Hi all you invalids. ha ha Now watch that sarcastic statement come back to bite me in the butt. Hope you are all recovering well and dealing with the pain while doing what the doctor ordered. I had a ortho guy tell me he didn't want to do knee replacements on anyone that wouldn't commit to the exercise program they would have to do after the surgery. He liked 100% good outcomes and he said the surgery could only guarantee 80%. If the pt. wouldn't follow the physical therapy exercises on their own, they would never get the last 20% of full movement back and the MD didn't like looking bad. And you know who were the worst patients. . .. men. They are such wooses. If it hurts they wouldn't do the exercises.

Ok, no more preaching.

I can't wait for the rest of the week to fly by. I was really hoping that this week would settle down at work as the last two were tough. . . oh no, that didn't happen. I had a person collapse suddenly unconscious in front of a caregiver, a choking incident in the dining room, a cataract surgery recovery go bad, and a bazillion new orders to process. Not to mention the boss wasn't here last Thursday or Friday and didn't do her work, so she put the stack of undone stuff on MY desk. Humpf.

Anyway, I ate leftovers, tried to relax for 30 min, walked the dogs, did the dishes and walked Lila home. I was on my way back home when my friend who didn't tell me he was picking me up for bunco was at my door. I told him I needed a minute to clean up and he pointed to his watch. We had 10 min to get 1/2 mile up the road.I still had gravel in my shoes from the run with the dogs.
Well, bunco was fun anyway and now I am tired and going to bed.

Mary, your situation sounds similar to the knee replacements-keep bending it and using it though it hurts like crazy. I don't know that I could have showered by myself at the beginning-I did have Larry there to help me with that but I did have the chair to use, too. It IS totally exhausting. There should be someone there with you-close by in case you do need to yell for help. You don't want to slip and lay there for hours. With the hip I've been able to step into the shower from the day I got home which was nice though I only shower every other day-my skin is too dry as it is and I use the moisturizing liquid soaps to wash. May be why the steri strips haven't all fallen off yet. Take care!

No need to feel my pain. I'm healed. You just have to do what you have to do. Cherilyn is right, everyother day is a good plan.

Oh, Sue, it IS hard when you just can't move like you're used to. I'm so sorry you had such a terrible time. Once again, I'm all 'into me.' I want to be able to 'be there' for others and not be so self centered. With time, I hope! Thanks for the positive strokes. I put my head back and rested a while. I am still shakey. Cherilyn said not to shower tomorrow but do it the next day. Then every other day until I feel more confident. I think that's a plan!!

Mary, you had a full day. My knee wasn't broken but my body was cut from stem to stern after my last surgery. I recall how exhausting it was to just get from the bed to the bathroom. I had to shower 3 times a day and I think I slept the rest of the time. Take it slow and easy. You are making great progress.

I’m sorry I didn’t make it back last night. Anything wears me out, which brings me to my latest excursion: a shower all by myself. I was so scared and told Cherilyn facetiously that I hated her: she is making me do so much and I am so exhausted with the effort! She replaced the swivel chair in the bathroom with a lower stool like I will have when I go home. She did put a towel and washcloth on it for me since at my house it is at hand. I had to get the brace off, get undressed, work my Jello leg with NO control into the shower by stepping over the threshold, get situated on the bench, and turn on the water. I was shaking like a leaf by then and still am. I scrubbed myself and washed my hair but was so tired I just feel like I could cry. I have so little control over my life as it is and I just feel so helpless. But I did it, I got totally dressed and back into the brace by myself, made it to the other bathroom and dried my hair. I literally am shaking even now and feel like I could dissolve in tears. I know I have to do everything for myself once I get home and I want to….I just had no idea how hard this would be.

Diana, the doctor said my incision looked good and he adjusted my brace to a 30 degree angle. I have to move my knee up and down all day, but make sure I lock the brace into a straight line when I walk. AND I have to walk without the crutches. Remember the Real McCoy's show of the 50's and early 60's? Grandpa Mc Coy walked with a terrible limp. I do that, too...so much worse than when my ankle was broken. It hurts my upper body because I reel from side to side. I know I will eventualy even out, but it's so hard right now. Thanks for checking on me!

Pam, I hope one of the lights will lighten up your mood and your life in general. If you don’t take breaks and get a little sunlight you may really do yourself in. Let your ‘boss’ know it’s important to your health! Even a short walk in the snow should help somewhat! I love your new picture.

Kerry, good for you with the exercise. I do wish I can have someone come to me. Getting friends to drive me every day or even a few times a week will be so intrusive. I have to see how that goes. I haven’t been told yet. And you DO a great job with the counting, you are fair and honest and know your stuff. But I’m glad someone else has to work on it in your place for a while!

Sue, I have a 1992 Sears Kenmore washer and dryer. Every time I have them checked for my yearly maintenance agreement the serviceman tells me to baby them and don’t buy a front loader on a bet! I haven’t heard many people like the non-agitator washers, either. New and improved didn’t happen!

I need to lie down for a while and regain my equilibrium. Too bad it’s not 5:00 and I could blame it on something fun instead of ‘ninnyness!’

Pam, I am also very sun sensitive and really feel the difference when it's dark all the time. I've been planning to get a "sun" light for my desk. I know several people that use them and swear they feel much better after using the light.

Diana, I have a fairly new, upper level Maytag washer and dryer. I bought the kind with no agitator. I'll have to use it because it's what I have. But I'll admit I'm not very happy with it. No agitator means it doesn't stir the clothes up well. I have found I really have to shake the clothes out well before running. Ex: if I put throw in cloth table napkins folded, they come out folded. Also large things like sheets tend to create a balloon over the tops of the wash. No how can things be getting clean that way. I don't think it rinses well and find soap scum on dark clothes. I would not buy another one. I love the dryer, but then again, what's not to love. It drys clothes. I'm not impressed with the front loaders size, convience or price. I'd want to go back to the original large load tub washer with an agitator. For now I have to use what I have and plan accordingly. Big thing is even though it appears to have room, don't over load the washer.

