This year, I gave up eating any product that contains palm or soybean oil as an ingredient.

That means no more Cadbury Eggs or Russell Stover Marshmallow eggs for me. They are made with palm oil.

What Easter treat can I eat ? Passover Matzo ! LOLLL

Most of them are sugared and/or starchy, which I must be very careful with as a diabetic. So...I really avoid them. I try to find other things I like about holidays that aren't food related and concentrate on those things.

We don't normally buy any Easter candy before the holiday (kids are grown and we have no one to make Easter baskets for). There's a Russell Stover candy outlet on the other side of town, so if it's convenient we might stop there after the holiday and get some stuff that's marked down-- like 75% off. As others have noted, most of it is the same sort of thing you can get any old time of year, just molded / packaged differently for Easter. I used to like Cadbury caramel eggs, but now they just seem way too sweet.

Easter is coming soon! But first, Lent!

For Lent, I aim to give up fast food. And I will get serious in doing my devotions!

In keeping with that, this year, I won't be buying any Easter chocolate! They are too sweet anyway.........

I usually do an Easter basket for mom & sis, so I will buy their favorites (Almond Joy for mom, Reese's for sis)

I just finished a packet of Galaxy mini caramel eggs. 7 little caramel eggs to be exact. They are sooooo cute!!! And being small the perfect little portion size.

I have to be content with 1 packet. I've had my Easter treat! That has satisfied my inner chocolate monster!! LOL! I won't buy anymore!

Cadbury Cream Eggs aren't available any other time of year. Or the Caramel Eggs.

I eat my fair share of those. Then I am foundered on them until next year.

We buy candy to put in the Easter eggs to hide at church. That is regular candy that you can get any other time of year. The kids in my church are very picky. I don't think they would enjoy the super gooey sweetness of a Cadbury Cream Egg.

Easter is not a candy holiday - it is a holiday that has candy.

I wont pay full price. I wait for the 50% off sale. Then I'll occasionally buy a small bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs and a package of peeps. I love nuking peeps !

Last year, I bought a bag of Dove coconut cream chocolates. Those were wonderful. I looked this year and no one (CVS, Walgreens or supermarket) have them. boo.

URBANREDNECK is right. Most of the chocolate that's being sold for Easter is no different than the stuff that's sold for other holidays. Except for Mother's Day in May, this is the last "chocolate" holiday until Halloween.

There is one kind of Easter chocolate that does strike me as sacrilegious and that's the chocolate I've seen shaped as a cross. That just seems wrong to me. that's my own personal opinion.

I'm non-religious, so to me it just looks like the "same old - same old" mass produced candy re-packaged to be marketed for the "season". Other than the wrapper, it's the same stuff available for Christmas / Hanukkah, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Independence Day (of whatever country), Labour Day, Hallowe'en, or.... I strongly suspect that what is on the shelves now isn't necessarily fresh, since they normally don't sell all of the specially packaged items (even with the after-season sale), and I kind of doubt that they take the loss for trashing it.

My personal tastes have changed over time, and I honestly now really dislike the taste and texture and smell of the mass produced "chocolate", so I indulge in good quality dark chocolate that doesn't change packaging for marketing purposes throughout the year.

If you haven't had a commercial candy bar or seasonal "treat" for quite some time, and you do choose to indulge in something, then I suggest that you take your time with it --- open the package, really inhale the scent, take small bites, and let them melt on your tongue so that you can really appreciate the flavour and texture... Oh - and don't be surprised if you discover that YOUR tastebuds have changed, too, and you find the "treat" to be really quite underwhelming.

Sir Terry Pratchett: "Science is not about building a body of known 'facts'. It is a method for asking awkward questions and subjecting them to a reality-check, thus avoiding the human tendency to believe whatever makes us feel good."

"The Inuit Paradox" ( discovermagazine.com/2004/oct/inuit-
paradox
