Hope your recovery goes smoothly- your doctors will be your best guides in becoming more active again, just be careful not to over-do it when they clear you!

If my friends are any example, you'll likely be in PT for a bit. That should be your focus. There are several practices around here that focus on therapeutic massage. Run by nurses. You getting a healing touch while your muscles are being massaged.

I am sorry about your diagnosis. Hugs

Hugs and prayers for a quick recovery. God will be by your side for your healing.

I am a born again Christian and I love the Lord with all my heart. He has changed my life so I now live with more peace and contentment. I no longer desire to have what some of my friends have , but know God knows my needs and I am so grateful that He has given me my needs and not my wants. I enjoy writing my daily blog Bible Verse for each day. I enjoy spending time with God every day.
I enjoy Spark People and the ones I have become friends with. Thy have become an encouragement as I go al

'm really pleased tat your surgery went well. Remember to follow your medical team's instructions, and that of your physiotherapist to ensure that it continues improving.

Glad your surgery went smoothly, and that you are recovering day by day. I have not had a mastectomy, but had a fairly substantial breast reduction -- and I recall it took longer than I thought it would to really get back in the swing of things. One thing I learned is to give your body time to heal itself... I pushed too hard too fast and got the flu and it *literally* nearly killed me due to my weakened immune system!

Hugs to you -- and please take care! emoticon

Hello sparkpeople,
I'm finally somewhat focused enough to do things. I had my surgery on 9/11 and I pretty much just slept for a week. My range of motion is what was to be expected and almost no strength. I've been resting but when I do things like walking around it doesn't take long to wipe me out.

I'm glad I'm focused enough to get on the computer, I tried previously but couldn't really focus until now. You all have been awesome emoticon

Hope you're feeling better. My Mom was put in touch with a cancer healing center. They did massages, had various support groups of which some were around nutrition (hardly felt like eating) and exercising as a group which brought about some giggles, but HOPE even more so.

I have many friends who have gone through this so my heart goes out to you. I hope you have a strong support group within your family, friends and church.

Outside resources if you have not been told about them are also great - the two that immediately come to mind are: Make Today Count for Cancer Survivors and Reach To Recovery which iwas started by Betty Rollin in the 70s. All of my friends are 20+ year survivors, one just celebrated her 45th year post double mastectomy.

Stay strong and know that you are never alone in this battle. You might even think about organizing a walk next spring.

Peace
Sunny

Do you like reading? Listening to music? knitting/crocheting/sewing/gardening (even in pots on a deck)? They are good forms of distraction.

It's just that resting and not being active seems so strange to me. I may be over weight but I am still active, I just don't know what to do with myself now emoticon

I, too, am sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Thoughts and prayers as you work towards healing.

Kris is correct as far as exercise and such. I encourage you to speak with your medical team to find out what types of activity and/or exercise you can do during your treatment time to help alleviate the stress and maintain some health benefits.

I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis and wish you a very speedy recovery.

As far as exercise is concerned, we cannot give you any advice on it (even from those who have had this surgery) - you NEED to be guided by your Medical Professionals and your own body. Everyone's body responds differently.

Your body needs to put it's energy into healing for a while. You are better to concentrate on good, healthy nutrition and not weight-loss, too.

Good luck,
Kris

I was diagnosed with breast cancer on May 30th 2017. I am having a double mastectomy with reconstruction in 9 days. If there is someone out there who knows how and when to workout after these surgeries let me know. I'm 39 years old(40 in Oct.) and I now weigh 201.4 lbs. and would still like to workout during this time if I can somehow. I have a couple of books on the subject but it is always good to hear it from someone who's been through it.

I know when it comes down to it, it's all up to me.
