I often experience middle of the night "insomnia" which is related to some muscle/joint pain with arthritis, etc. So I will sleep for 2-3 hours, then up for an hour or more, then sleep for 3-5 hrs. If I go for a walk about --yep outside at 2am (!)-- then I sleep very soundly. Plus side: the stars are often lovely and its so quiet...!! Alternatively, I will do some light exercise to stretch and use the muscles and joints. Fortunately, I'm retired, so that alarm clock doesn't have to ring me up at 0600am often....
I was so happy when I recently read that our sleep cycle is 1.5hrs. That knowledge got rid of some of the stress from insomnia. I usually feel pretty good if I get 4 to 5 cycles.... patti
