I am really sorry to hear of your boyfriend's recent diagnosis. It must have been a real shock for you both ... still a shock.

I suggest that apart from accepting that sometimes all our best laid plans re nutrition may be interrupted at various times, you are not to go beating yourself up for it should it happen to you.

When my late husband was having one of his very many sudden trips to hospital, I was often in the Emergency Department for long periods of time until he was admitted to a ward. I always have some easy store, portable food in my handbag for emergencies, and as I walk out the door I always chucked some fruit, nuts and yoghurt into my bag. I would eat the yoghurt first. It certainly beats buying rubbish.

The other thing I will suggest is something for both of you to do. Join a Cancer Support group, particularly one that is related to his cancer. You will find lots of support from others who have been through the same thing.

Hugs,
Kris

Thanks so much everyone. Believe that I have noted EVERY suggestion and will incorporate them into this new journey. I appreciate you all giving me a little "anchor" to hold onto from a group I value very much!

Plan to not be able to follow your plan. So if you anticipate some time in waiting rooms plan to walk the corridors or around the building. Do toe lifts or squats while doing dishes or laundry or gardening. Make a list of better options at the fast food places you tend towards, grab and go options at the grocery store, and meal delivery options (whatever service is in your area). If you have a list then you simply have to pick from the list, not figure out what's out there. Batch cook as you can and freeze in one or two person portions. You don't have to do a whole month or anything, but making four casseroles isn't much more effort than making one. Do this a few times and then you just have to reheat whatever option you want.

Spark is a great place to reach out, but ask about local support groups in your area. And ask for help from the support group you already have. If you find yourself struggling with something don't be afraid to mention that thing when someone says "if there is anything I can do for you." I am probably too great of a fan of lists, but note what you struggle with in the moment and refer back to it when you need to. I keep a note in the front cover of my planner for concerns I want to bring up to my doctor at my checkup. I would do the same in this situation.

-google first. ask questions later.

My "live together" boyfriend (read: serious relationship) was diagnosed with eye cancer yesterday. He is only 41 and we are waiting to see if it is anywhere else. I'm trying hard to keep up with my food and exercise, but I know I may falter. One thing that keeps me going strong is I just committed to a Healthy Wage and if I lose 50# by September 28th I will earn $2100 from that website. We have planned a trip to New Orleans to celebrate. Now more than ever I want to have that experience with him. I guess I'm just looking for tips from anyone who has been there as well as prayers, good vibes, or whatever fills your heart with joy from anyone willing.
Thank you fellow Sparkers!
