For some reason I was always afraid to do this for some reason or worried it would be weird but I did go to a movie alone for the very first time this past January, at age 50! It wasn't weird at all and look forward to doing it again actually. I don't always have someone to go with me and my husband and I have very different taste in shows most of the time.
I have been single a long time, and while it is great to share such events, I will not limit myself simply because I don't have someone to go with me. It was kind of uncomfortable and intimidating at first, but only if you worry about what others think!! If you do that, you give them power over you and why do that? They have no idea why you are there alone, and it's none of their business anyway! These days it's easier because you can occupy yourself with your cell phone. We didn't have that when I started doing this. I just brought a book and read till they dimmed the lights!
Try it with the movies first, then you will be more apt to try other things solo as well. When I was just starting out as a nurse, I used to feel intimidated going to lunch alone, but I didn't know folks then. The cafeteria was busy and I hated to sit alone. I remember pausing outside the doorway to tell myself "You have as much right to be here as anyone else in there!" and then I'd go in! It seems silly, but it was what I needed to bank my insecurities. I've even gone whitewater rafting by myself - didn't know a soul, but I didn't want to miss out on the opportunity! Thankfully, a lady kept me from toppling out of the boat in a rapid!! LOL!!
Make it a goal and as the saying goes..."just do it!"

35 yrs ago-No Way. After 20 years of kids, house full of pets, 10 years happily married and loads of cleaning and wonderful chaos-HECK YEAH. Sneak out once a year or so for a chick flick if I can lol. Love hubby but sometimes have to try for an hour or two of me time.
