I hope you will sit down and think a bit more about what your real goal is, and what your long term plan is. Being on a "healthy eating kick" for 9 days isn't going to get you very far....for very long. Its a good start (!)...but now you need to get realistic and settle in for the long haul...!! This is above all else a Lifelong Journey to a healthy Lifestyle. All the best on your Journey,

If you take the perspective of the long view, you are building a healthy lifestyle that has you at a weight you like and feeling healthy and thriving. Part of this is patience and perseverance, mindfulness and resolve. These qualities will enrich other parts of your life as well. It takes time to ingrain healthy habits, to leave mistakes behind and return to the habits that will serve you and your family. Find non-food rewards to help you stay on your path and take joy in every step you make in the direction of your goals. emoticon

Are you 14 lbs away from goal or is this goal one of ten (or some other larger number)? Because if all you have to lose is 14 lbs, a healthy loss for you would be 1/4-1/2 lb per week, especially if you are active. Sustainable loss is about 1% of your bodyweight per week, but as you get into the last forty pounds or so you can cut that number in half. Being very active can also cut that number in half. Yes, as you are closer to goal it can (and will) take six weeks for your losses to add up enough to be seen over your normal daily weight fluctuations. People who see large losses, have large amounts of weight to lose. 3 lbs per week is a reasonable amount of weight to lose for someone who weighs over 300 lbs, but it's not really realistic for people at lower weights.

If you are 14 lbs total away from goal, the best thing that you can do is to get your bodyfat tested. This will give you an idea of how much you can realistically lose. There is a funny thing that happens as you get closer to goal weight and that is that achieving a certain shape and size no longer goes hand in hand with losing weight. If you want to lose inches you might need to put on lbs, in the form of muscle, rather than lose weight.

You are already over 99% of where you want to be, which means that there aren't any major changes that you can make that will make a big difference on the scale.

-google first. ask questions later.

You didn't put all the weight on in nine days. It's not going to come off in nine days either.

Healthy, sustainable weight loss is 1-2 pounds A WEEK. You've lost three pounds in a week and a half, so that's good. You're doing fine.

One stumble does not a failure make.

Everything in moderation.

P.S.

This. This is what I like about SparkPeople support. Most of the time, folks will be 100%+ honest, even if it's hard to hear.

I had to chuckle at LuAnn's, "It's you."

Ditto what LuAnn said ... totally agree!!

I don't know how much weight you have to lose, but it's a process.

I'm betting that you didn't gain all of your weight in 9 days. But somehow us humans manage to expect that we lose it all quickly. That immediate gratification thing we all seem to have ... And if you only have a smaller amount of weight to lose (think 10-30 pounds here), it's usually even slower coming off.

Don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but patience is the name of the game. Good luck to you on your journey! You're doing great. Keep it up!

Stephanie

It's you.

Healthy weight loss is 1 to 2 pounds a week.
And it is not linear.
There will be weeks you stay the same, and there WILL be weeks when you gain.

Losing 3 pounds in 9 days is a good thing, not something you should be "frustrated" and " close to throwing in the towel" over.

Ok. So. I have been on this exercising and eating healthy kick for 9 days. I have lost 3 pounds. I was hoping to have lost more. I am getting frustrated. I guess I don't have patience. I am close to throwing in the towel....even though I don't want to. Anyone else having this issue, or is it me?

Thanks a bunch!
