I am using SparkCoach, it is a nominal fee for the organization it provides me.
I like the discipline of having to log in daily, the topics are varied, questions answered. I am grateful everyday for SP. My ticker shows -60, but I have been on my journey without SP, then with Spark since 2012 starting at 535.
As of today I am -199.4 (these electronic scales won't let you lean and coax out thar .6 pounds)!!!! lol. . So, I need Spark and will stay here with the Coach.
Worth every penny.

I agree with JUJU1358. I don't use the extras, I don't use a lot of what's available at Sparkpeople. But what I do use I really appreciate, and I can afford the low monthly cost for Premium. It's my way of supporting SparkPeople. And because so many cannot afford even the low cost of Premium I hope my contribution will help keep Sparkpeople going. And yeah, it's worth it just to not have the ads.

I'm not a premium member but if it the only advantage is not getting all the ads, I already have an ad blocker turned on my devise so I don't get ads anyway. What other advantages are there?

In four months since joining I've lost 35 pounds, lowered all my unhealthy cholesterol levels to the "healthy" range, dropped my A1C from 13.2 to 7.5, and feel better than I have since I was forty. I pay the monthly fee (didn't see a lifetime option) more out of gratitude than anything else. But I like some of the extra reports and never tried it with ads popping up. I realize this was an old topic post but someone else might stumble upon it.

I TOTALLY think it's worth it. I did the one-time fee for myself for a Christmas gift last year. Since I've been on SparkPeople for 13+ years, well worth it!! The limitation of ads alone is worth it to me ... but I also use Spark Coach off and on.

Coach Nicole no longer works for SparkPeople, which is why you wouldn't get a reply from her. The majority of the emails are answered by Coach Dean, myself and Coach Denise, but all are responses from someone with a degree and years of experience in health and fitness. None of them would be answered by an intern or anyone like that.

I am going to cancel my premium subscription. I feel very misled by the "Email a Spark Coach" once a week, which is why I signed up. On the page, there are photos of the spark coaches we all know, including Coach Nicole. I had a fitness question specifically for Coach Nicole, and received a generic reply that "Coach Nicole doesn't answer emails". It was signed "A spark coach". So who are the people I am paying to email...some intern at a desk somewhere? I thought I would actually be emailing the expert coaches.

I don't think it is worth it and will admit I find it a bit annoying - the ads seem to have increased incredibly since premium came out!

Premium isn't a monthly subscription. Its literally only a one time payment. I paid the one time fee a couple of years ago and it has been very worth it. The site is faster and no pop up ads. I highly recommend it.

Unless of course the one time fee was dropped as an option.

IF the one payment a year option were still available, I would do premium in a heartbeat... but I will not hassle with a monthly subscription.... just not worth it to me to add to my bookkeeping management for "a small monthly fee". I prefer to know that I have this paid for and done, and not add to my bookkeeping issues every month. It is ridiculous not to have an option to pay by the year for the premium option ~ THAT would make it premium.

I would not pay for it because I have a problem with exercise, I have blood clots in both lungs for 2 years. I have pleurisy which led to chronic pneumonia, which led to the blood clots. I have everything now still. I also have low blood pressure & tests at the hospital show slow walking for 15 minutes raises my blood pressure by 15 points because my body has a hard time getting oxygen. Oxygen level is 94% but my lungs are doing extra work to keep it at that. I am on a university list that does a health couch program for 2 months by phone & online for free for people with chronic diseases. I also have chronic kidney disease, so I qualify. A very specialized diet & exercise individual program. Hopefully I get to start next month.

I am on the summer challenge now. I have pleurisy, 3 types of anemia from Iron, folic acid, other vitamins not working, chronic pneumonia, chronic kidney disease and low blood pressure & blood clots in both lungs for 3 years..I am 55 years old. I had 7 operations recently. I had cervical cancer 6 years ago, no signs last 3 years as well.

It's ok. It gets rid of the ads, but other than that you get the same articles and advice over and over again. You can email a coach, but you can also look up the same information on Google.

I use the premium and it is worth it to me for the logging and reports nothing more..

I am with you in in bring VERY limited with physical activity ( And was ticked off all the videos only show already fit ppl doing them) The coaches response was not inspiring when I emailed them to say HEY ! How about you show people who are not perfect?

I do not use MY money to pay for it however, I use google play money. I take random surveys for them and they pay me for them form .10 to a dollar for some . So you can use premium for free kinda if you do this. Google "Google surveys" or search that in your google app store.Sign up and use that $$ to pay for premium.

I hope this is the right place to do this....i'm really curious about the premium SP! My biggest hold up is the fact that usually a coach will promote exercise and with good reason, however my level of abilities is so limited. A good day for me is being able to stand up long enough to cook instead of just grabbing something. Today, I'm going to try to tackle dishes! Lol So, that factor aside, would the premium SP be useful to someone like me? Thank you in advance!! Jody

The advertisements made logging nutrition and exercise so slow that it was 'painful' and I was getting very frustrated. I was seriously thinking of going to another application.