Hey gang,

Feeling a bit better today, but I think perhaps I DO need one of those lights. I've been very down since the hour changed, and even on sunny days, I'm buried where I can't see outside at all. When I do leave at 4:30, it's already getting dark. Of course, If I wanted to, I could walk outside and stand in the snow and absorb some sun...LOL!. There's only a tiny bit of snow out there now and it's above zero (C), so that's fading as the day warms up. But still cloudy and dim.

Kerry, it sounds like you are well on your way to recovery - so glad.

Mary, you have a few weeks of hard work ahead of you yet, but I'm sure that everything will be fine at the end of it all! (hugs)

I don't get any notifications of posts any more - ever. I used to get all kinds of emails that I didn't want from SparkPeople. When I went into them and unsubscribed from them all, it seemed to think that I don't want ANYTHING from SP. I still have the Notifications box clicked, but it seems to be saying "tough - you don't want emails - you don't get notifications!" So there!

Anyway, it's time for me to go and do my shipping. Catch you later!

God bless,
Pam

Well, I have had 2 naps today and made it through physical therapy. We didn't walk outside because it was raining but we did all the exercises and then walked inside without the cane. He then showed my a different exercise for my right hip to strengthen it-kind of hard and strange-stand in front of the counter and raise the right hip up and down. I also had to stand with feet together, arms crossed across the chest and stare straight ahead, then close the eyes and stand like that. Then I had to stand on a square spongy thing and repeat that. He was very happy and said I had excellent balance on all those. The last one was hard but I managed to not move my feet or fall over. I was sweating like crazy by the time I was done with that session!

Donna thanks for the comments on the washer. I have heard all kinds of stories on the front loaders. I hope you enjoy your hike. I know I was amazed with people in Russia who walk all the time. The grandma’s and pregnant women and women in high heels walked faster than I did!

Kerry thanks for your input too. Who would have thought buying a washer would be such an issue? It is not conceited to say you know what you are doing at counting the money. It sounds like the others made quite a mess! They sure need you there.

Mary looking forward to hearing what is going on with your knee. I love the Knee Diet you are on! I guess it cuts down the eating if you can’t go to the kitchen and don’t want to ask for food! You will be at goal in no time that way! LOL

Well, we bought the car and he gave us the title but it is not notarized so we will have to get that done before we can finish up the title stuff. I got insurance and chose to up it to full coverage this time. It is only $36 a month so I figure with DS and the way he drives it would be a good thing. Hopefully he will take over payments of insurance next year.

Nothing else going on. Need to get out and work in the yard while it is nice. Our five pecan trees dropped all their leaves in our yard and it doesn’t look like we have pecans this year. Just a mess to clean up!

Pam, Christmas time and winter both cause depression in a lot of people and with lights and decorations going up so early this year that could be a part of your problem. Winter causes a problem because of the lack of sunshine with the dark evenings. You can get a special light that may help with that. May not hurt to try.

Diana, good job on getting that car-cops do tend to take good care of their vehicles so hopefully it will run for a long time. I had a front loading washer-I liked it because I could put so much stuff in it but then getting it all out was another story. It's dark in there and it's easy to miss socks or shirts. I would agree with Donna about a pedestal because it was really hard for any of us to bend over and reach in there. We kept talking about it but then the door broke so we now have a top loader again. I did a lot of reading on different machines and the ones without the agitator did get some bad reviews about clothes not getting clean. We got one with-a GE. It can handle a large load but has an adjustable water level from really small to extra large. We still have our old dryer because the normal things that go bad on them are fairly easy to fix.

Donna, I hope you are enjoying your hike.

I have physical therapy in a few hours so I'm taking it easy this morning. This evening we are having dinner out with two other couples from church and then Larry and I will head across the street to church for the finance meeting. Elaine and I are rather curious as to weather one of the new counters will be trying to change the way we track the money. She and her partner made such a mess of it last week that the bookkeeper called me about it. She knew I wasn't there but she also knew that I was probably the only one who could explain it without totally messing her up.. That sounds conceited but when you ask Elaine a question she thinks she has to explain it several ways so everyone gets it whereas what she does is repeat herself about 10 times totally confusing everyone. The two trainees who think they are totally trained wanted to get everything done in an hour-they put donations in the wrong place or else they were just noting stuff for themselves, I don't know. I do know they had my husband's donation down in two different places. They also pulled 2 donations from the name at the bottom of the page back up to the top so it looked like people who did not give did give. I told Terri I knew my grandson did not donation $50 for anything!! lol What bothers us most is that they say they are fully trained and can get it all done by themselves. emoticon Okay that's way more than any of you wanted to know about counting. lol

The only thing I know about not getting posts is that if you don't open the email notice one day then the next day you won't receive a notice. It's rare that any of us miss a day but that is what they say.

Diana: I bought a new washer and dryer 8 years ago. I chose a front loader with very fast rpm's so the dryer time would be so much less. First of all you need a platform or you will kill your back. I wouldn't pay what they wanted for them so I built my own for less than half the price. But, what no one told me was that those rpm;s sound like a jet engine in your home. And even last night the washer almost fell off the platform it was jumping around so much. It usually doesn't do that though. My sister's washer won't run another load unless you run a bleach cleaning cycle. This happens after so many washes. I can chose to do that or not.

I am off on a hike with a friend that I have never hiked alone with. we are in the same group. She is about 10 years older than me but I can not keep up with her. She just did a 14 mile hike Friday. The one we are doing is 3.6 miles around a mountain top. I hear it has great vistas up there. I thought she had done this one before but I don't think so. It will be an adventure.

I am on a terrible eating routine. I quit cooking altogether almost and that means I don't eat veggies anymore. I don't even have them in the fridge. I need to try to eat better than this.

Mary I am in total agreement about Scientology and the government! Scary. The guys bought a car so I didn’t have to go look.

Marylou your DH is so right. We eat much healthier when I am cooking at home. So, you have a big benefit not eating out! I’m sorry for your fall. How awful you have to worry about health benefits. Makes me mad at your DH’s boss all over again. Your family is probably getting back to simpler times. I think sometimes we were happier with less money. I remember nights when we were first married we would go for a drive around the neighborhood just to look at houses. We would play a game or go for an ice cream cone! Now entertainment is at least $50! Enjoy your time with DH.

Kerry I know you are enjoying a little normalcy. Sometimes routine is wonderful. Glad you are improving!

