"Reflecting on this, I came to this conclusion, they should have allocated more to their budgets to make the events a success. As it is, most of the students and lecturers who turned up were left disappointed."

My dh is a teacher who helps set up and run some events for students sometimes. It is challenging to offer a free event and make it attractive enough to get people there but not so attractive that it goes beyond the capacity of the budget (out of the teacher's pocket not school funded usually) or room. One time they accidentally showed a too popular movie and did not have enough space for everyone who turned up. So they show older or less popular movies and get less people. Clubs here generally have public events to raise funds or get new members. The mistake is probably not saying free food for the first 20 people only and charging a small fee for anything beyond that or serving something less perishable like popcorn that you can cook on demand and keep the unpopped for future events.
Free things are generally always first come first served until supplies run out. That is the way it goes.

If someone was mukbanging cartons of cigarettes. Or cases of beer. Those would be flagged and taken down. Because it's food though. They stay up.

Both are equally unhealthy.

I watched one of Peggy Neo's YOUTUBE videos. Saw her eat about 10,000 calories worth of KFC fried chicken. She doesn't just eat the fried chicken. She eats entire meals, fried chicken, curly fries, mashed potatoes, etc. It takes her about 40-45 minutes to eat all the food. And if you watch the whole thing, she's pretty sick to her stomach at the end.

I wouldn't be surprized if many of these people participating in Muk Bang did purge (throw up) after the meal. If they don't, they must be incredibly sick until their body has digested it all. I did see the vegan muk bangs who ate massive amounts of fruit or pizza with no cheese.

Is it healthy ? Nope. As Mandie and others mentioned, some time in the future there will be health consequences.

Does KFC or Texas Chicken really need this kind of advertising ? That's what concerns me. You'd think they'd be discouraging this type of behavior. They almost seem to be encouraging it. sad.

Another you tube person makes commentary videos and calculates the calories. Some of these folks consume up to 10,000 calories in one sitting.

You have the "healthy" looking people who do it.
You have some of the people over in the states who are overweight.

Even though some people "look healthy" You can be rest assured that the thin ones have insides that look just like the insides of the overweight ones.

They are headed for some type of medical distress.

The reason I watch these things. As a former person who binged and purged. They make me lose the desire to do so. (I used laxatives)

Like another member stated. She probably sticks her finger down her throat and throws it all up. Maybe that's all she eats all week? Or exercises eight hours a day?

No matter the case. That's not dedication. That's not healthy.

I can't stand the noises that are made. You know that they grunt and groan and moan, exaggerated lip smacking. ::Well this is embarrassing to say:: People get ummm "turned on" by that. Yup it's a fetish thing.

That type of eating is not dedication. It is actually gross and unhealthy, especially if she purges after.

There's this youtuber, Peggie Neo from Singapore that eats massive amount of junk food like KFC and Mcdonalds. She will eat like 6 burgers or a bucket of fried chicken with sides, drinks and desserts! And she won't just eat one dessert but 2 or 3! Same with the sides!

She even has a mike stationed where it will record all the eating sounds!

She films twice a week! I wonder how she keeps slim?! What dedication!

The way I found them some of the vegan fruitarians were doing them. Eating massive amounts of fruit.

Then you tube sent me down the rabbit hole of other you tube people who do muk bangs. Who that guy with all his donuts! They maybe thin now, but one day their body will exclaim! I give up

Usually the American people who do them are quite overweight. Or well on the way to it.

Just think! People make money with eating channels. Blows my mind

when it comes to food, you need a headcount before time to know how much to prepare. They should have sold tickets before the event. And when people hear 'free food', most will pile up their plates as if it's their last meal.

In my youth I worked for a company that owned several restaurants and I went to the New York Food Expo. Now that was an experience.

I had to look up Muk bangs. Now, full disclosure, I do find the Nathan's 4th of July Hot Dog eating contest fascinating. I am amazed that a person can eat 60+ hot dogs in one sitting.

Muk bangs are no different. You watch some Korean kid (both male and females participate) eat mass quantities of food. Examples.

Not sure how long this has been going on, but there are tons of videos uploaded to YOUTUBE.

I'm going to take a guess that the reason EOWYN may find them interesting is because these kids aren't fat. They seem to have the ability to eat all that food and not gain weight.

EOWYN, why do you watch the Muk Bangs ?

Those can be pointless

I wonder if a lot of the Students showed up for the free food because they were having to live on a shoestring? Some countries have to pay a lot for Uni fees, and have to pay accommodation etc. on top of that. I could see a lot of students doing that in NZ.

that is sad, it should be about the club but it is also sad that there are so many without something to eat.

How sad that students showed up for the food, and not for what the club had to offer. Such greedy people!

I go for the learning experience, not the food. I eat before I go to events.

EOWYN,

If you and the other students were going for the free food (and not to learn about the club), no one should have been surprized that the food ran out. The club may have only expected a handful of students.

The club probably didn't have the money to be able to supply food for 40+ students. Same with the International Students night. Too many students came by looking for free food instead of staying to enjoy whatever activities were prepared. The events weren't about the food. The food was just to entice people to show up.

If you were disappointed because the food ran out, then you weren't there to learn about the club or enjoy International Student's night.

You (and the other students) just wanted the free food.

I was watching mukbang (korean for eating show) vids on youtube, he was eating sushi. It reminded me of my uni days.

First there was a Malaysian students' club meeting with promise of free food. However the food was only enough for 20 students but about 400 turned up! I was really disappointed and so were most of the other students who turned up but didn't get a single bite to eat.

Then there was the International students night with promise of a varied buffet. Again way too little food, this time 2,000 to 4,000 ppl turned up!

Reflecting on this, I came to this conclusion, they should have allocated more to their budgets to make the events a success. As it is, most of the students and lecturers who turned up were left disappointed.
