One thing I try to focus on is to stock snacks that double as hurricane supplies. So dry or dehydrated fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, and packets of tuna are all things that I work into my normal diet, but can be better options for when there isn't any power. If you live in an area where hurricanes hit, you have to have a basic stash that you just top up once it's heading towards you. Do try and search out shelf stable options that aren't junk and start keeping some of them on hand. Unless you plan on moving you will be hit again and lose power, so it's not like your planning will go to waste.