Pam I don’t know if you can become bi-polar but sounds like you are a bit depressed. This time of year does it to many people. I hope tomorrow is better. Hugs to you.

The guys found a good used car. Sold by a Deputy Sheriff who has too many toys and wanted to get rid of his x wife’s car. It looks like he has taken good care of it. After they came back DH and I went to town for the movie “Last Vegas” and of course laundry.

We looked at washer and dryers tonight. We talked to a man who was trying to find an “old school” washer. He said they bought one of those open drum ones with no agitator and said his clothes would come out still with the smell of his cologne. He also said the washer judges how many clothes are in it and adjusts the water level to what it thinks is necessary. You don’t have control over the water level. I didn’t notice that there were some that did that now. I was glad we talked to him. He said sometimes it barely covers the clothes. He said his washer is a waste and that his clothes don’t come out clean. Any opinions out there?

Hey gang,

I don't know what's up with SP, but I think if you "unsubscribe" to all their useless emails, that you stop getting the posts too, even though I have it checked that I want to receive notificiations....sigh. I was getting about 5-9 emails every morning that I didn't want, so I clicked on every one and went to the bottom to unsubscribe. What I DIDN'T unsubscribe to was getting my notifications. I guess they don't care... ?

Mary, you just rest and do whatever you need to do to get better. The kneecap is a terrible thing to break. Just thinking about it makes me cringe, and my knee to start twitching in sympathy....yuck.

I have had a terrible day today emotion-wise. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm becoming bi-polar or something (can one even "become" bi-polar?). Today I have been "on the verge" of tears all day. I'm just so down, and I don't really have a good reason to feel this way! DH and Leah started putting up the Christmas lights because it is so mild out there, and I nearly lost it. Maybe it's just the thought of Christmas that depresses me? Could be. I hate it - I truly do. I love to buy gifts for people, but on my terms, not because the stores want me to empty my bank account into their tills. I truly don't feel it has anything to do with Jesus, because Jesus wasn't born in winter, and the bible never said that we were to celebrate his birth anyway - just his resurrection. So I have a really hard time connecting Christmas to anything but making me depressed. Maybe it's because I have no money - that'll do it, huh? LOL!

Anyway, I won't hang around because I'll just whine even more, and that's the last thing you guys need.

Have a great Monday! (I personally love Mondays...)

God bless,
Pam

Marylou, your dinner sounds wonderful. I just got a small piece of my husband's sandwich a couple hours ago. I'm ready for a meal now.
Mary, Scientology really bothers me as it seems to have everything to do with money and none with real religion. Their main theory is the more you give to the "church" the closer you are to God. Seems to me that their "God" is the minister/owner of the church. Not how I learned about religion.
Sue, the day with your daughter sounds nice. Glad you enjoyed it and your time together.
Donna, glad you got to spend the time with your grandson. Makes you feel good when they want to stay with you, doesn't it?!
Diana, glad you made it home. Hope they can find a good car.
I made it to church this morning, home for a light lunch and then a nap before going back to get the money counted. It felt really good to be able to do the normal routine today. Tomorrow the physical therapist will be back about lunch time so I guess I should get in at least one set of my exercises this evening!

Hi girls, just had oven baked chicken with salad and a sweet potato. My dh enjoyed it. He made a comment on how much healthier we've become since we stopped eatting out.

Mary, good to hear you are doing better. I had a small accident outside today. I was cleaning up leaves and stumbled over a rock. Ugh ...landed on my side ....tried to stop my fall, but instead bruised my wrist. I hit it on another rock. Lucky for me it just swelled up. No broken bones just bruised and sore from the twisted landing I made. Got to be more careful since we don't have health insurance right now. My dh freaked out...He thought he needed to take me to urgent care. So I had to reassure him the big bump would go away after icing it. Much better now.

Diana, good to see you made it back home. I know you are enjoying some alone time.

Well off to clean up the dishes and watch a movie with my dh. Enjoy your evening all.

Sandra the 1984 movie is very old. Based on the 1949 book by George Orwell. As I recall it is in black and white and stars John Hurt. It reflects what he thought we would be living like in 1984 and it is frightening to see how controlling our government is now and how close he was to being accurate! It is one I think we should all see. The Tom Cruise movie was Minority Report. That I find scary. That is where they arrest people for “forethoughts”. That’s what Pam and I were saying. We would be in so much trouble!

Sue I bet seeing and hearing Katie Couric would be interesting. I always liked her on the Today show. I’m glad you enjoyed visiting with your daughter all day. We have decided to go to DS1s for Thanksgiving. My brother is coming to Hobart to work on his house but my stove broke so I can’t cook and don’t want to. We had already made plans so he is on his own and I refuse to feel guilty about it (or I’ll try not to!) I will have a Thanksgiving dinner at my house next year.

Donna is the pumpkin picture one of yours? How old is your GS?

Pat I know you are tired but loving hugging that sweet baby.

Marylou thinking of you and your family. Hugs.

Mary I am so sorry to hear you were in pain last night. I hate you waited to get the meds. I’m sure no one would have minded if you woke them up to get you some food. I hope your pain has now subsided. Maybe those babies will distract you a bit.

Sitting around this morning in limbo. Waiting for DH and DS to check on buying a car for DS. His car needs so many repairs that it is not worth fixing now. So, used car is in order. I would love them to come back and have bought it so DH and I could do what WE need to do now! If not they will likely go off to OKC in search of a car. I could deal with that too. I would stay home and work on what I want to if they do.

Good morning, Spark Friends. Boy, did I speak too soon! The nerve block they gave me kept me from feeling more than just discomfort. I read the pamphlet that said it would last 1-3 days. Well, it wore off at 1am, about 12 hours after surgery. I woke up in the worst pain of my life. I had my pain pills by the bed and water, but didn't know I was supposed to take it with food. It upset my stomach and made me dizzy and did nothing to ease the pain. I just lay in bed and cried. Finally, Comazell got up and got me some crackers. I slept off and on all day yesterday and felt horrible. Finally, when I woke up at 1am today I realized that I must have had fever and it broke because my body wasn't hurting as much and my knee wasn't in such bad pain. I went for 5.5 hours w/o meds and feel much better.

Greg, Cari, and Comazell have been so sweet to me! I will go to Cherilyn's late this afternoon and see the surgeon tomorrow. I hope to get better each day. Boy, never break a kneecap. It is awful!!

