To flavor brown rice, use vegetable or chicken stock and seasonings!

I use fresh home-made chicken stock or sauce some celery, carrots and onions. It gives it a great taste. The chicken stock has no other added ingredient apart from chopped onions, no salt added.

I like to add a little bit of balsamic vinegar to my brown rice and a bit of butter or margarine.

Tomato paste -- just a little.

But ... I'm overstepping my bounds here ... learn how to cook other brown rices ... Uncle Ben's is pretty cardboard-y. It's usually as simple as 1 cup rice; 2 cups cold water. Bring to a boil, cover, lower the heat to a simmer for 40 minutes. I love medium grain brown rice.

I add chopped and sautéed onion, celery and bell peppers. Lemon pepper seasoning adds flavor. Even canned green chilies are tasty.

I use a low sodium buillion cube, dried onion flakes and some garlic powder. Add them before you cook the rice. Really simple and basic. You can use just about any flavored stock to cook the rice. Any vegies or aromatics (herbs) can also be used. If you are adventurous add some dried mushrooms, re-hydrated, of course.

I like the taste of brown rice as it is. If you want to add another flavor, you can add your favorite seasonings. You can add some lemon pepper seasonings to complement your fish. Add cumin and chili powder for a Mexican taste. A bit of butter and parsley to go with everything. Chopped veggies like onion, zucchini, peppers, and/or tomato. Add some lean meat or beans to that for a heartier side or a small meal.

Does anyone know of any ways to season brown rice? I usually have the Uncle Ben's because its easy, but any ideas on how to make it more flavorful? Also, I am making lemon pepper panko crusted fish tonight for dinner..if that helps. But any and all ideas are more than welcome :) Quick and easy would be nice.