However, with the help of my sister (a 'techie' and the one that introduced me to Sparkpeople) there is a way to block the ads. The answer: Google Edge - Ad Block - this is blocking all the ads, sometimes up to over 25 in one session. And it is free!

it's worth it just not to have the ads-they slowed my access down so much it would take 2-3X longer just to track...
I've had great results with emailing/hearing back from the Spark Coach & the report options are worth it, too!
$5/month-yeah, it's not 'free', but it's so much more!

I purchased it with the one time fee and I love it - the ability to talk with a coach and run extra reports. I was on WW for $20/month and didn't get the level of detail that this program gives me.

Any chance that this one time payment option will be brought back?
Or maybe an annual fee?

Living outside the US either of the above options would be preferable to the monthly charge.

I am doing the two-week free trial and so far I like it. $4.99 a month is not too bad, but would love the one-time option. Did they just take that away? I like that each day has a new lesson and they have very targeted activities for you to do each day. Haven't tried contacting a Coach yet. Waiting until I have been doing it for a couple of days to maybe get some feedback on what I can be doing differently.

Yep...a one time fee of $30 for what you get here is nothing. Most sites have an annual fee. Gosh, even my credit card where they make money on every charge has a yearly fee. SP premium is a great deal.

UNTIL I STARTED NOTICING

I am a premium member here and I would assume not the only one. I most recently started noticing the cute little way SP marketing is sneaking in advertising. The start page now shows video of how to make (let's say) pizza or chocolate flour less cake using egglands best eggs.

Cute very Cute ---- NOT!

To me, it was worth it. I paid the one-time fee and was glad to do so. Spark People has more information than any other weight loss site I have ever been on.
So I was happy to give back to them for all they do to help us. I really like that I can browse through the website now and it is 'ad' free. I have also used the 'email a coach' feature once and received valuable information, along with a couple of Spark People links to get even more information about my question. I will continue to email the coaches in the future too. So far, I have only had Premium for a week and I already appreciate that each day I have the option to make a brief note on how things are going and it is saved. This way I can refer back in my history and see how well I was doing at any given time. I enjoy the videos and appreciate that they seem to all be less than 5 mins long, so it doesn't take much time out of my day if I choose to watch them. Plus there is the little-added bonus of gaining a little bit more Spark Points each day.

I feel that it is. I like the add free pages and the extra spark points that you can earn. I have not used the valuable tool of contacting the coaches yet, but when I do I feel that it will really help me. I also like the different plans that are available depending on what you need to work on. It is really helping me.

I depend on limited bandwidth, so yes, removing the ads speeds up the webpage AND the phone app. Saves me valuable time and bandwidth.

I plan to be SPARKING for the rest of my life, so I see the premium fee to be a long term modest investment in SPARKPeople.

Spark People is much more satisfying then a personal trainer or nutritionist. Even better than weight watchers, hey.

I've enjoyed the Spark Premium ever since I signed up back whenever it first became available. Some of the newer computer systems and/or browsers have better ad-popup prevention and for those people, I'm sure it's pointless to spend the money. But there was some issue with my machine that I couldn't install the Windows10, and I'm not sure what sense this made. But that's what I was told. So anyway, in my case it works great at slowing down the ads (and I do follow plenty of links etc so I'm sure SparkPeople still gets their "cut".).

I also like the new Community feed, for the most part. And in case you haven't noticed, there is a filter at the top right of that Community Feed which you can use to minimize the flow if you don't want to see all the stuff. For me, it's cool meeting people I wouldn't ever otherwise trip over, mostly because we aren't on the same teams.

Proverbs 31:17 She girds herself with strength,
And strengthens her arms.

I think it is worth the one-time fee. The ad-free experience is great, and I like Spark Coach.

Like others, I am not thrilled about the changes to the Community Feed, but it is what it is whether you have Spark Premium or not.

I used to pay a separate fee monthly for Spark Coach. To have it included in the one time fee for life was an exceptional value.

Like others, I don't like the new Community Goal Feed and I don't like that you can filter it but the filter doesn't stay set so you have to change every time. I think Premium could add a few perks , like the ability to have more customizable options on our Start page, but overall I would still say definitely worth the cost.

I loved it until they came up with the community feed that we have almost no control over. Not a good move from management.

If you make the unconditional commitment to reach your most important goals, if the strength of your decision is sufficient, you will find the way and the power to achieve your goals.

So far,so good ~I gave to myself for Christmas! It is nice to have NO ADS! ~like it was when I joined 6 yrs. ago! Also, if you have young children,it is NICE to have NO ADS ,especially when they put inappropriate stuff on that even I do not wish to see!
If you are into POINTS ~~~Plus when you get Sparkcoach ,it adds to your pts. ~25 a day x 30-31 days a month=750 points PER mo.which will help me get into the 100,000 pts.much sooner!

I think it is worth it. It has the Spark Coach program. It is geared towards giving you uplifting motivation. It encourages you to move forward with step by step guidance. You have a once a week option of e-mailing a trained professional with a question and get valuable and objective advise. The data and statistics break everything down into little bites of information you can work with. It is geared towards detail and is not just a general graph or pie chart.

I like it a lot!

I am considering giving myself the upgrade for Christmas. For those who have it, is it worth the extra cost?
