James, I love what you said. And Dolphinflier, I think you are showing awareness of making mindful choices about food. That is wonderful progress.

Rest assured, life is stressful for most everyone. You can learn healthier habits in dealing with it. You seem to be aware of it. Now, to practice making better choices in dealing with it. Treats are fine once in awhile. But, as you know, they aren't a good way to deal with stress.

DOLPHINFLYER,
so glad you've come back.

Food and weight loss is very complicated. There are the social sides, and there are the biochemical sides.

Honestly, I think that weak willpower is mostly our biochemical makeup calling on us. It doesn't mean a lifetime of fighting urges though. Change what you eat and those urges change. I think lots of people know what their food triggers are. Mine is cookies, cake and chocolate, and I'm a diabetic.

On the social side it is things like:
- I'll offend them if I don't eat their dessert
- I can't go to the bar and not drink beer
- I did something good, I deserve a treat

But really, if you ask yourself the question "am I hungry?", and only eat if you are hungry, that is a huge step.

I was actually afraid that this would start that, "I ate this so I can eat that" mindset.

But it didn't. So far so good!

Life is just so stressful, I just wish I didn't "want" to turn to food.

It's the first time I have ate something that is "fried" since I started this journey. We don't even have any food that is tempting in the house. Because my will power just isn't that strong yet.

Congrats on the weight loss! 15.5 pounds is great progress!

So, I am thinking the eating to alleviate stress is the old you. You are working on the new you and are on a healthy living journey.

Oh, and there is nothing wrong with eating a funnel cake! They are a delicious treat. The trick is to learn how to work it into your daily calorie allotment. And don't eat one every day.

What can you learn to do to combat stress instead of eat? Exercise, meditate, talk with a friend or family member, take a walk, pet your dog or at (if you have one), etc, etc, etc.

I don't see how you are going backward. I lost a lot of weight but I didn't do it by depriving myself. I still had my treats, and I can remember going totally overboard on the odd occasion. The trick is that it IS only an odd occasion.

I have been maintaining for a few years, now, too. I always watch (weigh food and use Nutrition Tracker) what I eat (easy for me to do) but I still over-indulge on occasion. It has had absolutely no negative impact on my journey, and in fact, I am a firm believer that it can actually help you on you journey because you are far less to feel deprived, which is a major reason why people tend to fall off the wagon.

I wouldn't want to be losing weight any faster than that. Slow losses are far more likely to stay off. My first 50lb loss took 16 months .... about ¾ lb per week. As a result I didn't have any flabby, baggy, hanging skin that often happens with quick weight losses.

15.5 pounds down in 2 months (so just over 8 weeks) is just under 2 pounds a week, and that is absolutely fantastic. It just can't be done faster than that, so a big pat on the back to you.

Also being upset with yourself over a slip up is much better than falling of the wagon. You are not thinking "I ate this, so I might as well eat ..."

You are doing great.

So how are you going backwards? Did you gain all the weight back?
I think you are doing fine!

So I started this journey to lose weight 2 months ago. I've lost 15.5 pounds during that time...But I feel so stressed right now all I want to do is eat.

I went to our local fair yesterday and what did I do? I ate a funnel cake!!! The whole thing. That being said, we walked over 3 miles. I just had to vent. Now I gotta get back on track...
