If you love to bake, then do it, but bake healthful foods. My daughter is learning to bake and cook, so she does some baking but we don't do cakes or large batches. We bake whole wheat (or half) scones, pretzels, rolls etc. Scones are amazing for getting that sweet treat sensation without so much sweet. I have found recipes for whole wheat scones on SP that don't hurt calorie counts too much and even some other recipes aren't too bad. Add a just little bit of clotted cream or butter and raspberry preserves and it is so nice!

I try fasting whenever I start craving too much food in a short period of time. Not only does that help me not eat the baked goods - it makes me lose a ton of weight quickly as well :)

About to reach my goal weight :) fatburninginstitute.com/

You can look up recipes for for mug brownie or chocolate cake--cooking a single serving in a coffee mug in the microwave. They only take a few minutes to throw together. I love mug cakes because they are hot and gooey, so really satisfy those fresh-baked cravings.

1/2 cup Fiber One cereal does it for me! I eat it like a snack. My friends and co-workers make fun and call it "hamster food" but it sure does keep me away from the office donuts and bagels! Bonus? LOTS of fiber and it's whole grain. It's sweet enough for me as is. There's all kinds of gluten-free stuff out now that's halfway decent and lower carb - maybe try some of those options? All the best!

We CAN do this!

I'm a low carb guy, so I don't eat bananas for another reason. A medium banana has 25 grams of carbs, its weight is about 20% carbs.

I do make pancakes and other things from protein powder as a flour substitute. Its not so much that I "crave" baked things, but they have a certain mouth feel.

I just had protein powder pancakes for breakfast, less that 0.5 grams of carbs per pancake. Normally a pancake has about 10 grams of carbs. Send me a spark note, I'm happy to chat.

James

Also, I love to bake, so I basically have to save that for special occasions only, when I know I can give away the baked goods...

You guys are so right! That is the mindset to keep. I do try to hold out for really good quality foods! And I eat a ton of fruit every day, who knew a banana packed 124 calories a punch? But so much more filling is the banana, eh?

I made it past my craving! I agree that seeing the calorie count at the counter is a big deterrent.

What triggered me was an overnight stay at a B&B with hot chocolate chip scones for breakfast.

I love blueberry muffins and chocolate chip cookies and cheese cake ... and what keeps me from digging in and giving way to the urge is a trip to Starbuck's or Peets or another chain where they now post calories per serving. My favorite blueberry muffin is from the Cheesecake Factory - it has 450 calories. That's a 1/3 of my daily calories staying on the low side. Cheesecake (also Cheesecake Factory) is double.
I love it but it has to be a splurge day for sure.

What helps is a trip to a place where I can buy a single chocolate square (bookstores are great) or Lindor ball. Then I savor it. When I give in I just want more.

I agree totally with Archimedes tho - since DD now get's their donuts delivered they simply are not worth the calories. We have only one bakery near us - and not too near that does a good job and usually we get an apple fritter - split it in 4 and my husband and I share it over 2 days. No idea what the calorie count in even the 1/4 is and honestly don't wanna know.

There is nothing like fresh fried grease and sugar to get the appetite going. Best to avoid it.

KIMOKIKO,

One thing that helps me is only eating exceptionally baked muffins or treats. If I decide I'd like a muffin, it has to come from a good quality bakery or homemade. the supermarket premade muffins are junk. I wont eat those anymore.

It's like a Dunkin Donuts donut. When they used to be made at the locations, they were wonderful. Now they are prefab and taste horrible. Why would I want to waste 350 calories on junk like that ? So if I am going to eat a donut or muffin, it had better be really great. If not, I wont touch it.

What also helps is eating more fresh fruit for snacks. I snack on 2-3 pieces of fruit per day. There was a time when I'd eat 2-3 candy bars ! no more. I just had slices of pear with a little bit of peanut butter. I eat fruit regularly and as a result, I rarely crave muffins, cookies or cake.

Try increasing the amount of fresh fruit you eat. It will help reduce your cravings.

I don't know, that's a good question. If I eat anything with high sugar, I get sick (headache, nausea).

Depends on you!

Some people need to give up sweets entirely until they get their sugar addiction under control.
Some people can have one serving, and successfully work that into their calories for the day.

Which one are you?

What do you do to stay on track when you battle a craving for baked goodies. I love muffins and cookies, but I am working hard on my weight loss goals..
