I have to be careful of where my eggs are coming from... evidently many of the cheaper eggs, the mama hens were eating a soy-based chicken feed. That soy transfers to my system and I have the same familiar "kicked in the gut" feeling that I get when I eat more obvious sources of soy (tofu, soymilk, etc.)...

Right now (while under direct doctors orders prior to another A1C test): No bread, no rice, corn, or potatoes, no complex carbs, no added sugar. Hey...it's not fun but it's working!

It's looking like I may have to add donuts to my list. I had a donut yesterday at work. took my time eating it. didn't inhale it like a Hoover. paced myself so that I didn't end up in a sugar induced coma at my desk. LOL.

I did end up with a slight tummy ache by the end of the day. And I do think it's because of the oil. I've noticed that I can no longer tolerate fried foods. They upset my stomach.

oh well...

I really can't do very rich/decadent restaurant desserts any more. If I do a "regular" dessert at all (like not fro-yo or something "lighter") it has to be something like a straightforward ice cream, pie, or chocolate mousse - and even those I have to share with someone.

But I'm more likely to have a sorbet or fruit for dessert, if eating out - or just a coffee, especially if no one is looking to share. Eating out is kind of a novelty now, so just the meal itself is enough of an indulgence - dessert is over the top.

Starting Weight: 268 lbs. (November 2010)
Quasi-Maintenance: 165 lbs. (June 2011)
Goal Weight: 150 lbs. (reached December 8, 2011)

Size 22W to Size 4

Currently maintaining within 5 lbs. (+ or -) of goal. I weigh daily, but also use a tape measure and the fit of my clothes to guage how well I'm doing.

I looked up Wegmans Bran Flakes 5 g sugar (.75 cup)
I looked up Raisin Bran (Post) and it was 25g (1 cup)
I almost wonder if they add even more sugar under the assumption that the customer wants a sweet cereal anyway.

I still think food manufacturers intentionally add lots of sugar to everything because it's a cheap ingredient and it encourages people to crave more.

yes, my husband still adds extra sugar.

I'm the opposite. I have been known to sift sugar out of instant oatmeal ( usually I get the handmade kind more ). Also taking a bunch of the extra sauce off sandwiches.

However maybe this thread is also about foods some can't tolerate because of health or how their body deals with it.

Sheryl,

Speaking of foods I consider way too sweet now, Raisin Bran. As a kid, it wasn't sweet enough. So I would dump teaspoons full of sugar on top of it. Not too long ago, I had a small bowl at a hotel for breakfast. I could not believe how sweet it was !!

I read the nutrition label and it listed 19-20 grams of sugar. That's five teaspoons of sugar per serving.

For me it is like Big Macs, fries, and of course a large diet coke.
But, wait don't forget that monster pizza at this pizza place around the corner, OMG! It is to die for! Oh how I miss that.

Okay so here is my problem, every time I turn on the TV there is that huge Big Mac and those golden fries with that diet pop pouring into that cup with all that ice on the top, I can't take it anymore......I am almost ready to jump in my car and go grab me one.......

High Potassium foods, all foods have Potassium even though where I live in Canada it is not required to be labelled on food products.
The USDA has the best food data base site for nutrients, you can add calories on the same list, their Potassium list is 232 pages, some do not apply, baby food etc.,printed out 56 pages, 40 left to do, added calories to the list, so I can compare both for the best combination & printed in order of food groups for shopping easier, so difficult diet from now on with big list at every shop. I will do most of the list at home & take it with me in case something else in food I would like to buy on sale. There is about 24 items on each page.
New laws on everything related to foods & imported foods to help consumers in Canada will be put in place soon, all details have been decided on, government takes time to do things.

I have pleurisy, 3 types of anemia from Iron, folic acid, other vitamins not working, chronic pneumonia, pleurisy, chronic kidney disease, a partially collapsed lung, low blood pressure & blood clots in both lungs for 3 years..I am 55 years old. I had cervical cancer 6 years ago, no signs last 4 years as well.I am on P.S.T. time zone.

I have prescription medicine so I'm fine now to eat this: Hamburgers and Hotdogs!
But before, when I had no medicine,
these foods would trigger my Gout big time.
But, even with the medicine, I'm going to stop eating these.

SUGAR! and high carb foods. I actually added fats to my diet this time around because I read a book from a doctor that said low carb and add fats helps prevent diabetes.

I can't seem to edit my previous post so I'll add here: I also discovered that eating oatmeal rlon a regular basis makes me gain weight very quickly. Our bodies truly are fascinating!

I learned this year that conventional (cow) dairy gives me sinus congestion. I haven't experimented enough yet to know if goat, sheep, or other A2 day is OK for me.
Farro also makes me congested, but brown rice and sorghum seem to be OK.
I'm also more sensitive to overly salty and overly sweet restaurant and prepared foods than I used to be. Over the last 15 years, my diet has evolved toward fewer processed foods, but I still enjoy my diet soda a couple times a week.

I learned the hard way that losing weight increases one's risk of getting gall bladder stones. If fried food upsets your stomach that may be a good time to check with your health care provider.

For me it's the Fiber One snack products, any of them, they give me headaches and stomach pain.

I have cut sodium intake, no complex carbs, no diet sodas, no fruit other than berries, and definitely no sugars! It's been 2 weeks and I have one more week before my diabetes doctor visit. I have logged all meals and will bring in my glucose monitor. She will pat me on the back because I have lowered my glucose levels, belly went down, and I have lost 7 pounds and counting!

Definitely my tastes and tolerance have changed a lot. I now use salt sparingly for health reasons so some foods now taste too salty for me, and there are even some restaurants that I won't go to because the chefs are heavy handed that way. Fried foods don't agree with me either. Too heavy. I've given up diet soda which I used to drink all the time. The idea of drinking one now just isn't appealing. Like others, I find eating candy or cakes to be too sweet now.

Interesting & thought provoking topic. Yes, my stomach has grown more sensitive over the years. There are certain snack foods I no longer eat...corn curls & corn chips, but I've noticed that any snack foods that contain beans really agrees with me--like Beanitos.

Fast food is definitely out for me. It now has a very definite, and swift reaction from my body if I indulge.

I still eat things like hamburgers, fries, etc. but done at home, with my low fat style of cooking, using my oven, or air fryer, I don’t get gastrointestinal distress like I do if I eat the restaurant versions,

Funny thing is, I don’t really miss it. It has been months since I ate out at a fast food restaurant. I do dine out, but no longer at fast food places.

Being positive is a choice so remember, “Every day is not good, but there is something good in every day." Each morning seek the positive and you will have a good day. If you believe it you CAN achieve it. Always choose to believe it.
