I started Optavia January 6, 2018. As of today I have lost 32 lbs and that includes a week at a conference/vacation in Arizona this month. i came home to a 2 lb loss. I planned ahead, packed a suitcase with my foods, measuring cups, bowl, etc. i asked the hotel for a microwave and they provided one no charge. I'm working with a health coach which is free from Optavia. I actually met my health coach at a womens health expo 5 years ago and we became facebook friends. I contacted her and ordered the essential kit and it came on friday and I started on saturday Jan 6. My health coach believes in me and has been great guiding me on the habits of health. I hope you have a coach. I lost 70 lbs 6 years ago on medifast, so I knew it works for me.

I'm working with an free Optavia Health coach to achieve optimal health in my life. WE want a healthy body, mind, sleep, and finances. The program works for anyone if you start eating 6 small meals a day and learn the habits of health.

With optavia (medifast), I still have to wait til friday 1/26/2018 to start any kind of exercise activity. Got medical work up to continue with this diet. Great lab results, but BMI was not so good. Appreciate a forum to talk

Take a hard look at your diet. Are your portions getting bigger, perhaps too much snacking? When you're choosing a meal or snack, are you giving it some thought or just grabbing whatever you're craving? I've found that as I get older, I really have to pay attention to what goes in my mouth, both quantity and quality.

Exercise - start where you are. Can you stand up and march in place or walk during each commercial break while watching TV? Keep a pair of light hand weights next to your chair and do a few sets of shoulder or arm exercises. Even getting in and out of your chair is exercise for the beginner, when done properly. I think Spark has some seated exercise routines...check them out.

You can do it!!

That's where I am -and I don't like it. If I do anything other than short walks I find myself just out of breath. I am trying to walk but hurt my back and use a cane.

And I have decided I need more help, so I am posting.

I too have started over and over....once again this year. I have had double hip replacement so exercise was hard for me too.
Try to find an Aqua Zumba class near you. It's so motivating. And if your class is like my zumba classes there are all shapes, sizes and ages. The water helps take the impact off your joints while the resistance gives you a great work out. The music and laughter keep you motivated. Remember "You never fail until you quit". Oh and don't be hard on yourself do what you can do and aim for just one step further, one more stroke in the pool or getting up from that recliner. Even just walk around your house or take the pooch out for a short walk. I'm always here if you need a boost. We'll do it together. Happy New Year/ New YOU!!!

Nothing is impossible. The word itself say's "I'M POSSIBLE"!

I would like to join in with you all. I am 70 and will be 71 in Feb
I'm in the same boat and would like to change that.Like you all, I've started over more than I can count.
At my age it's easier just to set back in my recliner and take it easy, but when I see myself in the mirror I don't like what I see.
So I can choose to stay the way I am and be lazy and fat, and just set in my chair and watch tv, or set in my chair and work on my PC, stay the way I am, or change the way I look and feel and the way I see my self. So I have a choice to make. Good luck to you all on Your weight loss journey.

I am starting over again, kind of psyching myself up to it by maintaining over Thanksgiving and Christmas. Turned 60 last summer at it threw me a bit. Now it's as much if not more for health than appearance.

I turned 59 this year. I have started over literally dozens of times but I never give up! I went from 217 to 140 and back all the way up to 178. Now I am just under 160 lbs. and I plan to be back at 140 by summer, 2018. Wishing everyone all the best success. We can do this!

I, too, am in this boat ladies. I am ready for a big change and want to stop this yo-yoing. With age (and all the fun that comes with it) it's even more important to get ourselves healthy. We CAN do this!!!

Hey Kshort,

I am like you, starting SparkPeople again for my 3rd or 4th time. I also have excercises limitations due to an autoimmune disease. I recently had meniscus surgery on my knee and that is keeping me down as well. However, we can’t let that hold us back.

I just feel that if I don’t change now, I never will. I don’t want to be a couch potato for the rest of my life and I am heading that way. I can’t tell you how many times I have said “I have got to get this weight off”. I can’t wait until the day I can say “I took the weight off”.

So let’s get our butts in gear and do this!

Hi-I'm new to this group, but it sounded like the right place for me. I'm 68 and have been working with my oncologist's nutritionist to get my weight down. Over the past 5 months I've lost about 20 pounds. I still want to lose more. But so many things are against me, and I sometimes need something (or someone) to keep pushing me. I live alone, kids are far away, so it's me and my dog (who is also a "senior citizen"). I have a lot of illnesses (breast cancer-in remission but still on maintenance meds, lupus, osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, a TBI that affects the movements I can do because of balance issues, degenerative disk disease). I'm on 12 different meds, and the majority of them have weight gain as a side effect, especially the cancer and fibro meds. The illnesses sometimes limit how much exercise I can do.

I know I have to exercise because my weight loss is slowing down. I sometimes feel defeated before I get started. This is the 3rd time I'm back to SparkPeople to try and get back on track. I'm tracking my food, and want to start on my exercise. Sounds good, right? But really hard to get myself motivated to exercise. It is so much easier and much less painful to stay in my recliner and work on the computer. How do all of you get past this point? I know that I have to make exercise a part of my daily routine (when I was younger, I automatically did my exercises right after the kids got on the bus to go to school). I need to find a way to make myself exercise no matter how hard it seems. Any hints? Thanks for your help!