I need to nap right now but wanted to check in. Love to all,
Mary

It is not even 6 am on Sunday and I am up for the day. The washing machine is humming and as soon as the dawn breaks, I'll take the dogs out. IT is cold this morning, 36.

I took GS for 5 hours after work and he was disappointed when I made him go home. He is getting his mom's cold and I don't want it so I managed to do things with him where we didn't touch the same things, like cards, board games, etc. We went to the refurbished movie theater after lunch out and we got in for free! The chairs are big electric recliners that not only put your feet up, it can lay back too. I'd go just to sit in the dang chair! We saw Free bi
Brds, about freeing the wild turkeys so they are not killed for Thanksgiving dinner. Great, now we will see if GS will eat turkey or not this year. He bulked at it last year when he saw his mom take it out of the oven.

I have a hike planned for tomorrow but I it might be too cold or wet. We'll see.

When I was in Jr. Hi. George Orwell's 1984 was required reading. Didn't think much about it then, really too young to understand it. But when it turned 1984 I kind of freaked out about it and recalled all the predictions of the future. I guess I need to reread it and see how far we've come.

Had a nice day at the Johns Hopkins Women's Journey in Baltimore yesterday. First it was nice to share and entire day with my daughter. That doesn't happen often. The mini-sessions and the speakers were very interesting and informative, especially Katie Couric.

Mary, I hope today is a better day than yesterday. I recall how awful it is those first fews days after surgery. Take your meds as prescribed and needed and give yourself time to heal. Not comfortable I'm sure, wish we could help.

Can't believe Thanksgiving is less than 2 weeks away. Only a small group here, my girlfriend had a better offer, so she's backed out. It will just my daughter's family. Son's family has other plans, I'll miss them. I'll just cook some holiday favorites and skip the extras. We'll at least eat in the dining room and I'll pull out the good dishes and etc. Try to make it look a little special.

Well, off to have my Sunday morning coffee and read the paper. Such an exciting life. - s

Hello to all,
Didn't do much today but go to church and read. The wind was blowing warm humid air. It is supposed to get rainy and then cold again. Neither DH or I got sick from the meat. I didn't think I had eaten enough to get sick but I was a little worried about DH. But we are both fine.
Diana, I thought I was a big movie buff but I don't think I remember seeing either movie that you and Pam were talking about. However if a person could get arrested for their thoughts I would be in deep dodo creek without a paddle!
Our little dog is outside barking and about to drive me nuttier than I already am. I have called her into the garage to her bed twice but when I come in she goes right back out and starts all over again. The little monster thinks she is ten feet tall and bullet proof but she is really just 8 lbs of noise! If it was anything important the 2 bigger dogs would be barking also but they aren't so there is nothing out there to worry about.
Kerry, I used a recombent bike during rehab and it was good but I don't think I could get one. They are way to expensive.

Pam we were posting at the same time. I watched 1984 again in KZ and boy were we already there! I think one of the scariest movies I saw was a Tom Cruise movie about arresting people for their thoughts! You and I would be cell mates! I won’t tell on you if you don’t tell on me! LOL

Mary we are all so glad you came through fine and that your children are caring for you. Be careful and enjoy that big old chair and your wait staff! LOL Let us know Monday what the doctor says.

Sandra how awful the steaks were bad. I am glad you chose not to eat them and that they gave your money back. Food is too expensive these days. You are so sweet. I do enjoy my quilting. I just finished up a couple of quilts. When I get back from Texas I will try to put pictures on my page again. One is a pineapple quilt and the other was patriotic with red white and blue scrappy stars. Both were a pain to make but I’m happy with them.

Donna how nice that you have a fun place to take GS while you watch him. Sorry DD doesn’t feel well. I bet those house plants have a big smile on their face!

Kerry I wish I could play with crafts today but I’m off to Texas for another GD birthday. I need to stay home and help DH with our little house. I’m glad you are doing well with your recovery.

Well I guess it is time to get ready to leave. Check in again tomorrow.

Good day ladies,

Kerry, I think since 2001, the idea of “offending” someone is getting worse and worse. There are so many things now that you can’t say without offending someone, I’m surprised you’re able to talk at all! In all honesty, 2013 is getting more and more like George Orwell’s 1984 every day. An excerpt from the description “under the control of a privileged Inner Party elite that persecutes all individualism and independent thinking as "thought crimes". I personally think that’s what Obama wants, but I won’t get into a political discourse here. LOL! (Nice check by the way… :)

Diana, the way things are going, laughing at yourself will also be considered a “thought-crime”. LOL If the world DOES become like "1984", I’m gonna be spending a lot of time in prison…. emoticon

Mary, you just lie back and relax and let other people “do” for you. You deserve it, and feeling guilty about it isn’t going to help your recovery. I’m still curious to know what they did and what the problem was with your knee. When you are feeling better, we need more info! LOL

Sandra, I’m glad you didn’t eat that steak. The reason they all look so red and tasty is because they inject dye into the meat so it doesn’t lose that “fresh” look. I’m so happy that I buy my meat local from the local butcher and I know even which farmer’s cow/pig/sheep I’m getting! The meat is only red when it is first butchered. By the time meat is actually ready to cook, it is often no longer red. I won’t buy meat from the supermarket any more. I’m suspicious of that “lovely redness”. LOL! Hopefully, your hubby has a cast-iron stomach and won’t get sick from it. Yes - 37 degrees is pretty cool for Texas isn’t it, I’ll agree. However, I don’t even wear a coat unless the temp is below freezing. I feel quite comfortable with just a t-shirt and zip up hoodie most days. Mind you, I’m not outside a lot – generally just trundling from one building to car and back. I’d probably wear a jacket (If I had one) if I was outside for very long.

Donna, I hope your DD gets over that cold soon. It sounds like a doozer. I hate colds like that. Some colds are mild and you recover quickly. Some are miserable, feverish and nasty rhinovirii (or is it viruses?? LOL) which leave you down and out for the count.

Well, I need to go into the city and do some shopping. I’ll get back later and catch up.

Have a great Saturday all!

