Walking with your cane is still walking; good for you!
When you acquired your cane, did you get any gait training with a physical therapist? I ask because if you're not using the cane to your best advantage and with proper alignment, you could be adding irritation to your back/hip issue.

I know this because I am a nurse with back/hip pain of my own. I've worked for years on my gait (ever since bilateral knee replacements) with therapists and orthopedics specialists.

If you have access to a pool, I would urge you to do some of your movement there (the buoyancy might even let you put your cane aside) -- even just walking will be easier on your joints in the water. And your stretching may be easier there as well.

Be gentle on yourself. And keep moving!

I don't have a much experience with walking with my cane and wonder if there are others who are getting back into shape and are walking starting out with a cane.

Second issue is hip/back - I've started doing different yoga positions to help stretch out my inner thigh muscle and hip muscle.

I clearly can't do 2 miles per hour walking at this moment, so how do I gauge my walking for calorie. I am working on 2500 steps a day as I just passed a week at 2000 steps

Today I am doing 2200 right now.
