Great article.... and their statements make sense of the relationship with LOW Gluten and higher rates of T2Diabetes.

I am fortunately not a person who is affected by gluten, so have never had any reason to go "low gluten". I'll keep on eating my 5 Grain cereal and my Zoom whole wheat cereal for breakfast!

Unless you have a diagnosis of gluten issues, gluten is not the enemy.

I guess I should have titled it, "Should I Invent The Gluten Diet"? It was intended as a kind of tongue in cheek post after I watched one of the Daily Spark videos where they interviewed a bunch of people in an LA park who were exercising and were obviously into health and fitness. First, they asked if they did a gluten-free diet and if they said yes, they asked what gluten was. I think there were five and none of them had had a clue.

I post a lot of links to studies that contradict other studies on subjects that I think will interest Spark readers. Sometimes I get no response and sometimes the original post gets forgotten and the thread runs away in another direction, but in any case, I think it's amusing that even the scientists and medicos that guide our lives can't agree or sometimes even make up their minds about what's healthy and what's not.

The only "diet" I adhere to is SparkPeople and at this point, it has become a second nature way of doing things rather than any kind of "diet". Sorry I wasn't more exact in my communication.

Should you Start "The Gluten Diet"?

I would say you should look for a diet that best suits your medical needs, gives you plenty of nutrition, and most of all, one that you can live with for the long run. Don't fall for the latest diet trend. The answer to losing weight is developing healthy habits that will become your norm.

personally...I find limiting starch carbs from processed foods and choosing oatmeal, beans, sweet potatoes, brown rice...allows me to satisy my starch cravings with smaller portions and for longer periods. I think a lot of that has to do with better nutrition, more fiber, and low glycemic numbers
