Hello, I just wanted to let you know that I also found tracking food very hard because I don't like a lot of different food. But I am able to track what I do eat and real quick now. I added into my favorites and groups all of the food that I do eat. Now I just go in and make my menu for the day. I like a lot of Sandwiches So I have groups for each kind of sandwich that I eat. My breakfast foods are all in groups. It took time to do this of course but if you add the items in each time you do a meal that you know you will do again, it becomes easier each day. When I try something new that I know I will eat again I add it to my favorites or the group. It use to take me about an hour a day to do my tracking, now it takes about 10 mins. I use the pie chart at the bottom and watch the calories to make sure I stay within my healthy eating range. If you need more help you can spark meal me and I will be more than willing to help ou out.

Will It be easy? no Worth It? Absolutely!!! Believe that you can do it and you will do it!

Yes! You have to pay careful attention to that MEAL button.

There are a couple of things I don't care for in the food tracker. It it doesn't automatically reset to breakfast the next day Even if you go add food to breakfast if snack was the last category used snack it will be. Happens with every meal. I'm not sure why this is.

I find my motivation to eat well in other things.

I want to be healthy, I want to loose weight. It isn't one tool in one place.

You have a choice to turn off the pre-planned menus. With them off, then you don't have to delete and re-enter foods you do eat! I agree with Archimedesii: try tracking just one meal for awhile.

-- Be SURE to save the foods you log into your "Favorites" however!! Then you can easily find them again, and just change the serving size.... (Hint: if you ate it in the last few days, it will also show up under "Recent"!)
--Once you get a data base set up, and realize that you can enter, delete, change, reenter, the items....it becomes kind of fun actually.
-- You can also 'pre-track' your meal...and if the calories or macros are too much or too little...you can change the serving size or add or delete foods.

Be patient, and don't give up!! I'm a Grandma also...and if I can do it, so can you!! Remember: "Old Age and Treachery will Win Every Time over Youth and Ignorance" Keep at it---you've no doubt accomplished many good things in your years, and this is just a minor irritation. (If all else fails...do you have a 10year old who you can convince to help you??--LOL) All the best,
patti

GRANDMA157,

You don't have to use the spark nutrition tracker in order to log your food choices. You could write down your choices in a notebook. Logging food is a visual aid to help you learn to be more mindful of the food you eat.

Perhaps you're trying to do too much too soon. Instead of logging everything, why not start by logging one meal each day. How about breakfast ? For one week, you log what you ate at breakfast. You can log it in the Spark tracker or you could write it down.

Example, for breakfast

1 small bowl of shredded wheat with a half a sliced banana, 1 half cup of 2% milk and a small cup of coffee. 1 slice of whole wheat toast with two pats of butter.

Keep logging breakfast each day for one week. The next week, maybe you log breakfast and lunch. Eat week, you add another meal or snack. This will help you to slowly ease into learning how to log everything for the day. And yes, I know how overwhelming it can be. But you may find that starting with one meal helps you stay more motivated.

If you try to do too much too soon, you'll end up frustrated. Try logging just one meal for one week and see how you do. If logging does seem like too much, then why not set a simple goal. If you're not eating 6-9 servings of fresh fruit and veggies, set a goal to eat 2-3 servings each day for one week. If you're not drinking 8 glasses of water, set a goal to drink 2-4 glasses each day for one week.

Can you do that ? Can you eat 2-3 servings of fresh fruit and veggies ? Can you drink 2-4 glasses of water ? Can you take a 15-20 minute walk ? If so, then you can lose the weight.

The food tracker is a tool you can use that could help you to lose. There are lots of other tools you can use too like setting a simple daily goal.

Curious...
What DO you eat that is not in the tracker?
The tracker is loaded with meats, and vegetable, and fruits, etc.

It is tedious, I guarantee. But it gets easier with time. Tracking is key for me. I have done it for 12 years, have lost and kept off over 100 pounds. Tracking is key.

I had back issues and surgery and quit tracking. Thought I could do it in my head. Gained 30 pounds. Still have kept 118 off, but am back to tracking and have lost five of my regain already.

I hope you can learn to tolerate it.
