Hello everyone,

I'm brand new to this group. I have a good tip on how to stay motivated. Do monthly challenges. Here is an example of one. This is what the challenge group that I lead on the message boards here on the Spark People site. I hope this helps motivate you to stay motivated. Keep pushing play.

SEPTEMBER 2018 STEP IT UP CHALLENGE INFORMATION GUIDE:

Hello everyone,

Here is our September 2018 challenge information guide. Please let me know if you have any questions. In this months challenge we will get ready for our hardest challenge of the year. Our annual Temptation and Terror Challenge. In our October challenge there is no candy or sweets at all for the whole month of October 2018. We will also have a picture costume contest. More information on our October challenge information guide to come soon. Stay tuned. So with this being said here is what you need to know for our September challenge.

ABOUT THIS MONTHS CHALLENGE: For the whole month we will work on giving up junk food and all foods that are unhealthy/bad for us to have. You have to decide what kinds of these foods that you know you need to give up or limit for the whole month of September. We will be setting up for ourselves goals to help us along the way.
Each day we will be keeping daily food logs/daily journals to help us stay on track. If you mess us no worries. Things like that happen. Here is how your journal should look. Please let me know if you have any questions.

DAILY JOURNAL: Your daily journal should include the following information.
(1) Your daily food intake and weekly goals like I am going to work on giving up for example soda for a whole week or a whole month. I will only drink water for a whole month/week.
(2) Your daily workout. Include what you did as far as your workouts are concerned. For example today I walked 2 miles with Leslie Sansone.
(3) How I felt today. For example. Today I had a good day today. Trying to work on my daily stress for the day.
Each day you will post your daily journal so we can all help each other motivate each other to do better. No worries here in the Step it up challenge. You don't have to do anything you don't feel comfortable doing.

DAILY WORKOUT PLAN: Create for yourself your own daily workout plan. Your plan must include taking at least one day off as a rest day. And it also must include two to three times a week strength training. At the end of the month remember that your total miles are due.

That's all the information you need to know for the September challenge. Please invite all that you feel needs more motivation to get up and move. Please tell them to join our page. It would be great if we can get more people to join our group.

Start where you are and make one or two changes at a time. So for the first two weeks you might focus on adding one serving of fruit and one cup of water a day. Give yourself a good two weeks focusing on those two things and then evaluate. If the water is easy for you now, pick a new focus like spending five minutes a day exercising. If eating an additional serving of fruit is still difficult, give it another week or two to build up other options and habits. Slowly but surely change what you are doing, one or two things at a time.

-google first. ask questions later.

Honestly, the best thing for you to do now is just start. It sounds like you have done a little research on weight loss, which is a great way to be informed. Now, you just have to start doing it. It's really difficult at first, but eventually you get into it and it becomes routine. One thing that helped me stay motivated at the beginning was just taking a minute after my exercises and thinking about how I actually did something compared to just thinking about doing it. You don't necessarily need to have a personal best workout in order to feel accomplished. Just the fact that you are doing something is a win. Keep that in mind and you will start seeing positive results.

What has worked for me has been to work on one thing like exercise. I can see success with that with weights fairly quickly which helps to motivate me. Then I add food next. For me it does not work to give up everything. It has to be something that you are willing to do for many years. Hope this gives you some ideas. Good Luck

I have such a hard time getting motivated to actually eat right and exercise. Does anyone have tips on how to get motivated past looking up the information on how to loss weight?
