(If I've gotten THAT dirty (and my gardening/trailwork sometimes does that to me), I take a shower *before* going to bed--LOL)

Whereas hormones do cause some bloating, and extra physical weight prior to menses, for many of us it was too easy to "blame" our period...when what was really going on was the emotional effects and our inappropriate response of eating too much comfort food.....! So while women don't need to *panic* it is wise to focus on what is actually happening, and decide how you will respond. Pack on a half to a pound a month( or more) that doesn't go away, and it doesn't take long for your scale to rebel!

emoticon I'm not that dirty! I too weigh naked after using the toilet in the morning. I also try to weigh around the same time because another trip to the toilet gives a false low.

I weigh myself just out of the shower in the mornings, not because of dirt but it's just convenient since I'm already naked :). This is after a cup of tea, a workout, and however much water I've drunk post-workout; but prior to eating anything.

TOM I've only noticed a pound or fraction of for the several years I've been tracking. I'm getting older now and closer to when that part of my life will be over, so things are not as regular as they once were, and the pound can show up when I'm not expecting it and so I may not be recognizing it as the culprit.

Keen to be lean in 2018!

When I weigh, I always weigh in the morning after using the toilet and without any clothes. I feel it gives me the lowest and most accurate weight no matter my cycle.

I am fairly certain whatever dust or dirt I may have on my body is going to be so minuscule, we're talking micrograms, that taking a shower seems silly. I think that the water in my hair, towel dried or not, probably weighs more than a teeny, tiny bit of dirt. Maybe you were kidding with that?

Yep, even things like clothes, food in your stomach and a full bladder can make a difference. I always try to do my weigh-ins first thing in the morning after going potty but before eating or drinking anything or putting on any potentially heavy (especially in winter) clothes/shoes. Gives the lightest as well as most accurate weight. If you really wanna be sure, do it fresh out of the shower so you aren't getting the weight of any dirt you might have otherwise (but be sure to wring all the water out of your hair first, don't want any external water weight either)!

During my cycle, I can easily gain or lose as much as 5-7 pounds during the week.

Also, not to get TMI, but my weight can vary as much as 2-3 pounds in a day because of waste products aka poop. Most people don't realize, if they don't have a decent bowel movement before they weigh themselves in the morning, that the physical weight of the food, water and waste products can cause the scale to go

Not only will hormones cause our weight to go up, but so will the physical weight of all the food and water we eat during the day. The number of times we have or not have a bowel movement during the day.

If people don't believe me, weigh yourself before and after a significant bowel movement (poop). Did you lose weight ? yes ! did you lose fat ? nope. it's nothing more than a normal weight fluctuation that passes (literally) in a few days.

You may have heard that it's normal to gain "a couple pounds" just before TTOM. But I want to tell you gaining more than a couple pounds can be normal too. On November 27 I weighed 151.2. But a week later on December 4 I was dismayed to find not only had I not lost anything, I had GAINED 2 whole pounds! Where had I gone wrong? Was I being visited by the ghost of Thanksgiving (very recent) past? But then December 7 my Aunt Flo arrived and I realized something probably just sent some of her baggage ahead a few days early. And today it is December 12, my "Aunt" has returned to the netherworld from whence she came, and in just 1 week I have magically lost nearly 6 pounds at 147.4. Hormones are great. emoticon
