I'm in my 60's not my 70's but I firmly believe that maintaining can be very easy. I still weigh all of my food and record everything in my Nutrition Tracker. I still mostly eat like I am in weight-loss mode, BUT I allow myself to go over a little more frequently. Weight-loss amounted to going over (as in eating what I wanted/fancied without too much regard to calories) generally about once in every two weeks. Sometimes the gap would be a bit longer. Now I average about once a week. I have been maintaining for a few years now, apart from one overseas holiday.

You can't go back to your old habits. This is where making a healthy lifestyle change, not just temporarily changing your habits (dieting), will make a difference. When you lose weight and are maintaining, you will likely be able to eat more than what you ate during weight loss, but you still need to stay within that calorie range and continue to eat healthy foods and portions as well as exercise. We also have this resource center for maintaining that you may find helpful:

Maintaining doesn't mean you stop doing everything you did to lose the weight. You still need to stay within a calorie range, you still need to weigh and measure what you eat.
