At the top of this page on the right, you'll see your username. On one side of it there is a "help" link that will get you started right. On the other side of your username, you'll find a little blue magnifying glass that will open a search box for the whole site. Good luck with your goals and welcome to SparkPeople!

I just started 7 weeks ago. I started by counting EVERY calorie I put in my mouth and put it in a journal. You can do that here on Spark, but I prefer to keep a book I can write in. I weigh and measure EVERYTHING and log the calories. You can look online to find out how many calories you should be eating to lose weight. As for exercise, start small. Walking or light weights is good to start. With time, you can build up your exercise routine. Also, I don't know how much weight you want to lose or how old you are, but you might want to check with your doctor if you are in a "high risk" category. Good luck!

If you are serious about losing weight, start by weighing/measuring all you eat and logging it.
If you are serious about exercise, start by walking every day.
