I did plan to cook for my Mom today, being Mother's Day but I woke up too late, because I stayed up reading last night. My Mom was already preparing lunch. Pork Chops & spicy Nonya style steamed fish today. My Mom also made cucumber pickles as well as stir-fried bitter gourd. I didn't have any rice for lunch. The cucumber pickles were delicious!
Around teatime, I made some hash browns! I got the recipe from youtube from Jenny Can Cook. I followed the recipe but I didn't leave it in the pan heating for as long as she recommended because I guess I don't have to same stove as her. She said leave it for 15 minutes to cook but I only left it for 10 minutes on each side and, it was done! My Mom loved it! She ate quite a lot of it! I had to clean up after my cooking though. But it's ok, it's Mother's Day after all! ;-)

My kiddo lives in a different state, and works Sundays, so I’ll reach out Saturday for a phone call. My mom has been gone two years, leaving my stepmom. I’ll call her on Saturday, too as her daughters will call Sunday, and caring for my dying father is taking all her energy.
I think I’ll treat myself to a take away dinner this weekend.
Wake up every day knowing you make the decision to begin your journey anew.
This choice in this moment defines now. What is your now?
Our local daughter gave me a present when we took them a special dinner while her husband was home, too. He's a critical care neurologist at a large hospital and has long hours and many sick patients. So, we did visit with the whole family. They stayed on their porch and we stayed on the sidewalk. Their youngest of three kids FaceTimes me almost every day and we talk, play games and such for at least an hour. She suggested we all get together online on Mother's Day when I open my present. That would be fun. Our son's family will likely also Skype or something on Sunday. I got ingredients to make us a strawberry cheesecake to celebrate. yum.

My gift arrived in the mail today, it's a slicer set, allowing you to make all kinds of cuts, even criss cut fries! Not crazy about the packaging though, they could have packaged it better. I had to find a nice paper bag and a ribbon so it won't look so woebegone!
As for the Day itself, maybe I'll cook a pasta meal for my Mom. I have some whole grain pasta.
