My opinion about keto is that it's another diet that tells you to cut out simple carbs. And that's what we should be doing, compared to the typical American Diet, that has far far too much sugar in it. Low carb works because simple sugars cause hunger, which, of course, is one reason we quit dieting. Search on "simple sugar hunger leptin triglyceride" for the biology behind sugar.

Most diets, though, already tell you to cut out sugar. So, if you can stick to a low fat, vegetarian, Mediterranean, or whatever diet that you can *stick to*, that's the diet you should follow.

*All* diets start out by using up your glycogen stores. Glycogen is your short-term energy source, stored in your muscles and liver. Glycogen is water-soluble, meaning that, as you deplete your glycogen, you lose the water bound to it. That's the "water weight" you first lose when dieting. When you start using up fat, you will then lose weight more slowly, perhaps plateauing. Fat isn't water-soluble, so you aren't losing water anymore when you're finally starting to use up your fat reserves.

Low carb has worked better for me than low fat. However, for myself, I cook at home, and this means I plan my meals. Tracking meals (which is indirectly done with meal planning) often results in better weight loss. I also mostly make salads and soup for lunch, which increase the amount of vegetables I take now, compared to my previous attempt at a low carb diet. Since I live in a household of non-dieters, I'll eat simple carbs once or twice a week, but I'm still losing weight, just not as drastically as some low carb dieters (and I don't think you really need to lose weight quickly).

About KETO. I have been on Keto since February 2018. It works.

Keto WOE is not meant to be a quick fix. Keto is meant to be a lifestyle. If you learn to eat Keto properly it is not hard. We are not looking for the day we can go back to what some refer to as "regular" eating. Keto is for health reasons also.

I invite you to come over to the Spark team "Team KETO" Super active and lots of helpful information there.

I tend to agree that it's a short-term fix, but some folks seem to have success with it long term. The sad truth is that nothing seems to work in the long haul for the majority of us and I'm thankful every day that I can continue to lose or maintain because the odds of success are pretty pathetic no matter how you go about it. The one thing I will add is that I personally think plans where you cut out or greatly reduce whole food groups have an even worse chance for long-term success. The best any of us can do is to keep trying. Never quit!
