I admire people who base their choices and actions on what will make themselves proud, without a thought about whether anyone else is watching / judging. These are the people who take full responsibility for their choices, and who understand that respect - especially self-respect - is earned and not given.
I admire people who base their opinions on data and not emotions, and so can happily change their minds when new data is available --- and who actively seek out new data and contradictory opinions to keep learning and growing.
I admire people who place appearances and "things" extremely low on their priority list --- both in their own lives and in how they judge others.
I admire people who spend time and effort in thinking through their values and ethics, regularly assess those values, and happily LIVE their values --- and who can share their opinions / values without expecting others to follow them.
I especially admire people who actively seek out the joy in life - and who find even more joy in sharing that with others.
Sir Terry Pratchett:
"Science is not about building a body of known 'facts'. It is a method for asking awkward questions and subjecting them to a reality-check, thus avoiding the human tendency to believe whatever makes us feel good."