God bless,
Pam

Donna, glad your plants got some fresh rainwater! I had my left hip done but the issue of getting into the car keeps me from driving. The seat has to be all the way back, and partially reclined to keep me from having more than a 90 degree bend at the waist and I have to sit on the seat and swing both legs in together. I tried that several times before the surgery and it's a pain with the steering wheel. I would also have to bend over to scoot the seat forward so I could reach the pedals. lol I do need to get some practice in on that though so I can be a bit more independent.

Sandra, glad you got your money back with no hassle. Hope the steak didn't make your husband sick. My husband can't often smell when things go bad, either, which isn't a good sign or they just like to ignore things. Is your bike seat too high? I know I have a recumbent bike here in the family room but before the surgery I couldn't ride it because it hurt too bad to get the left leg around. The therapist hasn't said a word about me using it.

I had a friend who's daughter broke her elbow playing soccer. Well, mom wanted her to keep playing so all the colleges could see her and bought a special brace for the elbow. She did this for any injury the kid had which I think is totally crazy/irresponsible for a parent. Anyway, a doctor said if the break had been any worse it would have detached the bicep muscle which would pull it right up to the shoulder and it would then have to be stretched back down and reattached. That takes a long time to heal. I'm guessing this is what your daughter had, Sandra, sounds really painful. I hope her recovery was 100%-I think having a nurse for a mom probably helped her that way.

Mary, I know you felt good sleeping in a real bed-hope the kids take good care of you. Hope the pain meds helped you sleep all night.

Hi, Diana, I know you'll be keeping yourself busy today with the house or your crafts.
My husband and grandson are now home from the church men's group so I guess I should be getting myself up and dressed and all that good stuff.

GOOOOOD MORNIN'

I am up and at 'em and just waiting for the clock to tick down to leave for work. Boss was off again yesterday and I had 3 admits. I don't DO admits, and she even has never done 3 in one day. I am glad today will be short.

Sue: Good for you. You have the resolve to start a new day and try, try again. We all do that.

Sandy: Those steaks sound terrible. Yuck! I'm glad you never ate it. Who wants to get sick over bad food? I wonder if one of those recumbent bikes would work for your back? Ask DH to haul the bike back outside to the shed. You shouldn't be doing it.

Mary: SO glad the surgery is over. The future will be brighter every day. Hope you get to go home soon. What a gift that the kids are nearby and can and will help you. That is what family is all about. You'd do the same for them.

My DD is very sick with a cold, chest congestion, fever, etc. I will take GS when I get off work. There is a Christmas bazaar that has kids games etc that I will take him to today and get him out of the house.

We got a wonderful rain storm last night. I hauled the house plants out in it to make them happy. We haven't had rain in forever.

Hello to all,
Well things were pretty good here today until suppertime. Before that I sat outside on the porch in the sun and out of the breeze and it was wonderful. I got back to walking today and I am not going to try to ride the bike anymore. It seems like the side to side motion of pedaling is what makes my back hurt. I tried riding it again yesterday and last night and this morning I was really hurting. I guess there are some things that I will never be able to do with those screws and rods in my back. I guess I will take the bike back out to the storage building. I will get one of those walk away the pounds videos. I have been talking about that anyway so I guess I will for real now. On Monday on my way back from San Antonio I stopped in Yoakum at HEB and bought some steaks that were on sale and tonight when I opened them to cook them they were spoiled! I thought they smelled kind of funny but they looked so pretty and red and they really didn't smell spoiled but they smelled like "Cheetos" to me. (I know that is funny but it is really what it smelled like to me) DH said he didn't smell anything so I just figured it was my smeller was off so DH went ahead and cooked them on the gas grill outside and when he brought them in It smelled awful. I told him I didn't think they were any good but he still kept "tasting" it until he had eaten almost 1/2 of his steak. Then he started complaining how nasty they were. I only tasted mine once and knew it was bad. I hope he doesn't get sick from eating so much. I told him not to. So after supper he told me to take them back to the store and get my money back, but I only took the tag off of the wrapper. They gave me the money back with no questions asked. So we had a veggie supper. Green beans, squash and cucumbers all out of the garden.

Pam, our temps got down to 37 degrees for 2 nights, but for us that is pretty cold for deep south Texas. But it is supposed to be in the 80's again this week. They say if you don't like the Texas weather just wait a day and it will change and that is really true. Your little Landon is adorable and my first daughter Patricia was like that. She walked at 7 1/2 months and If I dared put her down for a nap (if I was able to) then she would not sleep at night at all. I learned very quickly NOT to put her down for a nap.

Mary so glad to hear that the worst is over for you and that your sweet children are taking good care of you. Let them, and get yourself some rest. Your right, a solid knee has to be better than hanging bones. Keep those pain pills going!!! When DH had his knee replacement and when Patricia had her ACL and LCL and more stuff that I can't remember right now repaired (there was a lot and it was pretty bad, they had to bring muscle from her calf and bring it up over her knee and screw it and pin it on her shin bone), they made them both use the exerciser machine right away for many hours a day. Patricia slept with hers on all night. It keeps the knee moving constantly. Are you going to have one?

Kerry, I keep forgetting which hip you had surgery on. Is it the Rt. one? Is that why you cannot drive yet? Is it hard for you to get in and out of the car? It is so hard to have to rely on some one else when you are used to doing things on your own.

Diana, the snowman pillow sounds very cute. I love to hear about all of the nice things you make. You are so talented!!

Donna, I'm glad that your boss was absent and gave you a break at work. Hope that luck continues.

Sue, how are your quilts coming?? Have you started the Christmas countdown yet? I cannot even begin to think about it. I know Cindy will be here for our Black Friday shopping day and that usually starts off my Christmas Season. And she usually gives me lots of ideas on what to buy the kids too.

Pat, how is work going? Good I hope. How is Stephanie doing after her surgery and with the baby? Good also I hope.

Well it is getting late so I will close for tonight.
Sandra

Hi, Sweet Spark Sisters! I am at Greg's and ready for bed. I am so tired but so glad it's over. I came through the surgery just fine and slept most of the afternoon. The doctor and all his people were so nice! They gave Cherilyn and Donna, my SIL all the info. I was out of it and didn't hear a thing! Best thing: they weighed me before anesthesia WITH this huge black brace I've had all week. I was LESS than what I weighed at WW 2 weeks ago!! I hope I can keep that up. For now, I just want to recuperate with as little pain as possible. I want a KERRY RECOVERY! I will see the doctor for a followup on Monday and find out how things are going and what to do from there. I'm just so glad my bones aren't hanging any more. A solid knee/leg just sounds SO much better, lol..
Thanks so much for all the prayers and good wishes. I will check back tomorrow. Right now I need to take my pain pill and go to sleep!

