If you are doing exercises to loose weight, consider this, you muscles, even when dormant, are the things that burn most of the calories.

So what about muscle toning? Light weights, pushups, bicep curls ... I'm not talking heavy heavy weights, but just enough that you can do whatever it is about 10 times in a row, and about 15 is too much.

Situps for example.

Here is an old (1967) pamphlet from "The Royal Canadian Air Force". 10 basic exercises to do that need no equipment. Careful with anything that uses your knees.

Google XBX, or "Ten basic exercises canada" or things like that, but here is a link to a pamphlet:

I rested my knee today and made an appointment to see my doctor. I expect to have to get the gel injections that I got last year.

I know my friends who have had knee replacement swear by using the stationary bike as exercise. I also have arthritis in my knee and when it gets bad I go back to some water walking and or swimming. Hope you feel better soon.

I can do it!!

I did not know about the seated exercises that are available here at SP. Thanks for responding to my post, and thanks for all of your helpful suggestions.

FINALE01,

If your knee is bothering you, definitely take it easy. If you check out the fitness section, Coach Nicole has several upper body workouts that can be done while sitting in a chair. If you'd like something more advanced, do a search on youtube for seated workout. Some of those workouts can be very vigorous.

If you can't work your lower body muscles, then you work your upper body muscles. Maybe you wont burn the same amount of calories, but that's not why you're exercising. Exercise helps keep our bodies fit. Exercise helps increase lean muscle which in turn helps us to be more efficient at burning fat.

If you're trying to lose weight, you need to be mindful of what you eat. Good nutrition and portions control take the weight off and keep it off.

You can lose weight without exercise. it's just a matter of paying close attention to what you eat. So, don't worry if you can't exercise for a few days because of your knee injury. instead, do some upper body workouts and try your best to eat right.

Knee injuries are the worst, so you need to be careful if you don't want to deal with surgery later.

I suggest either resting up, or doing upper body seated exercises. If the pain/discomfort lasts more than a couple days, make an appointment with your Dr to rule out something more serious.

Check out the Seated Exercise videos here on Spark...! Work on your Upper body strength, your core...and there is even a cardio one. Also check into resistance band exercises. I used all of the above following foot surgery...just modify and skip what your knee won't allow you to do....

Hope you heal quickly...if not, perhaps time to check in with your Doctor to make sure its not a different issue!

I've been using my treadmill as my only source of exercise, but my old knee injury just flared up. I was finally making progress with the amount of time I was walking, now, what can I do for exercise until my knee feels better. I don't have access to a gym, a pool or a bike.
