because you're hungry ! If you're craving junk, let's be proactive. Are you craving comfort foods because you haven't been eating nourishing meals or because someone left cookies out in the kitchen. if it's cold out and you need to warm your bones, sit and sip a hot cup of tea.

some times hunger isn't really hunger, but thirst. When it gets cold out, it's also gets dry. People don't drink enough water and when that happens, they start craving food. Do make sure you're drinking plenty of water and if it's too cold to drink plain water, have some hot tea.

Give yourself more credit for all the positive things you did do this week and stop beating yourself up because you're not perfect. stop trying to be perfect. you don't have to be perfect to be healthy.

What to do ? If you feel that you're eating a little too much comfort food, how about making some healthy comfort food ? have some home made tomato soup with a wedge of toasted bread. Think about all the yummy healthy hot meals you can make as this cold front moves through.

The fact is, the world doesn't stop for the cold weather. Are you going to say you can't do anything in 90 degree heat ? Good health isn't all or nothing. Every little bit does make a difference.

So, tell me, what are some healthy comforting foods you could make for meals or snacks ? I made a yummy squash/sweet potato stew to warm my bones.

Try to move your body to warm up. Walk a few laps around the office or doing some jumping jacks, if you can.

You don't have to eat the whole thing.

I was doing really well for the first 5 days. It was warm in the facility I work in. Then the cold front came and dropped to 27 degrees outside and it's 55/65 inside. All I want to do is eat and eat and eat when I KNOW I dont need to! I wonder if it's a 'hibernation thing' eating to stay warm. I don't know. I've already eaten a 2 oz bag of cheetos and I really want to go back for chocolate thinking I will warm up. I thought I would struggle to drink my water like I did yesterday but I'm already halfway to my goal. I at my sandwich already and it wasn't even lunch time! Now I'll be eating dinner earlier and I'm just like ugh! I wish it wasn't payday, the money has already been budgeted for other things. That doesn't stop me that way the Market wouldn't be so tempting to get foods I don't need from!