Pam it does sound like Landon will be one to keep active. My GS is the same way. Doesn’t like to sleep. When I watch him I take him to places he can run and stay active and he goes to sleep alright. But, I’m like you …glad I’m not his mom. Landon is so cute though. I know he is afraid he will miss something if he sleeps! I really do think he is adorable!

Kerry everyone is getting so sensitive these days it is ridiculous! We need to be able to laugh at ourselves. People are reaching back to their ancestors to be offended! We need to get over our past and live now. We all have abuses in our past whether you are black, white, Irish, native……we need to learn to live in the now and not be so serious. We are going to be reporting each other to the government soon! Now no letters please……………… Boy that is quite the check! That doesn’t happen often! Good for you doing your therapy!

I got a lot done today. Did several errands and made a pillow. DH is talking about going tonight to Dallas and returning after the party tomorrow evening. So, I won’t get much done tomorrow. I can check off GD birthday party.

Pam,I was shocked that my comment got 25 likes. There was actually a teacher fired in Jacksonville because she said her husband was a redneck-kind of her love name for him. Can you believe that? A black teacher said it was an insult to her because rednecks were people who hate blacks. I have never heard that before and a lot of southerners hadn't either. They fired the teacher but got so many complaints they decided to just move her to a different job. Well, luckily someone else offered her a better job with better pay. I was kind of embarrassed when I learned the woman who complained is married to one of my FB friends.

Okay, Apple Grandes are from the Mexican restaurant Taco John's. You start with a crispy flour tortilla-I used a paper towel to soak up some grease and then dredged it in some cinnamon sugar. Top that with some mashed or chopped apple pie filling, sprinkle some crushed red hots (cinnamon imperials) and just a very light sprinkle of finely shredded cheddar cheese. Most people cringe at the cheese but it does add a lot in flavor contrast. Mine weren't as good as the restaurant but not bad. I had a hard time finding the red hots but picked some up in Colorado and came home to find I had a bag from Valentine's day in the cupboard.

My daughter brought in yesterday's mail and I found we had gotten a check from an insurance company. Our agent did a review and discovered that we somehow had gotten 2 flood policies so they cancelled one and kept the other. The check was to return the two years of payments we had made-$2070!!! That was niiiice! I think we can go buy our bathroom cabinets now and then find someone to put them in along with all new drywall. Our sin-in-law has a torn rotator cuff so he can't do it which means it's going to cost a bunch more. Yes, that is the same sil who broke both his heels. That 'kid' is going to have some horrible arthritis in a few years. Well, I better get some exercises done. I need to be able to lift this left knee up and hold it for 5 seconds 20 times by Monday when the therapist comes back.

Hi guys - I'm at work so can't stay long.

Hope that Mary is waking up nicely and things went well for her.

Diana, Landon is very animated. He reminds me of a Jack-in-the-Box. Every time I look at him, he's bouncing...LOL! He is a happy baby, but I'm guessing that unless he learns how to sleep, he's going to be a problem. He truly does not like going to sleep. He will scream blue murder if you try to put him down for a nap during the day (or even at night sometimes). He wants to be awake 24/7 and is very active the whole time. I'm so glad I'm not his mother...LOL! Hopefully once he is one his feet and moving he'll wear himself (and mom) out more. (I don't think he's going to crawl. He seems to be like my daughter Becky, who didn't crawl at all - just got up and started walking). But he is a funny little boy.

Sandra I’m sorry that you have to pay for your glasses but your eye sight is important. I’m glad you chose the specialist. Especially since you weren’t happy with the other doctor. It sounds like your DH has “selective memory”. I am sure he remembers what he wants to remember. Thanks for the encouragement. We will get on track slowly.

Kerry so glad you are doing well. I can’t believe you have already been released. Time sure flies.

Mary the facility would be good for you if WC pays for it. You could just scrapbook and be on the computer and have people at your beck and call! Waiting to hear.

Donna I know you don’t miss your boss. I’m sure things go much more smoothly while she is gone.

Pam I am continually amazed at Landon’s pictures. He is so animated all the time. He seems like he is going to be such a happy little guy! I’m attempting to cook something healthy today. I sent some candy with my DH today to give to my son and his college friends. It was leftover from Halloween and even though I didn’t like it I kept trying to!!!! LOL I still drink lots of tea. Do you like biscotti?

Sue I understand. It is like I am punishing myself with food! I get down on how I’m eating and eat even worse! Let’s move toward the positive. Today I am going to put the last border on a quilt and make the Mr and Mrs Santa pillows I appliquéd when I was gone. I bought some white pom poms I will put around the edge to make it look like snowballs. If I stay busy I do better. I will vow to drink my water today too. I have been cheating on that too!

Marylou I hope you are enjoying your new students. Let me know how you are.

Pat are you at home or with Decklin?

Today I have to find a birthday gift for GD. We drive back to Texas again tomorrow. I’m glad gas prices are down! I also will work on a couple of quilting projects today. DS will be here tonight since he is going with us tomorrow. His car is not working so DH is trying to see if it is a cheap fix. I doubt it. I will make something good for me for dinner. I am trying to inch myself back to healthy. I plan like Sue to drink my water today!

Eat and drink for me, sweet sue...I am bone dry! Just a quick hello with grace in my arms...surgery is after 10:00 and then to Greg's for the weekend. I slept in a real bed for the first time in almost a weekly...bliss!

Mary, prayer are with you today.

I'm going to start again, try to get back on track and move those scales down the line. My goal for today is to keep a smile on my face and keep a positive attitude. I've been really down on myself lately and that has a drastic affect on my eating. Last two days I've been totally out of control. Time to STOP, now before it's too late. I need to fill the water jug and keep it nearby. That's helps me resist fattening temptations. Ok, time to put my plan in to action. GLUG, GLUG, GLUG.

