-POLEDANCEGIRL-,

What type of meal prep services would you be offering to a potential client ?

Are you thinking of a service like Blue Apron, Hello Fresh or Home Chef where your company would chop, prep all the meal ingredients and your client just follows the instructions to cook ?

Or were you thinking of teaching a basic cooking class at a local adult education center ?

When someone says meal prep to me, I think going to the grocery store to buy ingredients, chopping, slicing, boning, preparing the ingredients and then cooking the ingredients.

And if you are interested in starting a business that prepares meals for clients, look into KETO. Just based on the posts in the nutrition forum, KETO has become an extremely popular nutrition plan. If you were to propose a meal prep service supplying KETO friendly meals to your clients, you could make a profit.

My question is how is meal prep different from following a recipe or learning to cook ? That's something many Americans have forgotten how to do i.e. learn how to cook.

I don't know that you would be able to have a financially profitable business teaching people to LEARN how to meal prep. A lot who would do that are more inclined to buy the meal kits with the instructions for the various meals, and have the food delivered to their door OR buy the ready made meals delivered to their door.

That was a thing around here about ten years ago and all of them folded relatively quickly. There are a few services that meal prep for you that are still around, but anyone with the cash to pay seems to want full service.

Check your extension office or local library to see if they already offer a similar program. You can usually find something on the calendar, but it is not so popular they are adding classes to keep up with demand.

As a random add on to other things it could work (grocery stores and restaurants and other businesses already do this successfully), but it seems to be a tough row to hoe on its own.

With so many cooking shows, I can't imagine 'meal prep' would sustain a business. But 'Healthy Cooking' classes would be a different story. Lots of people enjoy watching and participating in those type of classes. We had a Chef Central store in my area that would sponsor cooking sessions and they were always packed.

Meal prep to me is buying what you need and preparing it to be used in recipes.... getting everything ready to be cooked.

What will you be teaching? shopping, chopping, other?

Thinking of opening a business to teach others to meal prep. Is this a service you would be interested in and pay for if it was available in your area? (not soliciting customers, just getting a feel for if it would be something of interest)
