You want just the right amount, not too much or too little. Think of the gas tank in your car, too little gas and you can't get where you need to go, too much gas it spills out of the tank. More is not always better. Beef and broccoli might both be good for you, but neither of them are so good that they can completely meet all of your nutritional needs.

Sex, from the physical contact and happy memories side of things, is something that can bring your serotonin levels up. If you are already sated, you're a little less likely to want or need something. So lower levels of serotonin are associated with higher sexual arousal because having sex increases your levels of serotonin, thus fixing the issue. If your levels of serotonin are already high you don't need the extra boost from sex, thus decreasing your interest in it. Please forgive the world's least scientific explanation from someone who has not read enough studies on the subject.

If you are truly concerned, you might want to speak with your doctor.

I think your answer will lie within the definitions of "low level" and "high Level".... and what the author is interpreting along with that. Do they mean chronic low levels...where every time a research person was tested they were far below normal levels... or do they just mean a one time reading being high or low....?? Very different situations. One would have to dig into the actual research articles (assuming there are some!) that specify how many subjects, test parameters, what levels they were talking about, etc....

The good news is that 95% of the population is likely within a normal the two outcomes aren't going to affect very many people!

reading an article on serotonin
if low levels of serotonin brings about depression
yet, increased levels of serotonin causes diminished sexual arousal, how is that possible????
if i am not aroused, i get depressed.
do i want high levels or low levels?
does it matter because one is going to make me sad the other happy but am i really going to be happy??