Wow - I can't believe my last message was Monday! I'm really getting behind here, and I'm not being notified of messages either!! grrr.

Mary, I'll be sending up prayers for you and your surgeon and hopefully everything will go very well. You still didn't tell us what it was he was actually going to do though.

Kerry, I nearly commented on that Redneck shirt too, but decided it wasn't worth the hassle. But your opinion was the same as mine anyway. :) Now - what is Apple Grandes? It sounds like odd but I'd like to see the recipe.

Marylou, here's hoping that the college Whitney wants to attend will shortly send her positive notice about scholarships and grants.

Sandra, I'd like to know what you call "cold". Humour me here and tell me what the temperature is that you find cold. LOL!

Diana, welcome back! And - as Sandra said, don't worry about falling off the wagon. Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start over again! :)

Anyway, I just looked at the clock and saw that it's well past teatime! Get back shortly!

God bless,
Pam

Mary: Good luck with the surgery. Maybe we will hear from you on Friday.

Boss left work at 8:30 and never came back. It was a good day. I don't think she will be back tomorrow either. Two of her kids are having MRI's tomorrow and the third one knocked out both his front teeth today so she will be busy with them.

I am tired and not going to walk the dogs tonight.

I only have my iPad with me..I'm at cherilyn's tonight and will have surgery sometime after 10:00 tomorrow. No eating or drinking after midnight! I will go to Greg's after the surgery but Cherilyn and my sister in law, the nurse wil be with me. Thank you for all the prayers. It's outpatient surgery and should last an hour and a half. So no rehab facility. I was told by the surgeon to make arrangements to stay with someone with no stairs, too! I am nervous but will be glad when it's over!

I will try to say hello tomorrow but I will probably be out of it after surgery...not that I'm not out of it most of the time, lol.

Thanks for being in my corner!

I had a malware program on my computer-not sure why it's not there now, but, Sandra, you should have both as malware is different from viruses. There's another program my husband has on his new computer but I can't remember what it is. I'll have to check it out as well as get my malware back.

It's very quiet here right now. I didn't get to the bank or Walgreens so I guess when Larry gets home he gets to drive me. The nurse showed up this morning and did the entire discharge thing and told me to call if they were needed again. Oh this morning on FB I made a comment on a question from the TV station about a kid being sent home for wearing a shirt that said Redneck. I think it was a Duck Dynasty shirt. Most everyone said that was wrong and my comment got 25 likes!! wow!! lol

Diana, glad you made it home safely. Donna, hope you can get some rest.

Thank you Mary Lou for the malware information. I did not know this but DH said our webroot got rid of all of the viruses. I hope he is right.

Diana, don't feel like the Lone Ranger I have not done well at all for a long time on any kind of diet. I just can't seem to get my head in it at all.

Hello to all,
I just got off of the phone with the eye dr. it seems that the prescription for my new glasses is as directed but since it has been 90 days I will have to pay for a new exam, the only good thing is I can choose which dr. to go to. Either the regular optometrist or the specialist. If I have to pay for one anyway I guess I will choose the specialist. The problem is that when I first put them on I can see fine but the longer I wear them the more blurry my vision becomes. I think the original dr. just didn't give the right prescription. I didn't think it was a good idea to wait but DH said I had to in case I ended up having Glaucoma which I didn't have, I wouldn't have to have the glasses redone. Well I have to have them redone anyway and because I waited too long I will just have to pay again. It has to be done within 90 days or I will have to pay for the glasses again too. Hiss, Booo.

Mary, I would love to be able to take you up on the win, win situation. But I don't DH would go for it. He claims that I didn't take care of him when he needed to. So he doesn't see how I could take care of you or anyone else. He doesn't remember that he wouldn't let me touch him or do anything for him and that is why after 3 weeks I went ahead and went to my family reunion and left him alone for 4 days. But he sure does throw it back into my face "every time." Now since I have had so many surgeries he is telling me and others that I am just a big Drama Queen, when I talk about needing something done with my neck. I will be praying for a full and quick recovery and much less pain for you after the surgery. I will be thinking and praying about you all day tomorrow. I am so sorry you have to go through this. Be sure to ask your Dr. about rehabbing in a facility, it would be such a great help for you. It might have to do with your insurance (workmans comp) if they will pay for it or not. And like Kerry said it might get boring but still very helpful.

Kerry, you do sound like you are doing very well since your surgery. From what I understand the rehab is the most important part to getting back to normal and I have also heard that it takes up to a full year before you are "normal". I haven't walked in over a week but it is very cold and over cast today so I will probably get on the exercise bike sometime today. I did walk a lot while I was in San Antonio but that was just through the farmers markets. I hope you are right about Mary possibly getting to rehab in a facility for a few weeks. That would be so great for her.

Pat, thank you for the attempt of the e-card. I had such a nice response from so many friends and family. Most on the computer. It made me feel really good that so many people thought of me. I know that Face book has a reminder but still I don't always respond to every ones birthday even on that unless I am actually friends with them and so many did. My son David and his family came last night and brought me a gift. It was a candle with dark branches around it in the shape of a pinwheel. I put it next to the fireplace, it seemed like it fit there pretty good. I had a great visit with them. I had missed the boys so much (well David and Jody also but you know the grandsons are the top of the list, Ha,ha).

Donna, what you said to Mary made me laugh, you are good. I think the change in the weather has us all feeling achy but it sounds like you just done to much. You are so active all of the time. It is very nice that you enjoy walking/hiking and doing that sort of thing. I guess I am just a lazy bum because I have to actually make myself get out and walk or ride the bike. I actually like it once I get started I just have to make myself do it.. I know I'm weird.

Well DH went to town and he should be back soon. He will fuss if he sees me on the spark page because he thinks this is where the virus came from that we had on the computer and that is what messed up my email. I don't think that is what happened to my email but it is a good excuse for him to complain about the spark people site.

Hi Ladies

Got home from Dallas yesterday but have been exhausted. I didn’t even finish my SP yesterday which is unusual.

