It would be really nice for you to make a picnic-type lunch to share with your Boss on occasion.

You have a wonderful boss.

In the US you're generally on your own for lunch and snacks.

you have been blessed with a boss who picks you up from the station, often treats you to lunch , and is flexible with your work schedule due to your medical issues.
Be grateful that you are lucky to know such a person.

I was at the mall today and saw her favorite salad dressing. I bought the biggest bottle I could find. Won't she be pleased! I also bought some oreos to share with her.

My boss also happens to be a close friend. That's why she is so kind to me. We've known each other for a long time. She used to be my neighbor. She knows my health situation and is very kind in helping me out.

The factory is very far from the train station. She happens to live near the station. Since she has to drive to the factory anyway, she will pick me up from the train station.

On my part I have to wake up at 6am to catch 2 trains. She normally picks me up a little after 8am.

Think about all the people out there who have never had their boss get them lunch. It is not an obligation of hers so be grateful that she does so at times. I wouldn’t expect to go out to eat with my boss and her mother. Family time is important.

It strikes me that your complaint is mainly about being left behind/ left out, as opposed to being hungry.

How long have you had this job? There is generally no expectation (in America) that a boss will provide lunch every day. They may take you to lunch when you first start, as a welcoming gesture. However, unless your boss specifically promised to take you to lunch today, and then changed plans at the last minute, I don't understand the complaint.

There is similarly no expectation that a boss will provide transportation to and from work or to and from anywhere else such as a restaurant. If you took the job knowing that there was no onsite canteen and no food within walking distance, you have to make appropriate provisions to feed yourself on a daily basis. What if your boss had been out sick, or had an emergency?

"The company doesn't have a canteen. And the nearest shops are within driving distance, but not walking distance. So unless she brings me takeaway or brings me along, I can't get lunch, unless I brown bag from home."

I bring my own lunch every day even though there are plenty of restaurants or fast food chains within a 5-10 minute walk. Why I do bring my own lunch ? To save money. If I were to buy lunch every day, that would cost me $8-$12 US a day or about $50-$60 per week. Eating out is way too expensive where I live. It just makes more sense to bring my own lunch and snacks.

Why not do that ? Bring your own lunch, brown bag it. Even though your boss makes more money than you, she is not obligated to buy you lunch or take away. She does it out of kindness and generosity.

I think some fancy hair serum is a great idea for a gift. Why not create a gift basket full of hair products for her. You could include shampoo, conditioner, the hair serum, some hair ties... That would be a wonderful gift.

Since there aren't many shops nearby, then you probably should be bringing your lunch daily, even if it isn't culturally done. It really isn't your boss' responsibility to feed you. Sounds like you have some nice ideas for gifts for her.

In Malaysia, bringing your lunch with you is not often done because of the wide availability of freshly cooked, economical, tasty food easily available.

Does it occur to you that perhaps your Boss wants some FAMILY time with her mother, that doesn't include other people??? I would suggest that she insisting you stay to finish your work was more a subtle hint.

It really sounds like you need to learn to be happy in your OWN company without relying on others to fulfill something in your life.

Have you thought about what you're going to give your boss as a gift for Christmas ?

As I recall, she's bought you lunch, including take away, many times since you've been working for her.

Perhaps you could offer to take her out for a nice lunch or dinner as a present. That would be a nice gesture to show her how much you appreciate what she does for you.

When we cannot change what happened, sometimes we just need to change how we look at it. You have your work finished, lovely alone time, and a tasty takeout. Sounds pretty good if you look at it from that angle!

:::sigh:::
Your boss is under no obligation to include you in a family lunch.
Your boss was kind enough to bring back something for you.
Your boss pays you to do work, not to horn in on her lunches.

You seriously look for ways to be offended when there are none....

They have both said my thoughts exactly!!
I would add... you might also start looking at the extra time alone as a gift...go for a short, peaceful walk!!

You're boss isn't paying you to take you out for a lunch; she is paying you to work. It was more than generous of her to kindly offer to bring you some takeaway. And she maybe wanted to spend some time with her mom.

My bosses never took me out to lunch. Well the whole office would have a Christmas party. Does that count?

At least she offered to bring you takeaway. My bosses don't do that unless I give them money.

She may have wanted to have a private chat with her mom?

Sigh! I got left behind again! My boss went out to lunch with her Mom but she insisted I stay behind to finish my work. She said she will get me takeaway.

Well, here I am with all my work done and it's not even 2pm. I did tell her that I was confident in finishing the work in time but she still insisted I stay behind!

Sigh!