I ate totally wrong all week and feel awful physically. I feel bloated and defeated. So, I guess I have hit bottom again. I almost wish I had not gone on vacation because that is where I fell off the wagon. But, today I ate my fruit smoothie and plan to count my calories. I am trying to remember that all is not lost that I can do this. I see Pat, Mary and Kerry having lost and still doing well. Well, that is my mental status! LOL

Kerry I hope you continue to heal. It got very cold here Tuesday. My DH finally got the heat working in both houses so I’m a happy camper about that. I was in the 20s last night. Way too cold for me. It is supposed to warm up a little and get cold again Monday.

Mary sounds like you had a bit of help from sister. I hope Chris was able to finish getting you organized. I haven’t been reading my posts so I didn’t realize you will be having surgery but I figured that might happen. You will definitely need someone there when you get home. It is great you have someone checking on how you are using your crutches. Maybe it will be easier on your muscles if you use them right. I’m glad to hear you may not go back to work until after Christmas! It is good the principal and manager came over. I feel they had ulterior motives checking to see if you are incapacitated. You showed them! I like the idea of a fanny pack for you. They sure are ugly but have their uses!

Pat I know how family business can distract from Sparking! That is what has been going on with me too.

Sandra I am glad to hear you enjoyed your birthday. That chicken sounds wonderful.

Pam I love all the posts on FB of cats and of course the pictures of the little one. We are getting very cold here. How about you?

Sue today I go to a bed turning at a friend’s house. She is serving lunch so that is nice. I continue to work on my UFOs. How are you doing? My son found out he is not a swabby for sure. He was sick on the week long cruise. He has decided that he will fly places and stay. Cruises are out. But, they did have a good time.

Donna I hope work has settled down. You had a full day Tuesday for sure. Now with the boss being out next week you will be very busy. But, I bet you will be a much better supervisor!
Marylou sounds like you have a decision to make. It would be nice to have a full time position right now. I do understand how tiring it can be to work with little ones. I am so tired from the constant attention with Calleigh for the past 10 days.

While I was in Dallas DH worked hard on the little house. He managed to finish most of the plumbing. He ran the gas line so there is heat in both houses now. We are picking out tile for the laundry room today or tomorrow and putting in the last door on the back porch. (except for interior doors). We will hook up the lights this week he says. That way with heat and light we can work later in the house. I am starting to see progress.

Well, I’m hoping to have my head back in the game. Missed you all.

Hello to everyone. Not much new here. Work was busy but ok today. The boss is having surgery next Thursday and will be out 2 days. That's Ok but it leaves me in charge of scheduling and everything else, 24/7.

ML: That was nice that the TA thought of you for the job. Decisions, decisions.

Mary: Let us know when you hear about the time for your surgery. Who is taking you in for it?

I got the dogs walked and went to bunco tonight. It is fun to see all my friends. Again, I am the only one that works . . so amazing that all these women can afford to retire. Oh well.

Sandra, my dh said to Google " malware bytes," it's free. Down load it and install it. This will remove the malware. He uses it at work. You might know this already, but if not I hope it helps.

A TA talk to me today. She is leaving and wanted to give me a heads up. She said I would be the perfect fit with her teacher. The position is in kindergarten. She told the principal that she could stay until Christmas, but if I wanted to start soon she would leave. I'm thinking it over this evening. I think I just mentioned this to Mary, how much I enjoy the older kids. I had a good day with fourth graders today. I have the same class tomorrow. The older ones are more independent. However this is a great opportunity and I would enjoy working with the little ones too. They just tire me out with the extra help they require.

That's cool that someone is coming to check out your walking. I know I would have serious problem with crutches.

The morning is over and I’m just now getting here. No SP notices that anyone had posted, either. I will never understand that! I never opt not to get them. I didn’t sleep very well…decided not to use the Vicodin. Maybe tonight, though, because I wasn’t comfortable. I woke up at 6:30 and it only took me 25 minutes to do a ‘Bird Bath’ and get dressed! I then washed my hair over the sink. My hairdresser never called. I really wanted my hair cut but I guess short of going to a quick walk in place, it’s not going to happen. I made Cheerios and ate grapes. I went into Dave’s office for 15 minutes and filed bill stubs and straightened up. A sweet neighbor came over and brought my mail. I have 3 new bills to pay before I go to Cherilyn’s tomorrow and I hope the rest arrive today. I don’t want to miss any! She also brought me a fanny pack. I can’t carry the phone and my pants don’t have pockets. So she made me put both home and cell phone in it and sling it like a cross body purse! Woo hoo…every time my cell phone vibrates I grin, lol!! (it “don’t” take much to make me happy is what my MIL says, lol!) I am so tired but at least I’m not doing lesson plans. I haven’t been asked to although my partner asked if I was going to do all the grading for daily work and tests!! I told her that I wasn’t opposed to that after I see how I feel but I certainly won’t be up for that next week. They haven’t said if I’m going to be paid but I will look into that after surgery.

I did get a call that the surgery will be on Friday but they will call back tomorrow with the exact time and instructions. No planning ahead, that’s for sure! So it’s like your surgery, Kerry. I’m so glad you’re able to get out a little! I see all the ads here and hate the opinion polls. But I do like that this site is free. I would be lost without all of your support. Oh, and I’ll bet I’ve lost weight. My tummy is almost flat…not really interested in eating for once in a very long time, lol! This may be the side effect blessing in disguise.

Marylou, I haven’t been told yet if the sub of this week will be ‘the sub’ until I get back. I’ve gotten notices via my school email that she is on the books for most of December but there are other names on there as well. I hope I don’t have to try to do remote lesson plans. I even did them as best as I could for this week, thinking I would be back tomorrow and into a normal routine. This has been so overwhelming. If it was a public school there would be a routine in place but not our tiny school. We have about 5 subs. I didn’t realize you had subbed before the preschool position, I just remembered how awful it was when the numbers went down and they let you go. I’m so glad you like the older kids…someone has to, lol!!

Pat, y’all have all ‘been here’ for me so much over the years. I wish I could ‘be there’ for the rest of you instead of having concentration on me! I think it’s strange that this time the school IS paying attention but I think it’s because they have something invested in it. Last time it was on my ‘time’ I guess! But they’re being really nice now so I’m going to go with that until I have reason to think otherwise!

One of my Theresian friends from church is coming over to watch how I walk with the crutches and the brace. She works with disabled children and adults and has offered to do this! I am so truly blessed with sweet people in my life…y’all especially!
